During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Demon, since the sadism is quite explicit here.
Demon (jeez, there’s probably more Sy Fy movies than trees at this point)
Second candidate from JLA: Riddle of the Beast
Who is Luthor Rex
?
As is obvious now, this is the comic's version of Lex Luthor, who was one of the former chief commanders of The Beast, who actively participated
in The Beast's rampage, personally leading armies to kill thousands in The Beast's name, alongside Starro the Conqueror. After The Beast's apparent demise, Luthor decided to conquer Kryptonia, which was ruled by a weakened Kal'El (whose adopted parents Rex murdered), Luthor burned down
every village in the Hanging Valleys, gathering an army to attack Kryptonia. Succeeding
in doing so, Luthor stormed
the gates of Kryptonia, killing many, until Kal'El ordered
a complete surrender of his own forces, to stop Luthor from killing them. Luthor decided to show kryptonians how weak their ruler is and tied Kal'El to his horse and dragged him across the streets.
Having his army force
the people of the city to cheer for him under the threat of death, while also allowing his army to imprison
and beat people on a whim. Ordering the execution of Kal'El, Luthor didn't noticed when captured Robin sneak into
Kal'El's cell and tore
off his kryptonite necklace, which "cured" Kal'El and allowed him to easily overpower the guards. As Luthor plans to massacre a thousand kryptonians
as a "celebration" of the death of their king, Kal'El arrives
, easily defeats him and his army
and forces Luthor to join their fight against The Beast, threatening to kill him should he refuse. We never see him again after this.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
None.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
While The Beast sets the standard, i think Luthor keeps up, considering that out of all Beast's henchmen he and Starro have the biggest bodycounts, and the fact that we never see Starro in person, nor we ever hear him talk, Luthor is the only one with estabilished presence and personality, with us seeing his forces assist The Beast in his murder spree and there is also additional heinous level that elevates Luthor, is his conquest of Kryptonia, where he immediatly decided to enslave the population and then openly plans to massacre a thousand of its people as a "celebration" (despite them surrendering to his rule).
Final Verdict?
What do yout hink?

for the Beast. The Demon I'm not so sure of.
So found out an indie game I'd been following came out a month ago. It's Backbone, a mystery/suspense game taking place in a World of Funny Animals where you play as a raccoon private investigator looking into a man's disappearance. Said investigation leads to Clarissa Bloodworth, the new matriarch of a drug-dealing criminal gang that's kidnapping people, butchering them, and feeding them to Apes, a league of corrupt businessmen (or businessapes) who rule over the city. Seems like a very easy keeper.
Up until halfway into the game, it's revealed she has been secretly helping young women around the city and recruiting them for her gang to turn their lives around. And then the ending reveals that Clarissa was only kidnapping rapists and other criminals, not innocent people. It's also revealed that she's actually trying to blackmail/overthrow the Apes to make the city a better place. Overall, she ends up being a (somewhat botched) Well-Intentioned Extremist.
I may replay the game at some point, but there isn't a single person who's the ringleader of these Apes, nor is there a big-time Corrupt Corporate Executive driving the plot forward. And considering how the game ends and that the protagonist seemingly dies and Clarissa gets a Karma Houdini, we're probably not gonna get any answers unless the developers make a sequel.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Which is exactly why I took your guys advice and the last two ONLY submitted monsters that are explicitly sadistic and their MO's SHOW it.
Banshee: Torments her victims until they WANT to die and then brutally murders them out of sadism.
The Demon: 'Likes playing with broken mice' and singles out a person with serious guilt and depression to make her life a living hell purely for its own amusement and does things like set up her boyfriend's severed head as the main dish of a dinner by the corpses of the rest of its victims just to mess with her.
You all told me to only submit nonvoiced monsters if they are explicitly sadistic somehow. So I did.
I'm not meaning to seem aggressive, but I'm just saying you gave me advice, I'm following it.
Btw I am now going to watch a horror film called the drone where the ghost of a Serial Killer played by Neil Sandilands (aka Clifford Devoe from the flash) is possessing a Drone...
Will tell you how it goes here. And wether he count. Sounds terrible but hey I'm bored.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Zilla, don't take this the wrong way, but the more dialogue a villain has, the more of a leg we have to stand on when approving them. Maybe consider films where there are villains who have more dialogue. While I myself have a minuscule number of candidates who have limited dialogue and still establish themselves as people who get their jollies off from committing atrocities, I generally don't like dealing with such candidates.
Fair.
I admit, I'm not actively LOOKING for these. I came across the Banshee and this demon by sheer chance because I thought the movies looked interesting and wasn't even looking for CM candidates. I just noticed how utterly monstrous the villains were and thought I'd bring them up because people said 'if you have someone you think counts, bring it up.'
~Lightysnake, thoughts on these changes? (highlighted)
