During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Dr. Agony
Honestly....
Joker here. The niche of "forcing all of Arkham to kill each other" is pretty nasty given his low tier
By the way, who reserved Digimon Survive?

Watch me destroying my countrySo i am curious on one candidate that has been approved for a long while.
Loptr from Bayonetta 2 is stated to be an Evil Counterpart to Loki and the main antagonist from said game.
However, the fact that he's an evil counterpart has me doubtful of his moral agency status. Isn't he Made of Evil? Or is he like Mephiles the Dark where he does have full consience and chooses to be evil?
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice. (also i'm fluid now)Well being an Evil Counterpart on its own doesn't disqualify someone, we have many examples of that. It becomes a problem if the villain is forced to be evil and can't be good, if the villain is an Evil Counterpart of the hero but is still choosing to be evil they are fine.
I mean, being an Evil Counterpart alone doesn't automatically mean the guy doesn't have agency.

From what i've heard, it's never stated that he isn't made of evil.
And yeah evil counterparts aren't automatically disqualifying but i was wondering because this one is the half of Aesir, a god that also split into Loki, both instated to be the evil and good counterparts respectively.
Due to unfortunate events, i will continue to exist until further notice. (also i'm fluid now)
Agony
I could go either way on the Joker really. He's not super heinous, but he's still pretty bad. I'll abstain for now.
Atropos writeup:
- Atropos is one of the three Fates, alongside her sisters Clotho and Lachesis, with Atropos cutting the threads to end people's lives, something she took pleasure in doing. Relentless in her search for the Loom of Fate after it was dismantled and scattered Clotho/Charlie, Atropos massacres her way through everything in her path including: Charlie's old punk band, the Supernatural film crew, and several of the Legends. Atropos kills either by stabbing her victims, or showing her true form described as having one's insides burned out, while also being willing to torture her own sister Clotho to make her submit. In order to stall the Legends stranded in London, Atropos summons a Zombie Apocalypse to ravage the entirety of Great Britain. The Fates use the Loom to rewrite reality, creating "Loomworld", a world devoid of freewill and choice. Atropos forces her workers to sanitize history's records, while killing people on a whim.

Oh btw ACW. Since you've recreated the Arrowverse sandbox, there is something I wanted to bring up.
I think it might be better to scrap the "pre-crisis" folder thing and just folderize based on shows. Atropos is actually a post-Crisis example, yet the previous Legends keepers are both pre-Crisis. So with the current layout, we'd need to list Legends twice just to do the Crisis split.
Yeah only those two. It's not just the listing twice thing, but like 99% of the stuff is under one single folder, which kinda defeats the whole point of folders?
If there was an equal amount of stuff for pre- and post- then that'd be another story. But as of now, it's not really ideal for search optimization imo

Yes to Dr. Agony. No to the Joker.
I think the Arrowverse page is fine. We as a thread decided to organize it as that and I see no harm in it.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread
Not quite outright non-canon. They set it on a different Earth to Earth-Prime, so kinda like a Soft Reboot of the verse.

oh I see.
idk, just not sure we're going to get much in the way of post-Crisis keepers with so many shows ended. Where would the placement be for a keeper who debuted pre-Crisis but stayed around post-Crisis?
Okay

The likely explanation is that he wanted anyone to take up the Guardian's role (like the red headed girl) and didn't intend to release her after the bargain.
There are far worse retcons in the spinoff. Sure Yann, I'm totally buying that Vigrid tried to send Thorgal to his death to get Aaricia for himself in The Sacrifice even though he enthusiastically did save Thorgal's life in that volume. *Sigh*
Edit: Sorry if i'm derailing the thread.
