Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[tup] Tiger daddy

Speaking of final EPs, here's my final Nash Bridges EP.

What’s the Work?

Season 4’s “Hot Prowler” is about Nash and Joe tracking down a creep known as “The Prowler”, who breaks into women’s homes to film himself torturing them. These films are posted online for all to see.

Who is He?

The Prowler, real name Ricky Alan Klinsman, is a serial psychological torturer who serves as one of the most personal villains in the series.

What has he done?

Ricky films himself breaking into women’s homes to torment them, mainly by tying them up and psychologically torturing them for kicks, having disgraced reporter Charlotte upload the footage to the internet. Doing all of this to become famous, Nash theorizes that Ricky will soon ramp up his violence to include murder.

But in his biggest display of sadism, Ricky tries to get at Nash personally in order to get arrested. Breaking into his lover Officer Michelle’s apartment, Ricky murders her on camera, hoping to send his little snuff film to Nash to torment him. When Nash arrives to find Michelle dead, Ricky continuously taunts Nash as he gives chase.

Finally cornered on the rooftop, Ricky hopes that he’ll get arrested because to him, it’ll mean book deals, fans, and more. But as Nash tells him: “You’re not going to jail, Ricky. You’re going to Hell!” In a fit of rage, Nash shoots Ricky, killing him on the spot.

Redeeming Qualities?

Zero. All Ricky cares about is attention and fame, no matter what he has to do to achieve it.

Heinousness?

Ricky carves a unique niche in the series for being one of its most sadistic antagonists. Killing an established character like Michelle just to piss Nash off, on top of getting kicks out of traumatizing various women and posting his stunts on the internet just to get famous, puts him in a very unique category of evil.

Yeah, he only has one confirmed kill, but it’s of an established supporting character who meant a lot to Nash, and he’s psychologically tortured tons of women, as seen throughout his many videos.

Conclusion

I think he keeps.

Time for another Zelda Fan Work CM and this will be a long one.

What is the Work?

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (DragonRand100) is as the title suggests a Fanfic Novelization of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time written by DragonRand100. It follows the plot of the game mostly but there are several differences and one of those allows for a possible CM.

Who is Ganon and What Has He Done?

Ganon in this fanfic is a Decomposite Character from Ganondorf, he is also Demise from Skyward Sword. Ganon is a demon who long in the past threatened the land of Hyrule before he was stopped and sealed away. Ganon was use Ganondorf as a vessel in his plan to completely destroy not just Hyrule but all the ten kingdoms. Ganon would do this by taking advantage of Ganondorf's grief at the death of his parents, the curse on his people, and his hatred for the Shekiah for killing his parents, and slowly influencing him more and more via the Skull Mask.

To be clear for this proposal I am only talking about the demon Ganon, not Ganondorf the Gerudo. I will still be talking about some of Ganondorf's actions though as Ganon has a major corruptive influence on him that lead him to do all of these actions, to begin with.

Ganon would slowly lead Ganondorf down a darker and darker path eventually escalating to a full war with Hyrule. Ganondorf would curse the Great Deku tree and endanger the lives of the entire Kokiri and end up killing the Great Deku Tree, then murder off a majority of the Royal Family and take over Hyrule. Ganondorf has manipulated events so that he can get access to the door of time through the hero of time and as a result claims the triforce of power but is unable to kill Link.

Ganon/Ganondorf would begin a seven-year-long reign over Hyrule. Ganon/Ganondorf was responsible for murdering a large number of people, including nearly all the Sheikah, the Gorons, The Zora's and the Kokiri, with his number of deaths reaching in the hundreds to thousands at least. Ganondorf would also burn Castletown to the ground as part of Ganon's quest to destroy everything.

When Link returns seven years later Ganondorf would know that he needed to take him down. Ganon/Ganondorf multiple times murders multiple people if they are simply in his way. At one point he threatens to feed a Goron to his dragon every day if Link does not surrender. Ganon/Ganondorf does so much stuff during the fic that I am also listing the worst he does in order to track down Link.

Ganon through Ganondorf would begin his plan to lay waste to all the kingdoms of the entire world and destroy everything that the gods created. Ganon by this point had managed to nearly totally take control of Ganondorf and is leading him in all his actions. Ganondorf's armies would lay waste to several kingdoms destroying them and killing many more thousands of people, which would also include temporarily killing Zelda. Link would eventually confront Ganondorf and kill him. Ganon would take control of Ganondorf and use him to transform into his beast form taking on Link himself.

