Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

If this guy does end up counting (abstaining for the record) I think an SRW page could be needed well it's only 8 all of them are from Video Games.

BTW, I know we don't have TOO many, but even with 8 (and more to come?), a page may be good, as the tree would look a bit unwieldy:

Regarding potentially more SRW CMs to come, the only one I am really looking into is the Big Bad from Super Robot Wars GC, and specifically his incarnation in that game as his Original Generation incarnation wouldn't pass the HS test there. There also aren't any more villains distinct enough from their canon counterparts from what I can recall apart from Worse!Jamitov in SRW Alpha and Alpha Gaiden, and I think the incarnations of Kagatie, Dogatie, and Azrael from the Alpha Timeline all blow him out the water—let alone any Super Robot villains.

But then again, not too much of their games are in english as the games only got localized really recently and MNeidengard's translations on gamefaqs are a bit of a mess.

A SRW page can also be divided into Original Generation and Crossover Games folders.

The grand tragedy of SRW. The games are just really freaking hard to translate.

Probably, part of the issue is that we'd need someone who can read Japanese and go through the script translations. SRW GC's OC villain is the only one I can look into because it has a official translation AND a gamefaqs script translation that isn't a jumbled mess.

[tup] to Oldna. Well aside from a few abstains and mir's arguments against The Governor's Son, It would seems that the majority had no problems voting [tup] for the Governor's son so here's his write-up

  • Good Hunting: The Governor's Son is a sexual deviant with a lust for machines. To suffice his perversions, he forces the prostitute, Yan, to endure a painful surgical procedure converting her into an android and forces her to become his personal Sex Slave, by threatening to cast her off into the streets limbless should she not fulfill his depraved desires.

This entry reads awkwardly:

  • Daemon: The Major brutally kills Roy Merritt, cuts off/out Loki's fingers, tongue, and eyes, orders his mooks to throw Sebeck and Laney into a wood-chipper, and saves teenage girls from brothels—all so that he can get them Darknet accounts and then behead them to steal their Darknet identity, keeping their heads chemically alive to spoof the biometrics. Oh, and he came up with the real "Operation Exorcist" plan to expunge Daemon from civilization: Alpha Strikes. Invade Darknet communities with full military force, then send in mercenaries who proceed to destroy every piece of technology present and execute every man, woman and child.

Now heres' Poseidal's writeup.

  • Super Robot Wars 30: Emperor Oldna Poseidal is just as vile as he is in his home series. On top of his various canon crimes, he would be drawn to the chaos engulfing the Earth Sphere in his efforts to achieve immortality. Upon coming into conflict with both the Dreikreuz and the Rebellion, Poseidal would align with the Zanscare Empire, assisting with Zanscare's various atrocities such as Operation Giant Roller and the creation of the Angel Halo in an effort to gain the secrets of Psycommu technology for himself. Seeking to overthrow the Quaestors and rule the universe as a God, Poseidal would also support the efforts of The Claw to activate the various Pillars around the Earth Sphere in order to open the portal to Subspace. When betrayed by Mian during the final showdown with Dreikreuz, Poseidal would boast that he has no more use for Mian, seeking instead to instead use Shakti as the vessel for the Bio-Relation system to upon trimpuhing over the Dreikreuz.

As for the introduction to the SRW CM page, I'd use something like this:

Throughout many timelines, the heroes brought together in Super Robot Wars' various massive crossovers have faced many heinous villains, both original and from differing mecha anime series. these are the very worst.

The entries would be divided into a Original Generation folder(for Original generation exclusive figures or characters that would hypothetically og characters introduced in other games that get adaptational villainy with their debut in original generation) and a Crossover Games folder.

@ACW: Convenient. I was in the process of doing my write-up.

  • High Guardian Spice: Mandrake is an unhinged shapeshifter who revels in wanton destruction and death. After Olive fails in her mission to kill Rosemary and her three friends, Mandrake is appointed to take care of the girls for her. Posing as a teacher within High Guardian Academy, Mandrake drugs the other teachers and lures most of the academy's students into a locked room and sets it and the rest of the school on fire, nearly burning all the students and teachers alive. Once he finally confronts Rosemary and her companions, Mandrake almost kills the four of them, and even targets Olive once she turns against him.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.

Some people need to move on their writeups. Cring and Godzillawolf have been pending a while for 'em. Enough is enough.

  • Lolita: Clare Quilty is an eccentric and wealthy man who serves as the dark shadow of the already depraved Humbert Humbert. While Humbert is a pedophile who seduces Dolores "Lolita" Haze, Quilty centers on Dolores and stalks her from place to place, seducing her into a twisted affair for his own purposes. Wealthy and bored, Quilty forces children to participate in child pornography films and has Dolores thrown out when she refuses to participate.
  • Blood Diamond: Captain Poison, wishing to escape Sierra Leone via as much wealth as he can amass, is a warlord in the Revolutionary United Front who ravages the countryside and has the hands of young men lopped off as a twisted joke on voting to take the "future in your hands." Running brutal slave labor for diamond harvesting, Poison kills any who try to keep diamonds for themselves, later massacring numerous civilians and taking the children to be used as cannon fodder and brainwashed child soldiers with a disturbing interest in Dia the son of his nemesis Solomon Vandy.
  • The Devoured and the Dead: Lassiter is a scarred bandit who comes upon the lost gold-rush party after the adults are infected with the curse of the Wendigo. Lassiter is revealed to have murdered the hero William Coburn's father, executes their Native guide Ahote and proceeds to try to take the women and girls as sex slaves, having become obsessed with William's sister Lenora. Upon learning of the wendigo curse, he simply tries to feed the children to their own parents and takes Lenora, later interrupted by William in the process of raping her.
  • What If: The demonic Set comes to earth via the "Brides," seven heroines brainwashed and implanted with Set's spawn. Set slaughters most of the heroes and annihilates the lost city of Lemuria, killing even his own followers and turning most of the world into brainwashed serpent people so he may rule. Killing almost every hero sent against him, it is revealed that his offspring devour the Brides when birthed, with most of the world still lost upon Set's defeat.

Lighty can do Zilla's writeup, since IIRC, he's seen the film in question.

Cring's writeup can be handled by 43, I guess? Maybe he can condense what is in the EP into the writeups.

For Film Quilty just throw in a little extra line of how "he even offers to let Humbert witness a live execution to save his own life, one of his favorite pasttimes."
