During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

That's the kinda thing that's gotta be addressed because that's a huge Fruedian Excuse and not an easy one to overcome
Okay, yes, I probably should've mentioned that.
Laurie mentioned to The Hero that his mother dressed him up as a girl and that everyone thought he was a girl. She then says that for almost seven years, he would kidnap and kill women, and was only caught when the sheriff found one of his tied up victims.
EDIT: Laurie also mentioned that he killed his mother, though it's hard to blame him on that part.

Why so serious?Tentative
to Abbott.
Anywho, I've decided to propose the other Max Steel villain, so here goes.
Who is he?
Makino is the Greater-Scope Villain of the first season, and the Big Bad of the second. He is a half-robot, half-organic being.
What has he done?
Makino is the creator of the Ultralink species, a robotic species that "link" with, well, anything, creating a monstrous fusion 99% of the time.
Using the Ultralinks, Makino, for unknown reasons, began using a planet-sized weapon called the "Alphalink" to "Absorb" planets into it/himself, destroying the planet and its' inhabitants in the process.
Makino's methods usually go: Send a "Scouting" army to scope out and maybe attack the planet; Show up and begin destroying entire cities; Destroy the planet.
We see him do all of this onscreen one time, we see him actually devouring two planets onscreen, and he is stated to have done so to many other worlds.
Making a deal with Miles Dredd, Makino promises Dredd a place in his empire if he assists him in annihilating the Earth.
When his forces finally infiltrate Earth, Makino immediately betrays Dredd, though they manage to strike a temporary truce until Max Steel has been destroyed.
Showing up on Earth, Makino makes his first priority wiping out N-Tech and Max Steel, but this fails (Though he does succeed in destroying N-Tech's primary HQ),
Makino manages to capture Steel, and, determined to dind out why, and how, he rebelled, begins torturing/dissecting him, but Max manages to save Steel, and Makino is (seemingly) destroyed.
Makino reveals he is alive to Dredd, and that he is going to deatroy him along with the planet when he returns.
Reaching Earth in the finale, Makino begins sending out waves of fighters to attack major cities, though N-Tech manages to hold them off for the most part.
It is then revealed that not only is Jim, Max Steel's father, alibve, but that Makino has been using him for the last 16 years as a living battery to charge the Alphalink.
Makino's forces and Alphalink end up being repelled, ruining his plans.
Max frees his dad, but Makino, angry that his destruction of Earth has failed, tries to kill them all as payback before being destroyed by the combined power of the newly reunited father and son.
Finally, throughout the series, Makino is a faux affably evil and sadistic Blood Knight, making any arguements about "programing", which is never really brought up in the show anyway, completely irrelevant.
Freudian Excuse or other redeeming qualities?
Bwahahahaha!!!!......No.
Why he absorbs and destroys planets is never stated, so...yeah.
Heinousness?
He. Destroys. Planets...Onscreen. And is stated to have done so numerous other times. Yeah.
Dredd still counts, though, bevcause he is just a human, so of course he's not as bad as the all-powerful planet-destroying loon, whom, I remind everyone, Dredd willingly teamed up with, knowing what he's done.
Final Verdict?
for Makino. A tentative
to Abbot. His Freudian Excuse needs to be revised.
Freddy Krueger had quite a tragic backstory and a valid Freudian Excuse. However his sadism and cruelty makes hard for you to feel sorry for him. This must be the same for Abby. We know the reason why he became a Serial Killer but he clearly still knows the difference between right and wrong and apparently he likes doing the latter a lot. Also, trying to unleash a Zombie Apocalypse has nothing to do with his past.

Ganossa and Makino.
Inclined to
Abbott based on his past, which is a rather MASSIVE Freudian Excuse, if he was, indeed, molested by a family member.

Not heinous enough
.
BTW, didn't people bring up Starcraft 2 characters? It's been over 2 weeks.

Well, I read about that, but I wasn't sure if that was enough of a Freudian Excuse to justify his actions. That may explain why he became a serial killer, but I don't feel it excuses his actions.
Why so serious?
