Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Personally I'm going with a nay there for reasons already articulated.

Also:

  • Vice
    • Nico Arroyo is the pampered son of a B Olivian general who is a danger to every woman he meets. Nico has a history of raping maids in his home as well as women he meets out clubbing. Having raped a maid named Odette who left the household, Nico later finds her and rapes her again in Gina Calabrese's apartment. When Odette accepts a payoff from Nico's father for the sake of her elderly mother, Nico declare she "owns" her, tormenting her to suicide. Nico later attempts to rape Gina as well at knifepoint, stopped only by her luring her into a trap to shoot him dead.
    • Sean Carroon is an IRA terrorist so vicious and brutal that the Provos are willing to have him killed to stop his widespread attacks out of fear for the attention he'll bring. Sean has a history of people close to him ending up dead along with bombings and once in Miami, he seduces Gina Calabrese and purchases missiles from an arms dealer. Intending on attacking the Miami airport and destroying the British Concorde jet, Sean tries to murder Gina when she attempts to stop him.
    • Duty and Honor: An assassin who was emasculated by a prostitute he abused and then murdered, the Savage retains a violent misogyny that he indulges on his political assassinations. In every city he finds himself in, the Savage tracks down women with dark hair and brutally stabs them to death, writing obscenities in their blood after, with dozens of victims across the world. Upon his handler growing discontent with his thirst for blood, the Savage threatens him, sneering that nobody cares about "dead hookers" before attempting to kill more.
    • General Manuel Borbon is the dictator of Costa Morada who allows the Medellin Cartel to run rampant across his nation. Distributing drugs, brutalizing people and helping to keep Borbon's pockets filled, Borbon slaughters thousnads of political prisoners in turn and starves his people while he lives in luxury. Upon planning to flee the country, Borbon murders his finance minister when the man realizes Borbon's intent before trying to fool the Vice squad and flee himself.

Other than Disney having its stunt show at the amusement park for years—and even before they fully got the rights, they haven't done anything with Indiana Jones yet.

[up] As I suspected.

Yeah, I agree we should go with the limit to original Disney properties, which is why we are getting rid of other adaptations or random films they were involved with. Actually with Lighty pointing it out there is one animated show that I think should go.

Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! was not just made by Disney but a bunch of other companies were involved in the distribution.

American Dragon: Jake Long is the same as well.

I feel like the bit about Lone Ranger being used in Disney Infinity is a pretty good indicator there too, but I'm gonna ultimately agree to whatever everyone else on the thread wants though.

I should also say that with Indiana Jones and Disney: as far as I know.

I was not aware of that, nevermind.

Unless there is something like that with Super Robot Monkey then It will need to be removed.

Got another easy one, and my first proposal of the new year.

What is the Work

Child's Play 8: Soul of Chucky is a crossover between the Child's Play franchise and Hellblazer, which is mostly Constantine.

Who is Chucky and What Has He Done?

Chucky is as vile as ever. He starts the story off by taking possession of the body of Nica Pierce. Chucky then uses her to massacre several patients and doctors in a hospital including one brutal one where he scalps the brain of one of them.

Chucky has also placed his soul into multiple dolls throughout this story which Andy needs to deal with, I will cover them when they do something notable. One of them attempts to kill Andy which leads to Andy enlisting the help of John Constantine. Chucky while possessing Nica also kills a police officer while decapitating him.

I should also take this time to mention that Chucky has all his canon kills and while most of them are offscreen some of them do have some onscreen impacts and they do solidly establish Chucky as a depraved Serial Killer who has killed a lot of people.

Chucky comes face to face with Andy and Constantine who are trying to use The Heart to put an end to Chucky for good. Chucky uses Nica's life as a way to try and get them to comply as well as murders Midnite and nearly kills Chas. Andy and Constantine manage to get Nica and plan to perform an exorcism on her to get Chucky out of her. However, in a cruel act, Chucky has put Nica in a state that if they try that she would be made an empty shell. Luckily the two do find this out and are able to get Nica awake without turning her into an empty shell.

Later on, Chucky massacres a team of SWAT Agents one by one when they tried to stop them. He also murders the agents in pretty brutal ways often by ripping their organs out. Chucky also brings all the Agents back to life forcing the heroes to kill them again.

Chucky continues to kill people as he pleases and tries to take down Andy and Constantine at all costs. Later on, he ends up regaining his human form thanks to Damballa and vows revenge on all those who have defeated him. Charles and his army of dolls as well as Tiffany get into a final duel with Andy and Constantine. Eventually, Charles is defeated and this time he is dragged off to hell for good.

Does he have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

I mean this is Chucky we are talking about so do you really expect him to have any redeeming qualities. Tiffany does exist but Chucky shows no signs of legitimate care and when she dies at the end Chucky doesn't say so much as a word.

Does he meet the Heinousness Standard?

Chucky is the same depraved Serial Killer he has always been. In the fic, he is responsible for two separate massacres one of doctors and patients and another of a group of SWAT team members. He kills his victims in brutal ways and we get clear info that he is a horrible killer who has killed many people sometimes with flashbacks to go along with it. His kill count is well within the dozens area in just this fic.

