During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I get that. I tried not to have it to long, but I couldn't remember where a lot of it came from. It's been a while since I read the comic.
Personally I don't quite mind the Godhands entry because they are a Unique case where they share the Big stuff that pushes them over the Heinous standard, but each of them has a More unique function in it that pushes each over Individually. So having there Header explain the Big stuff and there more individual crimes explained in there specific entries fits to me.
Bow to the PrototypeHere's a quick little EP while I'm busy getting some personal projects done.
What Is the Work?
Caged Fury is a 1989/90 Women in Prison movie featuring Erik Estrada, James Hong, and Michael Parks, with Ron Jeremy appearing as a cop who gets the shit beaten out of him. It was directed by Bill Milling, who had spent the late 70s and early 80s directing and writing porno. Let’s just say Jack Horner he is not.
The plot concerns Kat, who moves to Los Angeles to become an actress. But one of her roommates, a sleazy photographer named Ken, gets her to audition for a porno. When the audition goes poorly, to say the least, Kat is sentenced to the hard to find Honeywell State Prison for Women, where the prisoners are all raped and beaten by the guards on a daily basis. It’s up to Kat and her friend Rhonda to find an escape, while Erik Estrada and his muscular Lou Albano lookalike try to help break them out.
Who Is She?
Sybil Thorn is the lecherous warden of Honeywell who harbors a little secret of her own.
What has she done?
You see, Honeywell isn’t actually a prison. It’s a set that was built by Sybil and her associates, with Sybil nothing more than an actress. Partnering up with a bunch of pornographers, Sybil gets them to falsely commit their actresses/models to Honeywell via a mock trial in order to be sold at an auction to the highest bidder. But to get these women to be more submissive for her potential buyers, Sybil has her prisoners routinely raped by her guards should they step out of line, even raping some herself in return for an early parole that's ultimately never going to happen.
Kat discovers later on that prisoners who try to escape not only have the chance of getting raped by the guards, but killed as well, discovering a hidden room full of the corpses of her prisonmates.
Once Kat and her sister (who was imprisoned as a way to comfort Kat) break free of Sybil’s control over them and free all the prisoners with the help of Not!Lou Albano, Sybil orders her guards to shoot and kill each and every single one of them. After all, no one gets out of her prison alive. This leads to plenty of deaths, with some prisoners getting shot before they could even leave their cells.
And then Sybil completely vanishes from thin air, never to be seen or mentioned again. But at least most of the prisoners are free, Honeywell's shut down, and Kat makes out with Erik Estrada. Yay?
Redeeming Qualities?
Zero.
Heinousness?
Sybil partakes in rape, human trafficking, and murder all for the sake of personal pleasure and money, and her orders to kill everyone would’ve led to over a hundred deaths. It’s safe to say she easily makes it.
As for the others? Well the pornographers are just a bunch of sleazebags who don’t go beyond what Sybil does on a daily basis. Ken’s an asshole who attempts to rape Kat’s sister when she stops by to ask where she’s been, but he’s ultimately nothing more than a pathetic cog in the grand scheme of things.
Sybil’s guards don’t really stand out as well. One of them, Spyder, is given more screentime than the others to enact his love of murder and rape, but that’s what all the other guards do. He’s basically a glorified mook who's surpassed by his own boss.
Conclusion
Easy keeper.
It's Spooky Month!Well, I got some news. Well, mostly bad news. I started work on Darkman II, in terms of writing my next candidate Dr. Alfred Hathaway, paused the movie to run to the store, and came back with my Bluray shut off (it does that after it is paused for a bit) and glitching out. I am going to likely switch out that Bluray player for another one we have, but if that doesn't work, then I gotta cancel my Darkman candidates.
Sure to Sybil
I can see that point, Again the Godhand sound more unique then most other villains who count for sharing a big crime like Xander rice and Donald pierce because sounds like they share a lot of stuff that's worth bringing up for why they count. It feels like it would also be Awkard to split 'Performed a sacrifice in there past, are behind all the Apostles, enforce the idea of evils will and Manipulate and cause death throughout the world, and tempted Griffith to cause the Eclipse' Said in slightly different ways 4 times.
If it could be done I won't throw a fit though. Might help to add some Umph to there individual entries.
Quick question on the entry myself though that this reminded me of...Is Midland the name of the world or just a specfic kingdom in it? Because I've read that the Kingdom of Midland has had wars with other Kingdoms(and I assume Aliens aren't in this), if Midland is just a nation should it say that the Godhand cause death across the world instead of just there?
Bow to the PrototypeYes to Sybil.
I don't see the need to give Drakkon so much. He's a big villain, yeah but he's not Palpatine - who's been around for decades - or Michael Myers - whom has had numerous different timeline incarnations and reboots. And both villains are somewhat grandfather'd for being iconic examples of CM's.
Midland is a single kingdom.
Honestly their entries are strangely short as is, it looks like there’s a CM entry unto itself because of how the intro is written and there are a cluster of Mortal Kombat entries which likewise share a team up crime and at least originally their entries had the team up phrased the exact way. It doesn’t take too much effort to reword things creatively. It’s how the aforementioned Rice and Pierce avoid repetition.

Look. I just wanted to help. I don't see a problem with giving him a tree. He does a lot and it saves time by making an entry shorter. It's not like Vilgax is such an icon villain like Palpatine or Myers. He just does a lot. That said I don't really care either way.
Edited by Bullman on Jul 15th 2021 at 4:55:57 AM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI ain't touching Vilgax since I don't know Ben 10, so I'm just trusting other's judgements there.
Apologies by the way. I wasn't getting upset at you.
I just don't think Drakkon does enough to need something we do not reserve for Joker, Red Skull, Ultron etc. If we can adequately sum up decades of comic book villainy with this lot, why is Drakkon so unwieldy?
I strongly suspect he can get a LOT of his crimes cut down nicely and that this is just an "Oh let's put in as much of his crimes as possible" which is a habit we should try to avoid.

It's fine. I understand where are coming from. I really don't care either way. I proposed the idea mainly to see what others thought. Thank for giving your opinion. This is a thread and to be honest, you bring up good pints.
I still personally don't see a reason not to, but I don't care either way. It's not my entry. I don't how. Oh this unrelated character doesn't is an argument though. For instance why is Rick Flag a tree when none of his entry are that long.

Sybil, James, Bateman, Tim, Vitel.
What does Ganishka's entry literally start with ACW?
I'll go in good faith you were trying to make a humorous statement but I need you to acknowledge that makes one of countless questions that could have been simply answered with a quick search that you choose to pose to the thread.

Though speaking of trees. Why is Randall Flagg a tree when none of his entry are that long? I don't know much about the character and am just wondering.
Edit: Never mind all together that 300 words. Ignore me.

She doesn't. She is not heinous enough. She was discussed and voted down.
The only one left who might count is Grumm from SPD. I think mir or someone has him on their to do list
