During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Satan. His portrayal generic for the horror genre and he is far to generic compared to other portrayals of Satan or Satanic Archetype characters - Tirek was less generic than him.
The link to the Jack Welker photo in Image Links is broken. I have a replacement here
.
New proposal, from Stitches (2001).
Who's the candidate?
Mrs. Albright, a demonic sorceress who turns people's desires against them.
What does she do?
We first see Albright making a skin suit. In her lair, we see many corpses hanging from the ceiling and walls.
When Albright checks into the bed and breakfast she's staying in, she opens her scrapbook, which is filled with paper dolls that she traps the souls of her victims in. We know they're conscious because they scream when their pages are opened.
She starts her business at the bed and breakfast by enticing Reynolds, a Seeker Archetype obsessed with finding out if the supernatural exists. She removes her skin suit to do so. Then she removes his skin, making him crawl to her For the Evulz.
Albright takes the form of Ms. Lester and tells Mr. Delaney to go to Lester's room so they can have sex. Delaney goes in and starts trying to make out with the real Ms. Lester, who confuses this for an intentional Attempted Rape and shoots him. Alright heals Delaney, then takes his skin.
Albright takes the form of Mrs. Delaney and seduces Ms. Lester into helping her clean up Mr. Delaney's blood. She then takes Lester's skin.
Albright asks Ms. Grove for advice on money, and takes her skin after letting her manage her financial matters.
Having taken the form of Mr. Delaney in order to get Mrs. Delaney to steal Ms. Grove's money, Albright confronts her in Grove's form and threatens to have both her and her husband arrested. Delaney responds to this by slitting her throat. It does no good, of course, and Albright takes her skin too.
After Sam and Kathy catch on to Albright's scheme, she has the dolls of her previous victims attack and torture Kathy into seemingly giving up her soul. This causes Sam to give up his own soul to save her. However, Kathy had already joined forces with Albright. Of course, that was a ruse on Albright's part. Kathy and Gray both have their skins taken, and Gray is made into Albright's impish servant. Albright leaves, having claimed all her victims, and mentions to herself that her final goal is making it so that "all is silent."
Heinousness?
As the Big Bad, she sets it.
Mitigating factors?
Nope. She's a cruel, manipulative demon who's doing all this to win a bet with the Devil. There's no indication she lacks moral agency, either.
Verdict?
I think she's a pretty easy
.
@Hodor: Oh God, that bear. X___X ![]()

And
Mrs. Albright. From what it sounds like she's Faux Affably Evil, so I suppose she has enough of a personality.
Faux Affably Evil is the best phrase to describe her, yes, alongside Manipulative Bastard.
@Demon Duck Of Doom: Hey, I have to ask: is your name based on the prehistoric Bullockornis, which was nicknamed the 'demon duck of doom'?
Why so serious? So, just a fun little question: who are CompleteMonsters you can think of with depth and complexity to them that are often at odds with the trope? The two I think of are Mana Ouma and my own proposal, King Kans.
Why so serious?
It's not, but I liked it anyways. I have gotten a character from exactly one genuinely good movie voted up.

Honestly, he sounds like a generic slasher bad guy and I expect way, way more from The Devil
I don't like that addition to the Slavers. What does the last sentence add to it?
