During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Seriously, someone please gimme a header for Bob Morane so I can request locking when I submit the batch.
Ughnn i've never been inspired for headers. I could try "Over the years, the adventurer faced many jackals and warriors. Here are the most heinous ones" but I'm not sure everyone would get the reference.
From the popular French song "L'aventurier" by Indochine. The chorus roughly translates as "Bob Morane against all jackals/The adventurer against all warriors"

Here is my attempt.
Whether in books or animation, both Robert "Bob" Morane and William "Bill" Ballantine have gone on a wide array of adventures across many places. During their travels, they have encountered many horrible creatures but some are a step above the rest.
You can handle potholes.

I'm here to inform everyone that Characters.Jujutsu Kaisen Mahito is a thing.
Everyone look at my sandboxHave another proposal or two from a short indie horror game
What is the Work?
Sanctified
is a short horror game made by ToothandClaw. The premise follows unnamed protagonist, who, along with his family, got into some kind of accident and he and his family are transported into nearby hotel. Bad news though, hotel is basically owned by the cult, leader of which kidnapped protagonist's family.
Full walkthrough with both endings here:
I have proposal for leader of the cult and the entity he worships.
First off, the leader.
Who is Unnamed Leader of the Cult?
The leader of the cult, that worships the entity called The Father, the leader took over the hotel by having the owner tortured and undressed and forced to help them with their rituals. Meeting the protagonist, the leader pretends that he has nothing to do with his family's disappearance and offer to help him escape from the hotel if he gathers 3 missing notes from his journal (which are all a prayers to The Father). As soon as protagonist does that, the leader unlocks the exit and instructs the protagonist to go the specific way (while a guest in the hotel found in the dark hallways instructs to go another way, that would ensure protagonist's survival).
If protagonist goes the way the leader instructed him to go, protagonist would arrive to the area, filled with naked tortured people and dead crucified people, all were tortured and killed on the leader's orders. There the leader meets protagonist once again and instructs him to gather 3 decapitated heads as an offering to The Father. Once protagonist does that, the leader will lead him to their place, where they offer sacrifices to The Father, reveals that he had protagonist's wife and son crucified and burned alive. After which he forces the protagonist to be the new sacrifice to The Father, crucifying and burning alive him as well.
If protagonist goes the different way, he will also see a lot of tortured people, held in cages, as the leader meets him, expresses dissapointment that protagonist left his family to die (even though he, as revealed in another ending, already killed them) and tells him to leave (since The Father already left (without a final sacrifice at his place, which what protagonist was supposed to be) and the leader had no use for the protagonist and didn't care enough to have him killed), wishing that he would die afraid and alone.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
None. He is portrayed as fanatic, who sacrifices and tortures dozens of people in the name of his "god" and even his seemengly friendly behavior and calling protagonist a "friend" is massively mitigated by him acting like that in the very mocking tone (saying that protagonist is "with his family now", family which he had burned alive) showing that all of that is a facade.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Had dozens of people tortured, mutilated, killed and burned alive. I think he passes.

To get this out of the way, here is the second candidate
Who is The Father?
The dark entity that is worshipped by the cult, The Father has the leader of the cult to lead it to sacrifice dozens of people to him, torturing, mutilating and crucifying them, as he claims their souls for himself and use some as hosts, through whom he "walks the Earth".
Concertrating his essence nearby a hotel, that is far away from any cities or towns. Implied to be the one, who destroyed the minds of most of the inhabitans of the hotel (many of them just stand in one place with their head down, doing some franctic and insane movements and do not notice anything, that is happening around them), The Father manifested when the leader lured the protagonist to the place, where sacrifices are usually offered to it, saying: "Blood and Salt. Flesh and Soul. I have delivered you kin to death. They are mine and you shall become divine. Through you i am born anew. I am your flesh. I will walk the Earth as my father once had. I am the Gate. You are Sanctified."
After that the protagonist is crucifyed and burned alive by the leader of the cult seemengly on The Father's orders.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Seemengly none. While there are notes across the hotel, written by someone, who also talked about The Father, but The Father in those notes was a human and actually a father of the guy, who wrote notes and in the last note he is described to be beaten and bleeding from the wounds that, what implied to be members of the cult, inflicted on him. The Father in the game is not shown or implied through any dialogue to be connected to Father in notes, since he is a supernatural entity/demon, who have been long ago been worshipped by the cult.
Regarding personality, while The Father only shows at the end of one route, his dialogue: "Blood and Salt. Flesh and Soul. I have delivered you kin to death. They are mine and you shall become divine. Through you i am born anew. I am your flesh. I will walk the Earth as my father once had. I am the Gate. You are Sanctified." and presence through what the leader says about him gives him enough personality as a sadistic cruel being, who loves being worshipped.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
The one behind the actions of the leader of the cult, aka he is the one, who orders dozens of sacrifices to him, while the leader is the one, who carries it out, claims the very being of people, that were sacrficed to him and brainwashes and mentally destroys several people through the hotel (the leader of his cult is the only one, aside from the protagonist and couple other people, who isn't affected by The Father's power in any way and remains as his own being). I think he passes.
Final Verdict?
