Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Wrong Teen Titans Go, ACW. The comic with a keeper is a continuation/supplement of the original series like The Batman Adventures was to BTAS.

Making a rewrite from my older entries.

The first one is Nia.

The current entry reads.

  • Lightning Only Strikes Once: Nia, Queen of the Ice Nation, is narcissistic, spiteful, and ambitious. When Lexa originally became Heda of the twelve clans and thus outranked her, Nia has Lexa's lover Costia brutally tortured, decapitated and sends Lexa her severed head. In the present, she is trying to undermine Lexa's rule with a vicious nightblood named Ontari and places a kill order on her own exiled son Roan. When the ARK first returns to earth, Nia breaks the coalition laws by allying with the Mountain Men, sacrificing the people of Skaikru and own followers. When her crimes are later exposed, Nia plans a war against the other clans; allies with Diana Sydney to steal and launch a nuke powerful enough to wipe out a country; allows Diana to use her people as slaves; tortures Gustus and Titus, the latter to an inch of his life; and plans to repeat what she's done to Cosita with Clarke, sending Lexa a lock of Costia's hair. When Clarke escapes, Nia goes on a mad search for her, raiding and burning villages and torturing her people; she ultimately keeps all food rations to herself to fortify her hideout, not caring that she's condemning her kingdom to starvation. When forced into a final confrontation with Clarke and Lexa, Nia attempts to kill them slowly.

Now in this fic, Nia does have a pretty big rapsheet, but not enough to go into the 200 + count. Hence the rewrite below.

  • Lightning Only Strikes Once: Nia is the narcissistic and spiteful Queen of the Ice Nation. When Lexa became Heda of the twelve clans and outranked her, Nia has Lexa's lover Costia tortured, decapitated and sends Lexa her severed head. In the present, she tries to undermine Lexa's rule, and places a kill order on her own exiled son Roan. When the ARK first returns to earth, Nia breaks the coalition by allying with Mount Weather, sacrificing the people of Skaikru and her own followers. When her crimes exposed, Nia plans a war against the other clans; allies with Diana Sydney to launch a nuke powerful enough to wipe out a country; allows the enslavement of her people; tortures Gustus and Titus, the latter to near death; and plans to repeat what she's done to Cosita with Clarke, sending Lexa a lock of Costia's hair. When Clarke escapes, Nia has her villages raided and burned to search for her. Later, she keeps all food rations to herself to fortify her hideout, condemning her kingdom to starvation, and when forced into a final confrontation with Clarke and Lexa, Nia attempts to kill them slowly.

Edit: On second thought, I think the other can wait. It was a rewrite on the Scarlet King, as I noticed a misspelling in how his true name is apparent true name being "Harak".

[tup] to the Mole, Hubert Matkowski, Arleta Szewczuk, the Nia rewrite, and the third Ben 10 header (first one's good too, but I'd probably reduce "redeeming, endearing, or sympathetic" to just one adjective if this header is used).

As for the Mephiles image, I'm on a [tdown]. Doesn't really seem that heinous.

@futuremoviewriter: Fair point on the Carnage image, but I'm still on a slight [tdown] on it. For me, it's kind of a generic "bad guy threatens hero" image without anything truly sadistic or memorable shown.

BTW guys, let's try and clear up the new pending pages:

  • Charmed is going tomorrow.
  • Yakuza and Ratchet & Clank are close (we just need the Judgment one(s?) for the former, and Zurgo for the latter).
  • Ben 10 we just need the writeup for Zs'skayr (pinging ~Snowy66)
  • Maciste and Apes will be a little time.

[tup] for Iwao, Antinea, Hindle, Kale, Kurowia, and the snuff filmmakers.

Had a chance to watch L.A. Confidential, I'm prepared to give Patchet a definitive [tup].

[tdown] for the Carnage and Mephiles images.

Okay, so bringing back my Scarlet King rewrite, I was gonna do what I thought was a correction on his true name. While that's no longer my issue, reading up on the other tales surrounding him, I felt he could use a small expansion if no one minds.

