During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Majorly eager, happy 'Yes' to the Godhand themselves, spectacular work! For page image, I dig the idea behind the Wyald ones, but they're really not showing up all that well for me, very small and all the panels distracting me on my end but might just me. Label me for the original Ganishka pic folks were approving of unless the Wyald pics get an update.
And a 'Yes' to Robespierre! There's one other from Sandman I threw Lighty's way that he should have up soon enough as well, so y'all look forward!

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!
to Robespierre
to the Godhand Quartett
Close but that’s enough for Yes votes for Crossbone to pass.
Funny how this started with “I think Malekith isn’t really a GDV and we should reevaluated him.” and ended with four new C Ms.
Here is the Draft for Dream.
- Dream SMP fanfic passerine
: The Green God, Dream, the God of control was an ancient force of Control along with the God of Balance Philza. Upsetting the balance by usurping control of reality, Dream would the control entire world and the lives everything in it before destroying and recreating it prevent Philza from remembering who he is. In the current loop, Dream has plagued Philza's son, Wilbur and his best friend Technoblade with his voice for their entire lives, tormenting them, telling them terrible prophecies, compelling to do terrible actions, or just straight up, controlling them, even driving Technoblade to kill his family when Dream decided he didn't want him to have a happy life, just so he could screw with them. When Dream decided to invite Philza to see him, he did so by invading with a massive army, most of them mind controlled, knowing full well they would be buried in a rockslide, as well as use a city he mind controlled into slaughtering themselves so they could pinpoint their location, When Philza, Technoblade and Wilbur find him, he dashes their hopes of resurrecting their dead son, TommyInnit, then tries to force Wilbur to kill Technoblade before banishing them to a plane where they were forced to say goodbye to the people they love most to escape, something Dream did every time to distract Philza when he reset reality. Sadistic and a complete Control Freak, Dream caused immense amounts of suffering to keep everything in his web and Philza under his thumb.
If you wanna debate me on it that's fine but know it's caused a massive badge of honour mentality issue with people trying to jack up their favourite villains, particularly with that medium and I'm not really down to be galvanizing it Ordeaux. This becomes a difficult discussion when someone comes in not knowing the background and starts putting up defences for it.
I'm guessing Norman was referred to in the thumped post.
Jagdeep, seems he's the epitome of greedy sociopathic merc scum (plus as pointed out being rather worse than his co-dragon).
STARCRUSHER99's Killian analysis looks fully on point, no disagreements there.
Dunno enough about the context of the XIII pics/quotes to judge IMO (and yes, as a native French-speaker, I AM ashamed of myself over this).
to Daedalus. I'd guessed the twist about the cop soon as it was mentioned he was an "avid follower of the legacy" LOL. I'd also add stalking and planning to kill his own daughter as part of his legacy to his heinousness factor, because 1- she's his freakin' offspring and 2- from what's written she doesn't even fit his standard MO (namely being a cheating spouse) so he's not doing this out of psychotic obsession with said MO/scourge-of-God indignation. Also, LOL Lifetime movie of the week.
Malekith quote looks good to me.
Welcome back ANewMan! And yes, this thread is insane.
to von Schlitz. Always fun to see Canadian content; gotta keep up those CRTC quotas as per regulations LOL.
Raisa for trying to out-Umbrella Umbrella.
Nergal; methinks it's the thing with the police that pushes him over the edge.
Prof. Zombie; getting a bum deal due to her own villainy and having a death wish in the end aren't big mitigating factors in most cases IMO, including this one, and seems to me she manages to keep a grip on her own agency. I like that her evil ramped up over her run, and that there was a reason behind it.
Sandman Robespierre. While not a fan of the man myself by a long shot I kinda doubt he was quite that depraved IRL. Also, I feel the need to correct Scraggle on one count - Robespierre wasn't nobility, he was part of "the third estate" of the Ancien Régime i.e. anyone who didn't belong either to nobility (first estate) or clergy (second estate). Also he was a lawyer.
Howard Prince rewrite looks good.
Four for a CM group entry seems like a good absolute limit, and poetically dovetails very nicely into Four Is Death IMO.
Godhand sans Femto (who has a very justified separate entry; agreed that separate entries for each would be best). Also go Lighty's quote. FUCK I'm still not over Miura-sensei's death.
Adding a
to Rumlow/Crossbones since I think I missed doing so before.
Wyald munching people is good.
Dream seems hella nasty but wow that's a big entry.
I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me.

I have no idea what's going on in any of those pictures
