During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

to The General, Satan, Gordon, Lord Hawk, Sal-Soo, Richard Mann, and Maxwell Black.
If so, I'll request that he be cut at the same time I submit these
(in about 3 or so hours).
That's correct. Maxwell didn't kill his wife out of moral standards, he killed her because he didn't want her 'damaging' his planned plaything and because Sandy was old enough to be a replacement.
Just a note though...I answered this in my original effortpost. Why was that ignored?

Yes, many happy returns on your birthday Very Melon, my favorite Rey fan!
Happy b-day VM!
Lighty, (and speaking of ignored stuff
), what Largo said as to my question about the Judge.
solidified.
Christopher Lee also died not too long ago, but amazingly, I don't think any of his characters are CMs, despite him often playing villains.

First of all, Happy Birthday, Very Melon.
Next, I myself have a candidate from a crime novel. Now, I'm sure a few of you remember The Watt Lake Killer from A Dark Lure and how I said he was the single most monstrous villain I've yet to propose. Well, I do believe he's now been pushed down to the Number 2 spot.....
SPOILERS FROM THE CRIME NOVEL CREATURES OF APPETITE!
Who is he?
"The Iceman", AKA Jeff Gilday, is the main antagonist of the crime novel, Creatures of Appetite.
Growing up, Gilday had a crush on a girl named Barb. However, Barb ended up becoming Gilday's best friend's girlfriend, enraging Gilday, as hw belived his "best friend," Gerry, was an oaf and that she should have chose Gilday.
After returning from the Iraq war, during which Gildayn took great pleasure in killing any Iraq citizens he could get in his crosshairs, he learns Barb has married and has a daughter, then learns that she's been having an affair with her current husband, Chuck, with Gerry.
This tears it, as Gilday flies into a rage, not that she cheated on her husband, but that she didn't do it with him.
What has he done?
Ok...just saying, anyone who has....issues....with children being injured, be warned.
Gilday decided to get revenge on Barb and Gerry by targeting Barb's daughter, Darcy, a seven year old girl, who Gilday is fairly certain is actually Gerry's biological daughter, not Barb's current husband.
However, Gilday realised that he couldn't just kill Darcy, as that would make it easier to incriminate himself. So, Gilday, being the sick psycho he is, decides to make her look like just one of many victims.
Starting a few states over, Gilday started kidnapping little girls between the ages of 5-12 and murdering them.
Gilday would often kidnap the children after one of the family members, whom Gilday would taze into unconsciousness, had seen him, because he loved the attention it gave him, letting everyone know it was the Child Killer dubbed, "The Iceman."
For 9 of his victims, The Iceman left a body part of the poor kids in the middle of a church, school, or playground a few days after the kidnapping. Why? Because he wanted to specifically make sure a child found the body part because he thought it was funny.
When new detectives Kane and Thorne show up in Gilday's hometown, Gilday immediately takes a "liking" to Kane, flirting with her often in his public persona, a police officer.
After helping Kane and Thorne apprehend a copycat killer, Gilday murders his latest victim through asphyxiation, leaving her whole body, along with a riddle, for the cops to find, before opening fire on a few officers.
Having murdered 20 children, Gilday finally kidnaps Darcy.
The absolutely horrifying truth is then revealed: Gilday doesn't just kill the little girls. He eats them. Yes, you read it right, Gilday kidnaps, sadistically murders, then eats little girls (I'm hoping in that order).
Gilday then goes to a man's house, leaves body parts of his kills in his house, holds the poor schmuck at gun point and forces him to eat a plate of....you can guess, then blows his brains out, effectively framing him and making it look like he killed himself after his latest kills.
Gilday then sets his master plan in order: Kidnap Barb and force her to watch as he kills and eats her daughter.
However, Gilday changes his tune when he asks Kane out on a date only minutes after Gerry asked her. Kane accepts Gerry's, noting it's solely because he asked first.
Gilday snaps, follows them to Gerry's home, murders Gerry, then kinda-sort of-molests Kane, who thinks he's Gerry due to crummy lighting.
Gilday then kidnaps her and brings to a local school where he's holding Darcy. He sadistically taunts them both about what's coming, planning to murder and eat Darcy, then do the same to Kane, all while stating she brought it on herself for going out with Gerry rather than him.
Kane's partner Thorne shows up with an officer, and Gilday, pretending to be looking for Kane as well, gets close to the officer, then buries a fireman's axe in the guy's spine.
Having a Villainous Breakdown when Kane escapes, Gilday begins screaming how he's going to chop off pieces of her body then force her to eat them.
Making one last attempt to murder Kane, Darcy, and Thorne, Gilday is killed when Kane buries the same fireman's axe he used to attempt to murder the officer into his chest. (Said officer survives, but he'll never walk again)
Freudian Excuse or other redeeming qualities?
He has one of the most pathetic excuses I have ever seen in my life. A girl rejected him years ago, so he decided to murder her child daughter, and to make sure he didn't get caught, he murdered TWENTY other kids? What?
When Kane questions him why he freaking eats the kids, Gilday simply says, "...They taste good."
He at one point spares Kane's life when he has a gun on her, but this is because he was lusting after her in his public persona. The second she turns him down, and only temporarily, he murders her current date (And his best friend), and tries to force her to watch as he kills and eats a 7-year old girl.
Also, he claims Gerry's just as bad as he is, as having fought in the Iraq war makes them both killers. Bull. Crap.
Finally, he likes Bon Jovi. Honestly that's the most redeeming feature for him.
Heinousness?
There is a copycat killer who murders 4 girls in total, but he didn't eat them, he has an excuse, and is a relatively minor character.
There's also another Serial Killer on the loose who's pretty bad, but all of his crimes are in the past and only mentioned in passing a few times.
Gilday is a child killer and cannibal 20 times over, murdered his best friend, crippled an innocent officer for life, leaves body parts for kids to find, framed an innocent man for his crimes after forcing him to eat kids, and, if his word is anything to go by, murdered numerous innocent Iraq citizens for fun.
Final Verdict?

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!