Ganon is eventually defeated by Link with the help of a few others. Ganon however vows to return and be a curse on his bloodline forever but Link tells Ganon that they will be ready. Ganon is sealed away and Link after some more stuff heads back in time to fix everything.

Does He have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

So I should probably cover agency first. So unlike the rest of the Ganondorf ones, this one does actually mention Demise. However as I have already mentioned this time it isn't that Ganon is the product of a curse from Demise he is Demise, they are the same ancient demon with a hatred of the gods who want to destroy Hyrule. So since Demise was determined to have agency that means this Ganon should be fine.

Now I will say that this fic is quite a bit darker than the canon material with stuff like blood and violence. However, it never goes overboard in terms of that stuff and is mostly faithful to the source material. Ganon himself never has anything super disturbing with his stuff being large-scale death, which isn't unheard of for Zelda, rather than super gross. It does also have a mostly happy ending.

Other than that Ganon doesn't have any redeeming qualities. Ganondorf does have quite a few like love for his parents, his people, and his child, he did so some bad things before Ganon got involved but Ganon corrupted him into escalating his villainy even further, it's outright stated Ganondorf wouldn't have gone as far as he did without Ganon's influence. But Ganon himself doesn't share these redeeming qualities and simply wants to wipe out everything, out of personal hatred for the gods. He is a simple character but he has dialogue and a defined personality to escape being a GDV.

Does He meet the Heinousness Standard?

Oh god yes. He is responsible, either on his own or through proxy with Ganondorf, for cursing the Great Deku Tree and endangering the entire Kokiri forest, murdering the king, and leading several vicious massacres on Hyrule of the Gorons the Zoras and the Sheikah to name a few. He was the one who corrupted Ganondorf down a path of further villainy and used him as a host. Though Ganondorf, Hyrule would be turned into a desolate wasteland where a large amount of the population was killed off, which included the Gerudo's themselves who would be often sacrificed in battle.

And this is without mentioning when Ganon goes full Omnicidal Maniac at the end attempting to straight up destroy, not just Hyrule, but all of the kingdoms in the entire world and everything that the goddess created.

Yeah, heinousness is easily no problem, this is by far the most evil version of Ganon I have ever seen. Nobody else in the fic even comes close to his level. I should mention his role when it comes to Ganondorf a bit. Ganondorf isn't completely possessed he did willingly make the deal with Ganon but Ganon used Ganondorf's grief and desperation to push him into making that and lead him down a path of further and further villainy. So Ganon does still have responsibility for his actions, especially since that is what he wanted and Ganondorf wouldn't have gone down that path without Ganon, and even then all the omnicidal maniac stuff was all Ganon.

Final Verdict?

Easy yes.

With this Ganondorf/Ganon will have 7 CM incarnations which is quite a lot for a character whose original incarnation doesn't count at all.

  • The Freakmaker: Dr. Nolter is a disturbed college dean who moonlights as a mad scientist, abducting his own students to use in his experiments. Desiring to create a new race of plant-human hybrids to replace humanity, Nolter's experiments usually fail and reduce his victims to states of mutation and agony, after which Nolter them over to his sadistic partner to be paraded in a freakshow until they die. One victim is turned into a Venus flytrap man, who immediately breaks out and starts eating innocent people. All of this is no concern to Nolter, who is happy to keep creating one Tortured Monster after another until he perfects his hybrids.

  • Fables:
    • Roquat the Red, AKA the Nome King, may be the most violently unhinged member of the Empire's ranks. Gleefully signing onto the Ice Queen's plans to exterminate most of Mundane society—while also vowing to tweak her intended assault to make them even more bloody and brutal to suit his tastes—Roquat's true insanity comes to light during his reign over Oz. Roquat turns the entire country into a dystopian Egopolis, executing his own citizens by the hundreds every day, and in his crowning moment of evil, commands the slaughter of every single person within the Emerald City for the crime of a single thrown lollipop.

