Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

So, I have been in this thread for a while and have gotten a candidate on my own from the recently concluded TV incarnation of the Transformers toyline, Transformers: Cyberverse, being my first EP in general.

But first, I need to discuss about any other character in the show.

  • Megatron, the series Big Bad, has undergone Adaptational Heroism and thus obviously doesn't count.
  • Starscream is an easy keep. No one attempted a body count as high as him during his attempt at being an Omnicidal Maniac out of out of petty spite, even after what all the latest villains pulled.
  • Shockwave has come close, being responsible for why the Decepticons have started destroying the Earth, but despite being under The Starscream, Shockwave actually showed concern for Megatron, supporting him when he suffered a leg injury and adviced him to heal out of genuine concern, and when Megatron orders him to kill himself, he follows it without question. You can't be not genuinely loyal to that, especially since how he delivers his willingness to supplant Megatron if he proved to bring more failures is "I will be forced to supplant him. "Forced to" is the key phrase.
  • Sky-Byte has several civilization and countless star systems to his name, but they all happen offscreen and shouldn't be counted, at least to me, while also undergoing a Heel–Face Turn by the end of the series anyway.
  • Megatron X is also a keep. He is the only villain to commit 2 successful genocides on the Autobots and the Decepticons, and even what the new villains I will discuss do, he has one of the highest kill counts in the series, and is willing to repeat his Autobot and Decepticon genocide once again in the main universe with great relish. Made worse is that the recently released finale reveals that his mindless Perfect Decepticons aren't inherently mindless. They actually have minds of their own, with even the series' incarnation of Tarn being the basic proof of it. It is just that they are the mindlessly obedient villains we knew as Megatron X mindwiped them to enslave them to his will.
  • Tarn is actually bad, planning to restart the Devastating Great War to have the Decepticons wipe out the Autobots, and when they refused to follow him, Tarn wanted to have both Autobots and Deccepticons wiped out, while reprogramming the Perfect Decepticons to his will. However, my gripe is he doesn't meet the heinous standards. Both my current candidates, and his former master Megatron X, have gotten much higher kill count, the former having a higher attempted kill count. Even the main Megatron and Shockave went bigger in-scale, attempting to wipe out the life of 2 planets rather than just 1 (Cybertron)
  • Soundblaster is also a candidate and I am gonna post his EP soon.
His boss is also someone I am more definite on, but spoilers, as out candidate is a Walking Spoiler.

What is the Work?

Transformers: Cyberverse is yet another animated TV show based around the Transformers toyline, following the Great War between the Autobots and the Decepticons, which eventually conclude in the Season 3 premiere, before proclaiming peace later due to troubles like the Quintessons or the Other One, but eventually, a peace treaty is made, but before it is declared, time in Cybertron is frozen by a gang of thieves called the Mercenaries, however, unlike most thieves, this group of thieves lead by Soundblaster have heists that have proven t be extremely devastating to the planet. Our candidate is the main behind them.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

Trypticon is the man behind the Mercenaries, who had them lead multiple heists across a dozen planets to loot them, all of them leading to great tragedy as Trypticon knows that the planet will eventually be destroyed thanks to their heists, destroying multiple planets while Trypticon sits back and watches the destruction he is behind with great excitement. Their previous target was the Dinobots homeworld, with Trypticon implied to be the one who slayed their leader, Tiny Arms. Eventually, Soundblaster sought to get his revenge on Soundwave for his humiliation millions of years ago, so Trypticon allows Cybertron to be his next target, freezing time over the planet.

After all his minions are defeated by the Dinobots, Trypticon drops the friendly facade he shows to them and reveals his true colours, callously firing them and leaving them trapped inside the box they used to gather the loot, so he can leave them to die when he burns Cybertron to the ground, which earned disgust by Grimlock. Eventually, Trypticon chooses the Dinobots as his new team, ordering them to board his ship so they can prepare after Trypticon's planet destroying rampage, planning to target new planets to loot and then destroy, however, the heroes refuse his offer to which Trypticon engages in a fight, which then ends with the Mercenaries fleeing and Trypticon being blasted by the Time Freezing Ray, being left frozen for all of eternity.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

No, at least to me anyway. Trypticon cares any less for his men at all, pulling of a kind employer towards them as he views them valuable pawns to destroy multiple planets, before dropping it when they have one failure and then leave them to die as he destroys the planet they fail robbing, before planning to move towards even more planets. Nothing implies Trypticon is made of evil or is incapable of doing good and seems to clearly know what is right and wrong. Now, Trypticon does have one comedic moment, but only one. When on the job as a planet destroyer, he is taken as a serious threat.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Okay, the show actually has a high heinous standard, but the thing is no one is confirmed to have a kill count as high as Trypticon, even the Quintessons, who are mostly implied to have destroyed other universes also. Trypticon's kill count is explicit, he is responsible for the death of millions across the universe by destroying multiple planets, before planning to target much more, callously abandoning his entire team to die in the planet he is about to destroy when they fail. Yep, easily passes it.