Final Verdict?

Easy keeper.

[tup] Chucky

Okay, next Arkham candidate...

Who Is He?

The Joker, one of the Big Bads of Arkham Asylum alongside Strange, is a sadist who wants to spread as much chaos as possible with the Titan drug.

What has he done?

Prior to the events of the script, Joker invaded city hall and held the mayor hostage, having also crippled Barbara Gordon and confined her to a wheelchair. When he’s arrested and sent to Arkham Asylum, Joker breaks free and releases all the inmates of the island Asylum and taking over the facility.

Joker also frequently abuses his girlfriend Harley Quinn, while showing affection for his captive Peyton, viewing women as just objects to lust over. When Harley comes back telling him Batman got away from her, Joker forces her to play Russian Roulette to see how much she really loves him. Joker uses the final bullet in his gun to shoot Frank, a mole of his who helped him escape custody, all because he let Gordon escape.

Joker threatens Batman with gassing everybody on the island should Gordon try and stop him. But his ultimate plan involves spreading the Titan serum throughout Gotham, willing to turn everybody into large, hulking, cannibalistic monsters just for fun. Once the Titan drug’s finished, Joker tests it out on some Asylum doctors.

Summoning Batman to a part of the facility, Joker wires two missiles: one that will launch over Gotham and infect everybody with Titan, and another that will deploy Smilex/Joker Venom across the entirety of the Asylum and kill everyone on the island. But when he finds that Harley’s run off with Poison Ivy, Joker hunts them down to kill them both. This leads to Harley shooting him in the cheek, the Joker stumbling off a cliff and into the ocean below, never to be seen again.

Redeeming Qualities?

He’s the Joker. What do you think?

Heinousness?

Again, he’s the Joker. He’s responsible for tons of deaths, and his plan to turn everybody in Gotham into monstrous Titans, as well as kill everybody in the Asylum with Joker Venom puts him up there with Strange.

Conclusion

Another easy keeper.

So here's the last of the Arkham script candidates.

Who Is She?

Punchline, real name Alexis Kaye, from Arkham Knights, was one of Harleen Quinzel’s former patients and a Joker fangirl who claims to be his new girlfriend.

What has she done?

A diagnosed sociopath who, as a child, presented a box full of skinned, crucified rats as part of a school project, Punchline would go on to commit a variety of crimes the older she got. Getting the recipe for Joker Venom from the Dark Web, Punchline would experiment her homemade Venom on several homeless people, video-taping the results and uploading them to the Dark Web.

With the Joker dead, Punchline seeks to recreate him in order to continue the Clown Prince of Crime’s legacy of mass destruction. Gassing an entire restaurant and killing everyone except Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, as revenge for Harley killing Joker, Punchline incapacitates her lover Ivy. Punchline even kills all of Harley’s goons at the ACE Chemical factory.

With Nightwing and Harley tracking Punchline down at the March Venture Chemicals plant, Punchline decapitates a Joker copy after viewing it as a disappointment, and reveals to our dozens of Joker copies that she plans to release. After Harley saves Punchline from falling into a vat of toxic waste, Punchline thanks her by slitting her throat and mocking her. This leads to Punchline getting kicked by Nightwing into the waste below. But Puncline survives, where it’s revealed later on that she’s actually working for Lincoln March in his plan to spread terror across Gotham, offering him the Joker Venom knowing the consequences.

Punchline later heads for the hospital to enact the final part of her revenge against Harley. Using her katana, Punchline threatens to gut Ivy just to spite the recovering Harley, believing Harley’s affection for Ivy to be the true cause of Joker’s death. Harley reacts by texting to Punchline’s Dark Web page as a distraction for Harley to push Punchline through a nearby window, sending both down to the pavement below. But don’t worry, they’re okay.

The last we see of Punchline, she’s been placed in Arkham Asylum with two broken legs. But she hears the voice of Joker, telling her to never give up. Punchline laughs as she starts planning her revenge… but since this is the last installment, it doesn’t matter. Bye.

Redeeming Qualities?

Punchline loves the Joker because according to her, he made “people see the clowns they really are. Showing them they should laugh at death and tear down society.” Which are really just the ranting and ravings of a madwoman only obsessed with the Joker, rather than someone who genuinely loves him. She’s really nothing more than a Psycho Fangirl who loves the idea of Joker rather than the man himself. Even Harley thinks she has issues.

And yeah, Punchline's crazy. But she's not any crazier than the Joker. She's fully aware of what she's doing, and takes glee in harming people.

Heinousness?

Punchline’s a low-rent Joker knockoff willingly working with someone to spread poisonous gas all across Gotham. Add her connections to the Dark Web, her plan to create more Jokers, and her murder of the homeless, and you have someone who stands out in the trilogy.

Lincoln March, from the same script, doesn’t keep, as he genuinely values Batman as like a brother to him.

Conclusion

Another easy keeper.
