During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I have a few quotes for the Lord Commander. They're all from Season 1.
- One day, he ordered all of his generals to prove their allegiance to him by killing their firstborn.Avocato talking about the Lord Commander, Final SpaceCan't you see? There is no one beside you. Avocato, his son, your crew. Everyone you've cared about is gone! All because of that! And now, your life ends, but nothing quick. I want you to experience the same pain you put me through. A slow, painful death. The Lord Commander, Final Space

~ACW I thought of a better idea how about we name the page Monster.Web Novels so we don't have the confusion about what Web Serial Novels is as it includes all forms of Web Novels.
The first Lord Commander quote.
Abstain on the second quote, the part of "the same pain you put me through" give me a pause (about the quote not the character)
If we move AlternateHistory.com to Literature we will need a new quote. We have some quotes ond the quotes page. I think these two are the better:
Blake Belladonna: I never wanted this! I wanted equality! I wanted peace!
Adam: What you want is impossible! But I understand because all I want is you, Blake. And as I set out upon this world and deliver the justice mankind so greatly deserves, I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love.

I am the one, I am the one, the godlike terror train, superior artificial brain, feel free to call me BlaineBack on the previous thread page, I have to concur that the new pages requests are getting a bit out of hand. It's a lot of work and in no other trope do we allow the creation of a lot of such specific subpages.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman~Septimus Heap Fair enough I will hold off a bit on the new page requests, since I have been doing it quite a bit, though to be fair I usually do it myself rather than get someone else to.
Since you here I thought I could ask if Web Serial Novels is used for all forms of Web Novels?
Okay, so I’m going over the list of works ACW has on the previous page and I think I see an issues. For starters, don’t Web Serial Novels need to be…novels? Also multiple of them. Some are novel length but one-shots (not serial) and some aren’t one-shots but aren’t novel length (not a novel) and some like Blood After Midnight are both not novels and one-shots. 3 Terrifying Tales has about 20,000+ words between all 3 works. That’s not standard length for a novel.
Web Novel is a redirect to Web Serial Novel so I am guessing it also includes that.
If that is the case then there is no Media category to put Web Literature besides Literature.
I just want to point out for people who haven't looked at the ATT thread, the only mod who responded didn't back up what Ordeaux is saying
all Septimus said is this might need to be a wiki talk discussion.
Yeah, Ordeaux, don't keep pursuing that line of inquiry here. Go to ATT and get a broader range of opinions about what to do with organization of web literature.
EDIT: Looks like you already did. I'll wait for a potential Wiki Talk discussion to be opened.

Not that I particularly care either way (I'm not the one who would end up doing the work, after all) but I really feel like it's not as serious as you're making it out to be. There are some rules that the site follows borderline-religiously - no ZCE, have good grammar, no first person troping, etc. - and the fact that they haven't cracked down on that like they crack down on other stuff just makes me wonder if it's necessary.
Like I said though, I don't really care either way.