And considering it is an established pattern of all planets he has his minions loot, and that we see one of the planets destroyed, not Offscreen Villainy imo, compared to Sky-Byte, the destroyer of 7 civilizations and countless star systems, which however are offscreen imo, and thus shouldn't be taken as a proper comparison.

Final Verdict?

Big yes imo.

Okay, still a bit iffy on the canceled rules, so I’ll give this a shot.

What is the work?

Batman: Multiverse is a Batman fanfic series that was cut short. I’ll recommend the baddies by order of first appearance, and the from what I read of the heinous standard rules some of them might not get in. Either way.

Who is Barbatos and what has he done?

Barbatos is a sadistic Destroyer Deity out to consume Earth 0 so he can rule over the multiverse as a god. Part of his plan involved keeping Gotham on Earth 0 (the main DCU in this series) the cesspool that it is, which he had done through his two immortal henchmen, Samantha and Nia, who lead the Court of Owls. Meanwhile, he drove Amadeus Arkham's mother to madness, causing him to Mercy Kill her, and conspired with Samantha and Nia using his prophetic abilities to create some of Gotham's most deadliest criminals, including The Joker and Zsasz, while also killing anyone who attempted to make Gotham better, like the Wayne’s.

When he decided it was finally time to begin his endgame, Barbatos traveled across the multiverse, recruiting the most wicked and evil Batmen for his cause, even devouring the entire universe of one of them. With all his recruits, Barbatos was finally summoned to Earth 0 by Samantha and Nia, thanking the two for all their hard work by letting his corrupted Amazon army rape and butcher them while slaughtering their followers. He then begins a siege on Gotham and the rest of Earth, killing millions. Unfortunately, this is when the work was canceled.

Excuses or mitigating factors?

None. The most he has is pragmatically want to keep the powerhouse of his operation, The Batman who Laughs, alive. Other then that, he’s the same sadistic murderous excuse for a Bat god he was in the comics.

Heinous Standard?

He sets it in bodycount alone after he devoured a whole universe just for power, the only villain responsible for death on that scale in this fic. That, along with being the Greater-Scope Villain of all of Gotham’s threats, I think he reaches it.

Final Thoughts?

Definitely the easiest keep. If I say.

[tup] to Barbatos. Cut Enel

Now, for my final Cyberverse candidate, and then, that's all for the series.

What is the Work?

Refer to my Trypticon EP above.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

Soundblaster is the leader of the Mercenaries. However, he was a Decepticon. Being the faction's entertainer, once Soundwave defeats him in a beatboxing battle (more of an epic battle than an actual beatboxing competition, I mean, thank god, it would make his excuse at least less stupid), Soundblaster's position as the Decepticon's beatboxing champion was taken. Having been angered by his defeat, Soundblaster fled the planet and formed his own group of people called the Mercenaries, being under the employment of the Titan Trypticon. Trypticon, preferring to be in the shadows, has Soundblaster lead the team, which Soundblaster accepts, gleefully leading multiple raids that lead to the planet's destruction. One of them was the Dinobots' homeworld, to which they seek revenge.

Using the Time Freezing Ray to freeze time in Cybertron, Soundblaster attempts to have his native planet destroyed to settle his petty vendetta. Plannning to loot the place before destroying it, Soundblaster then engages in battle with Grimlock and the rest of the Dinobots, remorselessly freezing one of his teammates, Bug Bite, by accident when he was trying to shoot Grimlock. After being defeated by them, Soundblaster decides to focus on his real goal isntead.

Driving to the parade, Soundblaster then orders his 3 henchmen, who were fooling around, to get serious, while he attempts to get his revenge on Soundwave, only unfreezing his head, Soundblaster boasts how nobody will forget how he destroyed at least a dozen planets. He then targets the only person Soundwave cares about, his pet Laserbeak, unfreezing him to increase the cruelty as he shoves him to his prison for him, all to spite Soundwave. He then unfreezes his entire body to kick him into an infinite resonator that he stole, planning to torture S Oundwave to death by having him shake violently due to the soundwaves of every sound he makes keep amplifying and echo over and over again, giving major blows to him over and over and shake him violently until he ends up breaking into little pieces.

Then Volcanicus, the combined form of all the Dinobots (and Grimlock) seeks to battle them and save Cybertron, Soundblaster freezes Soundwave before he tries attacking him, and when Laserbeak forces his way through, Soundblaster's own pet, Buzzsaw, chases after him. Soundwave then accidentally freezes his pet, exclaiming "SCRAP!!" when he did so, before ignoring Buzzsaw's condition and existence, having all his men take down Volcanicus instead. Soundblaster is eventually defeated, and trapped inside the box he planned to use to store all the loot, earning Trypticon's fury, who fires him, before planning to leave him to burn when he destroys Cybertron. Eventually, during the battle between Volcanicus and Trypticon, Soundblaster eventually is freed, but ends up losing his legs after being hit by Trypticon's laser. He then asks Nightbird to help him escape the planet, being unfazed seeing Trypticon's presumed death and his reaction being more on escaping Volcanicus.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Freudian Excuse my foot. His Freudian Excuse is Soundwave beat him in the competition. What is so justifying in using that as an excuse on leading multiple planet destroying raids. Now, the next question, is he actually taken seriously with such a ridiculous excuse? Yes, imo. Trust me, it doesn't look as ridiculous as putting it in words. Instead of an actual beatboxing competition, it is presented rather as an epic battle of soundwaves instead, thankfully. Because either way, it is still the worst excuse I have seen in my life, not exaggerating.

