During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Not to mention, if we ever DO get an Elm Street page, I'm sure there are PLENTY of Freddy images we could find.
Amusingly, of the 7 current keepers, 6 (2 film, 3 comic, 1 TV) are Freddy; the other's that copycat from New Line Cinema's Tales Of Horror. Even Halloween has two non-Myers.
Yeah alot like the already mentioned Halloween, Flash Gordon and Terminator

To be fair I was submitting it for the image links page not to be used on Evil Dead, as I thought it was good until Lighty pointed out the illegal site link I somehow missed.

I counted out of curiosity: Flash has 3 others; Terminator has the Dark Horse duo, Parnell, Megatron, and MIR (Russian Skynet).
Yes to the first; unclear who's doing what in the second. Which one's the dude with purple hair?
Yeah, I know. I was mainly just curious myself.
Incidentally, of the 17 MK keepers, the only ones who aren't one of the Big 4 are the MK 11 duo (both female interestingly).

Alright fair enough I will admit I probably should have looked closer made a msitake there.
I also like Mir's images so they get my upvote.
Yeah I am aware of that but they are pages that are mostly just different incarnations of one character which was what I was thinking of. I would also count Russian Skynet as an incarnation of the character.

to the images.
Okay in a very surprising update last week was the premier of season 24 of Silent Witness, which also saw the return of none other than Scott Weston making him the shows ever first ever returning killer (for those who can't remember him here is a link to his effort post
) as the serial's side antagonist and Red Herring of the episode.
As to the matter of whether anything disqualify occurred, thankfully after discussing it myself and Atlantis have concluded that he still keeps.
To elaborate the episode do tease a number of potentially migrating factors, but by the end Scott's managed to subvert every single one of them. He's initially seeking an appeal on his lifetime conviction having convinced the prison psychologist to make the case for dismissed responsibility due to mental impairment brought on by parental abuse and childhood brain damage...which turns out to be a complete pack of lies solely in the hope of getting an early release, that he got the quack to agree to by sleeping with him.
Scott does have a girlfriend, but its made clear he doesn't actually care about her. She's just someone he's manipulating to further his appeal.
Its proven at the end that Scott is in fact perfectly capable of feeling empathy, but as Nikki points out this actually makes him a worse person not a better one as it means that every single horrible thing he ever did, he did with full knowledge and understanding, cause he chose to.
Now the one moment that did concern us is that Scott does end up having a reaction when Nikki describes to the brutal details of how his mother was murdered (you might remember the same mother he himself tried to kill), but the thing is this ends up amounting to just that, a momentary reaction.
Otherwise Scott doesn't care in the slightest for his mother, his attempts to reach out to her were entirely to help his chances of getting an appeal, when told she's been killed Scott flat out starts laughing. And even after his reaction, he's immediately back to smirking a few moments later not caring in the slightest, then tries to cowardly use it to manipulate Nikki into saving him from dying.
So whilst he was affected, he pretty much discards it only a few moments later. Again it reflects the fact Scott can feel empathy towards others, he just choses not to.
So yeah we think he's still a keeper, so I guess his write up needs to be altered to mentioned that he has a reappearance but that's about it. He otherwise doesn't really do anything worth adding to his write up (Scott maybe killed a former cellmate and starts a prison riot at the end that leads to the corrupt psychologist dying) save maybe that he deliberately subverts any possible mitigating circumstances.

So they brought back one of the shows most infamous villains who last appeared in 2010 as a...Red Herring to the actual bad guy.
That sounds really odd but yeah he sounds still a solid keep.
All yours.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Mir: Yeah, it was really odd. Especially as he's one of the most prolific killers from one of the most high stakes episodes to an otherwise pretty grounded and below standard episode in a show that's never brought any antagonists back before (heck they've never even directly mentioned any previous antagonists or cases before).
I'm worried its a sign their running out of ideas.

Yes to the Your Throne duo.
Also a side note, I'm feeling pretty frustrated atm since mobiles still not working right on this site, and it would seem I am permanatly logged out as far as my phone goes, since it won't log me in.
I'll still be on here by desktop, but I won't be able to be on here while traveling until the problems fixed.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."

Chill on the image please... as was literally just asked of you.
