During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Some writeups. I'll do Elementals and Jose when the other halves of that collab go up. Zurgo from Ratchet & Clank is still on my to-do, likewise so is the second character from Clown:
- Moon Knight: The Bogeyman is a child-devouring monster who wanders from neighborhood to neighborhood seeking "crops of blood and gristle to harvest." Not just a predator but a gloating sadist, the Bogeyman is interrupted as it's preparing to eat another little girl alive, telling her that her fear makes her all the more delicious.
- Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal: Courtney Gears, pop sensation of the Solara Galaxy, doubles as The Dragon to Dr. Nefarious and is the one carrying out his goal of destroying all organic life in the galaxy. Courtney Gears operates Nefarious' Biobliterator—a device that subjects any organic to Unwilling Roboticization, reducing them to mindless murder-bots—and tests it out on Skidd. Not only intending to use to Biobliterator on a much larger population, Courtney turns her latest hit into a sensation to encourage her loyal fans to kill any "squishies" that Nefarious doesn't convert with the Biobliterator.
- Marvel Mystery Comics: Admiral Von Roeder is a high-ranking Nazi dispatched by the Fuehrer himself to find and destroy Namor the Sub-Mariner. After quite literally crushing the information he wants out of a young boy whose corpse he cruelly throws away like garbage, Von Roeder decides to wipe out not just Namor but everyone associated with him, invading Namor's undersea city in a giant mech and commanding his army to attack and kill everyone.
- The Execution: Wilheim Gehbert, the "Beast of Birkenau," was a Mad Doctor at Auschwitz in his heyday who preyed upon countless Jewish female inmates, raping and torturing some of them to the point they were no longer able to conceive—if they ever left the camps. After Gehbert walks off a sentence for his direct hand in thousands of deaths, some of the survivors elect to kill Gehbert in a vigilante crusade. When Gehbert recognizes one of his victims, he is absolutely remorseless, telling her before he tries to kill her that if he had a chance to do what he did again, he absolutely would—only he'd be more thorough.
- The Dark Game: Roderick Wells is a reclusive, utterly demanding author whose bestselling books and sponsorships have made him the most esteemed author in the world. The seemingly-human Wells is actually a cunning Ancient Evil who devours the talent, the creations and the very souls of other creative minds to fuel his own life. Wells has fed upon countless souls by the time of the modern day, and he's all too gleeful to try and devour the next batch of ten authors he's lured into his mansion after playing elaborate mind games with them. Even his own wife is nothing but another creation, a hollow servant and a sex toy for him for when he's bored.
I think Lighty's got one more Moon Knight candidate, but for now:
- July 2015's "Bogeyman": The Bogeyman is a child-devouring monster who wanders from neighborhood to neighborhood seeking "crops of blood and gristle to harvest". Not just a predator but a gloating sadist, the Bogeyman is interrupted as it's preparing to eat another little girl alive, telling her that her fear makes her all the more delicious.
Can we start seeing writups for Nehellnia and XANA? Some of these shouldn't be pending too long.
have one from an obscure comic, too:
What's the work?
Vitriol the Hunter is a limited series comic about Nimiru Vitriol, vampire hunter, who lives in Basilika City, where vampires reign over the night. His father was a scientist who made bad mistakes, but left Vitriol with superhuman abilities which he uses to hunt down and destroy vampires...and their leader? Lord Barthus.
Who is Lord Barthus?
An ancient vampire, one of the eldest on the planet. Barthus is a powerful monster who runs his court as horribly as one might think, with humans regularly captured and drained as Barthus seeks the end of Vitriol's father's research so he and the vampires might conquer daylight as well. When introduced, he's drinking blood from a goblet...thanks to attaching a draining device to the wrist of a human victim as he beats down a subordinate for mildly contradicting him and setting his chief minion, Vitriol's own brother who was turned when Barthus had the whole family massacred, to slaughter a group of policemen for their goals...something which is pretty routine.
Barthus proceeds toclash with Vitriol and allies, all while planning the vampire uprising. Unsatisfied with just his minions, he also used tortured Lycans who've been genetically enhanced by the same research...Barthus is also revealed the regularly massacre and drain humans with his personal favorite tactic being to release a human into his personal labyrinth and hunt them for sport to give them hope before murdering them.
His ultimate goal? To cause a vampire uprising, killing most of humanity and keeping the rest as cattle. A Iming at the research he needs to seize the day, Barthus massacres most of the polite force and leads to a final fight with Vitriol, who's killed his brother to save his allies...V Itriol manages to win and beats Barthus down, but surprisingly, takes him hostage, resulting in Barthus locked away so he's interrogated and his conspiracy exposed...all while Barthus is imprisoned for all eternity.
Mitigating issues?
No, not the most exciting character, but...a keeper. Barthus hits all the nastiest marks of a vampire overlord here. Personal crimes, vast reaching plans, zero care for his minions whom he abuses on the regular here in case we think he's too subtle. Nothing much else to say on this guy.
Conclusion?
Keeper
Yeah, seems a pretty basic keeper, but a keeper all the same.
Nehellenia I'm fine with the wait, since there may be others from the franchise, but XANA's been pending for awhile.
Also, Zs'Skayr needs a writeup (and the page needs a header). Also, does that caption really work for the image?
Also, I never got a response: Can I trim the fat from Complete Monster Discussion Dates and remove the entries that nobody's claimed?

Go for it. I found the original EP
.
On that note, anyone planning to re-propose the Slendy/Siren Head stuff (I don't plan on it; I was just wondering)?
Would this be an appropriate addition to the Ratchet and Clank Monster page?

Clank: There must be another way to make a home for your people.
Drek: You think that's what this is about?! Who do you think polluted our last world? I did! This is about one thing and one thing only: CASH, and lots of it! You see, I've been paid for every square inch of my new world. Once the inhabitants move in, I will begin polluting this world as well, then the whole thing starts all over again. Ah, brilliant.