Now other comedic moments, occasionally, but it isn't that much, and don't overshadow that he has destroyed multiple planets beforehand, and the story still takes him seriously. Other redeeming qualities, nope. He has coldly shown he cares nothing for the Mercenaries if that is what him coldly reacting to his accident in freezing Bug Bite shows us. He was unfazed. And Trypticon, his subservience to him is just extremely professional than someone who is genuinely loyal to him.

Now, once I thought he cares about his bird, Buzzsaw, yelling "SCRAP!!!!!" when he misses Laserbeak and freezes Buzzsaw instead. The thing however is, it can be interpreted as anything really. The yell can be because he missed and shot one of his allies instead, especially since he then ignores Buzzsaw's condition and existence when he instead tries shooting Volcanicus. Had he cared for Buzzsaw, he would've immediately tried unfreezing him rather than trying to freeze his enemy. So, I don't think this is a problem.

Does he Meet the Heinous Standards?

Yep, Soundblaster plays an extremely crucial role in the destruction of the planets, after having been personally leading the planet destroying raids himself, the only one who shows pride towards his actions in raiding the planets to the point of destruction. That alone makes him pass the high heinous standards of the show as through his planet destroying raids on at least a dozen planets, Soundblaster has the highest explicit killcount (barring the Quintessons, who are heavily implied to have already destroyed multiple universes before, and are much more powerful than Soundblaster), only being comparable Sky-Byte for his resources, who has destroyed 7 civilizations and countless star systems.

However, the comparison seems problematic, as I have told, Sky-Byte imo suffers from Offscreen Villainy in such acts which end up being brushed off after being merely mentioned in one scene. Soundblaster's actions however, has been brought up multiple times, having an established pattern of all those planets being ones Trypticon targeted, and we see the destruction of the Dinobot's home world, so I don't think it is a problem also.

(Also, he went beyond Trypticon's orders, his horrific attempt to torture Soundwave to death, and before hand unfreezing his pet to make it feel pain as he shoves him to his compartment and hold him prisoner out of spite were not ordered, so there is that. However, whether if it is heinous enough for the write-up maybe up to debate.)

Final Verdict? Also another keeper, my opinion at least.

Lemme get these in:

  • Stargirl: Eclipso, the ancient demon residing in the Black Diamond, is a malevolent being who savors fear, negativity and corruption. Having corrupted and devoured the souls of countless beings, Eclipso opens Season 2 by murdering the young daughter of Dr. Mid Nite in flashback and assists the orphaned Cindy in forming a new group of supervillains after murdering her stepmother. Trying to corrupt the heroes into monstrosity, while killing one of Cindy's allies and classmates, Eclipso eventually attempts to merge the world with the Shadowlands to rule it like a god and feed on the souls of humans at his leisure.
  • Wheel of Time: One of the most terrifying of the Forsaken, Semirhage was once the most gifted healer of her age, but also a cold sadist who enjoyed torturing those she healed as "payment." Eagerly joining the Dark One, Semirhage's territories were marked by hideous torture with Semirhage experimenting on her ways to cause agony such as replacing human blood with similar substances. Semirhage massacres the court of the Seanchan Empire, personally torturing the Empress to death and tries to emotionally destroy Rand Al'Thor before the last battle.
  • League of Legends:
    • Le Blanc the Deceiver is the secret master of the land of Noxus. Having once helped to overthrow Mordekaiser by having the lands bloodily invaded, Le Blanc took up the reigns as the secret master of the Black Rose cabal, where she conducts a number of wars and campaigns, manipulating the fortunes of the empire. Having also destroyed numerous minds for her schemes, Le Blanc has a deep enmity for General Jericho Swain, using pawns to be destroyed in testing him while also seeking his downfall, despite her lust for him. Le Blanc is also closely allied to the monstrous Elise the Spider Queen, supplying a regular stream of acolytes for Elise to sacrifice for centuries.
    • Fiddlesticks, the Ancient Fear, is a malevolent demon returned to Runeterra. A being as old as the world itself, Fiddlesticks delights in stalking its prey, repeating the final words of its many victims to new ones. Fiddlesticks gleefully attempts to mentally torture any victim it finds and is known to agonizingly slaughter its prey, even children. In one story, Fiddlesticks spends its time haunting a small village, eventually killing everyone within until coming at last for the one remaining inhabitant.