  • The Scarlet King is the embodiment of malice and cruelty in the SCP multiverse, and directly or indirectly the source of much of its chaos and corruption. Born as Kharahk, he was a weak, but godlike being who was the first sentient being in the Darkness Below and quickly driven to hate all creation, and thus sought to destroy it. Starting off by devouring his siblings, Kharahk went on to subjugate the Darkness Below, killing and enslaving gods and mortals, across multiple dimensions. His influence on Earth includes ruling as the Daevite's ultimate God of their bloody theocracy, and the creation of James Anderson's factory. Becoming the Scarlet King raped the goddess Sanna to death, before turning his seven daughters into his new brides. He would father monstrous children to serve in his armies; it is implied one such child is SCP-682. The Scarlet King caught the Foundation's attention when his cult was exposed and seven girls were found impregnated with his children; six of them died giving birth to monsters that would go on rampages with causing mass death and destruction.

Alright, I talked to a friend about Ben 10 CMs and he suggested two "pure evil" villains from what details I gave him on the trope. Not gonna fully EP 'em since I don't really have time at the moment, but here they are.

  • Dagon from Ultimate Alien, multidimensional conqueror, killed a lot of the original Forever Knights and if memory serves correctly successfully transformed nearly every human on the planet into a mindless Esoterica slave. Some of his crimes are offscreen, however, so that might be an issue.
  • The "Forever Knight" (singular) from season three of the reboot. Knight of Cerebus with no funny qualities, repeatedly spies on Team Tennyson and tries to kill both them and rewrite history to his liking. While the argument could be made that he wants to get rid of Ben and his aliens to protect Earth in the latter case, his motivations are most likely not well-intentioned since no Earth means no planet to conquer.

As for what my memory tells me, Mycelium from the OG series episode "Camp Fear", maybe? Sentient mushroom that manipulated plants and (alien) fungi in an attempt at planetary assimilation. Died from athlete's foot medication but was played for horror most of the way. Gonna have to give it a rewatch.

Though I do remember him self-admitting to being evil. Was he ever proposed at any point prior?

As for the Forever Knight… eh, it was worth a shot.

Here is the write up;

  • Arleta Szewczuk and Hubert Matkowski and dua of Snuff filmmakers. They kidnapped a young girl, and put her through Cold-Blooded Torture. Arleta would come with various torture methods while Hubert would use them. That included shoving a nail through her hand, tying her up, beating her, as well as burning her with coal. In the end, Hubert killed her. During their trial, it has been revealed they have done similar tortures to other young women, and once all has been proven each blames the other for the crime. Hubert also committed a rape in the past. Sadistic and completely emotionless, the duo stood as some of the very worst, Judge Anna Maria has judged.

Obviously, they go under the tree. Since their eps happens after previous candidate, they will be below him.

[up] First episode is called Morderca z Kempingu (Murderer from Camp) and second episode is called Śmierć na żywo (Live Death).

Edit: Also, for Emlian writeup, I rewatched episode with him too recently and last sentence should be changed; it says; "When one of the survivors of the kidnapping testified against him, he initially pretended that she was insane and he didn't know who she was, before threatening everyone in court."

Instead it should say, "When of the survivors of the kidnapping testified against him, he acted like he didn't know who she was, but as soon as his wife finally presented an evidence against him, he stated that he should have done exact same thing to her as he did to all the women he killed."

So then the tree looks like this?

  • Sędzia Anna Maria Wesołowska (Judge Anna Maria Wesolowska):
    • "Morderca z Kempingu" ("Murderer from Camp"): Emilian Kozłowski is a trade representative with the highest body count in the series. Emilian has been accused of kidnapping a young woman and locking her in the trunk of his van; it was later revealed that he had done this to many other women, who he raped and killed. When of the survivors of the kidnapping testified against him, he acted like he didn't know who she was, but as soon as his wife finally presented evidence against him, he stated that he should have done the exact same thing to her as he did to all the women he killed.
    • "Śmierć na żywo" ("Live Death"): Arleta Szewczuk and Hubert Matkowski are a duo of snuff filmmakers who kidnapped a young girl, and brutally tortured her. Arleta would come with various torture methods while Hubert, who had previously raped a woman, would use them, killing her in the end. During their trial, it has been revealed they have done similar tortures to other young women, with each blaming the other. Sadistic and completely emotionless, the duo stood as some of the very worst Judge Anna Maria has judged.

Should we use the English or Polish title of the series?

"It's too late, Majima! The wheels are already spinning. War will consume the east and the west. And the Tojo Clan will fade. Things are about to get interesting! It'll be prime entertainment! So I'll go on ahead... and get the best seat in the house."
