Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I'll writeup my CGW guys in a jiffy but have another Spaghetti for now...

What has Aguilar, the "Fair Man," done?

From 1968's A Stranger in Town, Aguilar is a bandito chief who self-proclaims himself a righteous, "fair man." He always says this before doing something evil—for example, ambushing a platoon of around twenty unarmed Mexican soldiers and massacring the lot of them with a machine gun, cackling his ass off. He lets the people from the local church he's captured go, though, saying he's "spilled enough blood"...before letting his sadistic minion drown the priest for a chuckle. Hey, no blood spilled--it was a bloodless death!

Aguilar bumps into our Anti-Hero (literally credited as just the "Stranger") who informs Aguilar the Union Army is coming to collect arms from the Mexican soldiers he slaughtered, and he'll be found out unless he and his men pose as the dead soldiers. The Stranger offers to help them with this in exchange for a cut of the gold they'll receive. Aguilar agrees...for a time, later deciding to renege and torture the Stranger to near-death instead, leaving him for dead, tossing him a single gold coin in his hat to taunt him. The Fair Man, everyone!

Aguilar keeps hitting new lows when he vamps onto the film's female lead, not only attempting to rape her (the Stranger stops this) but threatening to kill her newborn infant with a dagger if the Stranger doesn't show himself. The Stranger does, beating the shit out of him before shooting him.

Any mitigating factors?

Nah. He won't bowl anyone over, especially compared to some other Spaghetti baddies I've done, but he hits some realm profound lows, especially when the dude attempts to murder a literal baby at the very end.

Conclusion?

Simple keeper.

Yes to Aguilar.

Speaking of bandit chiefs, has anyone else here played Trek to Yomi? Kagerou seems like an easy keeper. I might do him sometime this week.

Yea to Aguilar.

Found this on YMMV.G Men 75:

  • Complete Monster: Genji Mochizuki, full stop. Out of all the killers and criminals the G-Men had to face, fans agree that he is one of the worst, if not the worst. A remorseless serial killer, Mochizuki prefers to use an axe to head in dispatching his victims, all with a cruel sense of sadism. Mochizuki also has a complete lack of fearlessness in the face of death - even when having a gun shoved down his throat. Worst of all, as later episodes show, his own brothers and friends aren't immune from imitating his own brand of terror.

I have cut and pm'd the troper.

I haven't posted for quite some time, but I noticed that for Comics' Greatest World, King Tiger's father was approved and has his own write-up. However, I remember that a few years ago, he was already proposed, approved and written up. Here is the original effort post.

And this is his current write-up:

  • King Tiger, by Randy Stradley, Doug Wheatley, & Rain Beredo: Tiger's evil father, the Evil Sorcerer known only as "Dragon", mated with an eldritch horror named Canthastius to produce many half-demon children, of which Tiger was the one success. Having twenty people taken as sacrifices, the final three being the thugs he'd hired to kidnap the other 17, Dragon burns them alive to summon the demon who bore his progeny, unleashing it upon an innocent city with the intent to have it consume the world so he may build a new order from its ashes, intending on sacrificing Tiger himself to fully power Canthastius.

So what do we do with the entry, use Lighty's entry as shown above or use STAR's as seen in Comics' Greatest World?

Well, no worries. STAR is gonna have one more from the original continuity—also, by sheer coincidence, an omnicidal demon who fights King Tiger!

Alright, lemme talk this one I been waiting for, get my mind off irl thints: the latest semi-Breakout Villain from Batman.

Who is Punchline? What has she done?

What do you get when you take Harley Quinn, strip her of all redeeming features, and make her a big tiddy goth waifu?

You get Punchline.

Alexis Kaye was once a typical Alpha Bitch, edgelord high school bully...until the day she stumbled across one of Joker's latest murder sprees, herself nearly killed by the clown before Batman showed up and saved the day. Having always housed a darker side that surpassed the usual nasty bullying she got up to, Alexis became obsessed with Joker and began pouring herself into research and fan worship of him, collecting Joker Fish stuffed animals and regularly ranting in adoration of him on podcasts.

Eventually, Alexis's obsession became too much for mere words and adoration, and so she began attempts to create her own Joker toxin...which she then used on restaurants, office buildings, subway trains, large groups of defenseless homeless people, etc., leading to hundreds of people dying horrific deaths from Alexis's concoction, though it never quite forces a proper Joker smile on their face much to Alexis's annoyance—which she takes out on one dying victim by mutilating him in his final moments.

Soon enough attracting the attention of Joker himself with her actions, Alexis formally becomes his Dragon and chief Psycho Supporter, dubbing herself "Punchline" and murdering the dean of her college to bring her reign in. Punchline further looks into her past, tracking down every single person she ever disliked in high school and murdering them all with the assistance of her close partner and fanboy Aiden...of course, as soon as Aiden outlived his usefulness, Punchline ordered the fanatic to kill himself in her name, to which he obliged. And when her former "best friend" Kelly evaded Punchline's initial murder attempt, Punchline began terrorizing and stalking her for years, murdering any friends she tried to make and making her life a nightmare.

As Joker's top agent, Punchline fully aids, encourages and endorses his nasty actions during the "Joker War" event. Punchline personally plants bombs to wipe out a massive children's hospital simply because it is dedicated in Alfred's name—yeah, Joker-Punchline know Batman's identity here, roll with it—slashes the throat of Harley Quinn, subjects Batman's tech expert and close friend Lucius Fox to nasty Joker toxic acupuncture across his face that scars and traumatizes him for a while, and enables Joker to steal billions of dollars and use it to throw all of Gotham into utter chaos, offering small fortunes to anyone desperate for cash to encourage massive amounts of riots, anarchy and mass murder.

Gotham burns as Punchline rejoices in the "horror carnival" before her, planning to enact Joker's final scheme to destroy all of Gotham with a series of toxic bombs while she giddily brags she's going to spread Joker's "message" to countless more cities and bring them all to ruin when she's done with Gotham. Luckily, Batman and a surviving Harley save Gotham from Joker, and Punchline is arrested to face justice for her crimes.

...except not. Punchline uses her own network of minions to assassinate countless witnesses to her crimes, positions herself as the queen of Gotham's women prison by killing off all rivals, and takes advantage of Harley's own status as a redeemed Joker lover to paint herself as a victim and get crowds demanding her release. Punchline tries to have Kelly murdered once and for all as the final testimony that could expose her, and after setting up Orca to undergo nasty experiments and tying up loose ends, Punchline secures her release from prison (lmao comics) and prepares to further terrorize Gotham....in her upcoming solo series, in stores later this year!

Mitigating features?

Lol no, not at all. She's a sadist edgelord who finds Joker's atrocities to be "the truth of life" and wants to spread "the word" to satisfy her own pontificating r/im14andthisisdeep philosophy of murder, madness and mayhem. She claims to love Joker, but it's made pretty obvious that it's just a Bellatrix style of being utterly devoted to what he represents, even having asides where she expresses annoyance and aversion to aspects of his personality and plans.

Heinousness?

More than bad enough. Murders high school classmates and her dean for fun, poisons hundreds of people to attract Joker's attention, fully backs and goads him on in plans to tear Gotham apart—including bombing a children's hospital—while planning to take it "city after city!" next, what she does to Kelly and Lucius being further sadistic shots...

Final Verdict?

Yee to her, the Joker comic her latest tie-in arc concluded in has one other baddie I'll be discussing soon as I find the time.

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!
