During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Okay, just because I want to cover all possible bases...I'm gonna cover the Brothers Royal II and III. Er, or just the rest of Brother Royal's arc?
Brother Royal II!
So Brother Royal II has his heyday in the 90s Guardians of the Galaxy series and later in Contest of Champions II. In Guardians, in the 30th century, we learn that thanks to Brother Royal's efforts, humanity was subjected to an outright genocide by the Badoon after they colonized the rest of the solar system. Human populations on Mercury, Pluto and Jupiter were massacred in monstrous orbital bombardments that wiped out the planets within hours. The Guardians travel back to the 20th century to try and assassinate Brother Royal to prevent this from happening; Brother Royal offers to gamble the fate of the future on a pitched gladiator game, neglecting to mention his champion is cosmically powered. Nevertheless, his "champion" is defeated and he's sent packing.
In Champions II, Brother Royal allies—very reluctantly—with the Brood Queen, the leader of a monstrous alien race called the Brood that breed within other, living organisms. Xenomorph-style. Brother Royal arranges the "Contest of Champions" on another planet and gets several dozen of Earth's heroes to participate, once again neglecting to mention the victors will be made hosts for the Brood Queen in a horrifying process and then used to attack Earth. Once again, Brother Royal fails, and the Brood Queen corners him on his ship and eats him alive...
Brother Royal III!
...somehow he comes back from that again, or yet another Brother Royal pops up in the 2010s Guardians of the Galaxy series. For as brief as this Brother Royal's screentime is, he really packs it in with the ruthlessness; he has Gamora tortured and her torture screened to the entire Badoon homeworld (and torture, let me remind you, is incredibly commonplace for any reason under his regime). Furthermore he establishes an entire concentration camp planet, sending off countless thousands of alien prisoners to slave themselves to death in service of the Badoon. The Guardians series really puts in perspective how many millions of lives the Badoon Empire has consumed, and Brother Royal ends his tenure once again being killed by the Asgardian Angela.
Any mitigating factors?
See above. I'm gonna let the thread deal with the frustrating continuity issues here...if we should measure them all as the same character, or if we should measure them all separately and whether or not all three count.
Of them all I'd say I'm most dubious of Brother Royal II since he is at the end of an Eviler than Thou moment thanks to the Queen, but he's still fucking nasty and should we treat all three Brothers as one, it's a non-issue.
Conclusion?
How do we say?

Krogan, Skull, Odilo, AFO, Childs, Brother Royals.
Cole, Brian.
Having played the No More Heroes trilogy (sort of; I'm not done with III) and two Time Crisis games, I'm still clinging onto the assumption that these are all the same person who got resurrected because fuck you and your logic.
for Brother Royal II. And III. Or I who got reincarnated. Again.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Yes to Brothers Royal 1, 2, 3, 666 and Your Mom Royal ∞.
J’m’arrête pas tant qu’j’vois pas des lignes sur les moniteurs (Not stoppin 'til I see Flatlines)
Brother Royal. Bit of a weird name really, but I guess "Royal" is just meant to mean he's in charge.
Speaking of, are there any decent members of the Badoon? Even an Anti-Villain or Noble Demon? Or are they just pure, concentrated, wholegrain Always Chaotic Evil like the MCU Kree?
Actually, the Badoon Sisterhood is generally pretty chill. Eons ago a war of the sexes divided the Badoon along male and female...years of evolution mean the Brotherhood of Badoon is an all-male group of genocidal conquerors while the Sisterhood are peace-lovers who want nothing to do with the men of their species.
I'm sure good representatives of the Brotherhood exists too, buuut I've never seen them.
Alright here is my first of the Pokemon rewrites.
Current:
- Black & White; Black 2 & White 2: Ghetsis Harmonia Gropius, the leader of Team Plasma, poses as a kindly and benevolent individual seeking Pokémon freedom from trainers, but is in truth a habitually sadistic, narcissistic, self-serving sociopath who plans to disarm trainers and exploit Pokémon so that he can conquer Unova and from there the world. Viewing his son N only as a usable and ultimately disposable "decoration" for his plan, Ghetsis raised N in an isolated environment and groomed him to be the hero of legend, and possibly used Hypnosis on N like he did several others, violating their minds and making them release their Pokémon companions. On his orders, Team Plasma launches several attacks, endangering humans and Pokémon alike. When battling Black, Ghetsis attempts to have the boy and all his Pokémon burned alive by flames, and then has them sealed inside the Light Stone. Ghetsis later captures Kyurem and forces its power into a destructive Freeze Ray to decimate many cities, freezing populated areas solid. Ghetsis attempts to raise Kyurem's power so he could put the entire continent on ice, and attempts to kill all opposition, even his own son, to the point where he self-destructs the Plasma Frigate to end his own life and the lives of everyone on board, including thousands of captive Pokémon. When N tries to save his life, Ghetsis is infuriated and violently rejects his effort, savagely beating N with his cane in a raving, homicidal rage against him, unrepentant to the very end.

Since April fools was a few days ago, I might as well call back to the Joke EP for Ghetsis

I'll give a yes to the Brothers Royal, with one caveat: If all the males are Always Chaotic Evil, is that an issue? Or is it like the Shrooms where they're bad even for their own kind?
Could the Brood Queen count?
Just a quick question regarding Crash Bandicoot. The version of Doctor Nefarious Tropy from Crash Bandicoot 3 and the male version from Crash 4 are the same character, right? Or does the entire fourth game take place in an alternate continuity?
Check out my current fanfiction project.