Writeup for Otfried:

  • Die Pilgerin: Otfried Willinger is Tilla's cruel, greedy brother. He kills his own father to inherit his money, and then marries Tilla off to an abusive husband to cement his political alliance with the latter. He eventually succeeds in seizing the power in the town and sell its trading rights to the Duke of Bavaria in exchange for privileges for himself. The thugs that support Otfried and the Bavarian mercenaries under his command terrorize the populace, with rapes, robberies and beatings becoming a common occurrence in the streets. Indifferent even to the suffering of his closest family, let alone the rest of the townsfolk, Otfried only cares about constantly accumulating power and wealth.

So, discussion dates for the Skeleton Knight In Another World anime have passed. However, since I've also read most of the manga in preparation, and seeing as their arcs are long passed, consider this an EP for both the manga and anime.

What's the Work?

Skeleton Knight In Another World is a light novel/manga/anime series following an unnamed gamer who finds himself in a fantasy world inhabiting the body of his avatar character, a skeleton knight. Going by the name Arc, the protagonist is joined by a Dark Elf warrior named Ariane and a young ninja named Chiyome as they venture across the land doing various heroic acts.

First up, Tryton du Diento.

Who's the Candidate?

The series Starter Villain, Tryton is the lord and Marquis of the town of Diento in the Rhoden Kingdom. In league with Prince Dakares, Tryton is tasked with causing turmoil in the town of Luvierte as a ploy to help Dakares gain power. This results in Tryton ordering an assassination attempt on Lauren Luvierte, leading to her escorts being slaughtered and Lauren and her maid nearly being gang-raped, only saved due to Arc's intervention, and setting basilisks loose to terrorize the area.

Meanwhile, Tryton is also heavily involved the elf slave trade, in violation of a centuries old peace treaty, with elves usually being sold on the market as sex slaves, including young girls. Arc and Ariane eventually infiltrate the town to free the captured elves, receiving unexpected assistance from Chiyome, and then storm the lord's castle. Tryton, meanwhile, is in the midst of raping two elven women to show his son Udolan "how to properly handle them". Arc and Ariane arrive just in time and dispatch Tryton, leaving him at the mercy of his would-be victims, who promptly beat him to death.

Mitigating factors?

Yeah, no. Tryton is nothing but a disgusting rapist and slave trader. He treats his son like trash and goes out of his way to belittle him at every opportunity (not that he doesn't deserve it).

Heinous standard?

So, in just the anime (which thus far has only adapted the first half of the series), he stacks up fine. The manga is a little trickier, as the later arcs include villains like the Cardinals, who are behind a lot of the discrimination against elves and other races, and some attempt stuff like destroying nations.

To be fair, though, Tryton is just the Marquis of a town. With that in mind, he's heavily involved in trafficking elves, including children, and trying to help destabilize the area.

Final Verdict?

Your call. I'll try to Dakares in a bit.

Why so serious?

Yes there and Ordeaux's. Jackie, Atlantis, Agentof Chaos, Silverblade, let's see writeups please? Take the list down.

  • Blindsided: Robert Hollander is a smug criminal and jewel thief after the diamonds hidden by heroine Sara's boyfriend Ryan. Sending his partner Chad to kill Ryan and recover the diamonds, getting another man killed in the process, Hollander intervenes when Sara escapes. Torturing Sara and mocking her blindness, Hollander waterboards her, throws her cat off a roof, betrays and kills Chad, while preparing to murder Sara's pregnant sister and brother-in-law, before trying to kill Sara as well.
  • Murder of the Orient Express: Lanfranco Cassetti is a murderer well known to Herule Poirot for his international notoriety. A blackmailer who kidnaps people, murdering them when the authorities close in but still collecting the ransoms, Cassetti was the murderer of a little girl named Daisy, having continued to exploit her family days or even weeks after he had already killed the girl. Uncaring of how this killed four innocent people, from Daisy's mother dying in premature labor with her new baby from grief, to her father's suicide and an innocent maid killing herself when she was blamed, Cassetti cares only for escaping justice and was so evil that even the heroic Poirot feels obliged to cover for his killers.
  • Wrath Goddess Sing: Demigoddess Helen of Troy is a ruthless, callous, immortal being alleviating her boredom by enjoying the Trojan War. Engineering the deaths of countless in the struggle, Helen happily declares she will only belong to the strongest and takes delight in tormenting the heroine Achilles. Delighting in Achilles' pain, Helen eventually sacrifices Troy itself, feeding on the death to condemn the ancient world to annihilation in a final battle with Achilles, vowing that when the world is reborn Achilles will be remembered as a man, her history forgotten.
