During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

So Planet Baron is now a thing. Keep that in mind as that may be more appropriate than Evil Overlord in some cases (notably original Darkseid and the Ultraseven entry).

How's this for the description?
A time long ago, a time of myth and legend, when the ancient gods were petty and cruel, and they plagued mankind with suffering. The world cried out for heroes. These are the worst that Hercules or Xena, along with their companions, have ever faced, rather god, warlord, or king.
I am unsure in it, and didn't know where to pothole the verse. Thoughts?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadOkay like this?

I am still unsure on if it is any good, and am open to suggestions.

How is that?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadKnocking that pending list down to one with Adam Taurus #4 - and yes, this fic somehow has a fully functional and fleshed out recap space, so if you wanna add it to the one chapter Adam is in then go right ahead:
- Jaune Arc, Lord of Hunger chapter "Vengeance": Adam Taurus proves himself to be just as spiteful and sadistic as he was in canon despite his short appearance. In the past, Adam was incredibly abusive to his girlfriend Blake, physically abusing her and then gaslighting her into believing the abuse wasn't happening. Leading the White Fang in their attack on Beacon, Adam gleefully participates in the murder of innocents, including executing an Atlas student after defeating him. When confronted by Blake and Weiss, he blames Blake for all of his horrific actions and rejects all of her attempts to talk him down, gleefully slicing out Weiss' eyes when she talks back to him just because of her last name. Immediately afterwards, he stabs Blake in the stomach, gloating that he purposefully missed any of her vital organs just so she could continue to suffer for leaving him.
Edit: You know, I've given it some more thought, and I think that the Nihilus from the fic has earned his EP at this point. He's certainly done enough, the odds of anything mitigating are as good as for Griffith, and the fic updates so sporadically that it'll be a while before it finishes, so I'm gonna start the EP and get it out.

to the Herc-Xena page header. Way to go Bull
I, erm, better make sure the Pending Writeups list remains short, then.
- Pulí (2015 film): Thalapathy Jalatharangan, initially appearing to be Queen Yavanarani’s lackey, turns out to be controlling the queen with a magic ring, using the queen as a puppet as he commits various massacres and indiscriminate slaughter of entire villages. Introduced killing a band of peaceful ambassadors to prevent them from meeting the queen, Thalapathy later turns out to be responsible for the deaths of Marudheeran’s family, forcing Marudheeran’s father to kill himself in exchange for sparing an entire village, only to have Marudheeran’s mother and the village executed anyways. Enforcing the Kanya Puja ritual yearly to maintain his control over the queen, which involves having a young maiden being dropped into a burning pyre alive, Thalapathy would maintain his reign of terror for eighteen years, until he later decide to betray and kill the queen once she is no longer of any use to him. Even after being killed by Marudheeran, Thalapathy would transfer his will into Queen Yavanarani and erase every remaining element of purity in the queen’s heart, gloating that with Thalapathy’s death, the queen will become an even worse tyrant that before.
yes to the evil boy-genius, all grown up

'Yes' to the Blade trio, fanfic!Adam, and Talapathy
Alright, here's one I only recently watched for the first time, the movie that one of my favorites serves as a Spiritual Successor to...
What's the work?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a 2005 dark-comedy/buddy cop crime movie directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr., Val Kilmer and Michelle Monaghan.
Following career thief Harry Lockhart (Downey Jr) as he stumbles onto the Hollywood scene following a freak accident and case of mistaking him as a method actor, Harry teams with childhood crush Harmony Lane (Monaghan) and private detective "Gay" Perry van Shrike (Kilmer) in solving a series of murders, kidnappings and other strange happenings across Los Angeles.
Who is Harlan Dexter? What has he done?
A former actor-turned wealthy Hollywood mogul with his hands in various cookie jars, Harlan Dexter met issues when his wife died and his estranged daughter Veronica sought to sue him for her inheritance which Dexter had claimed for himself. Refusing to lose millions to his daughter and going so far as to call her the "C" word in public, Dexter eventually used his past and knowledge of crime noir stories to concoct a diabolical plan.
Kidnapping Veronica and forcibly imprisoning her in a mental institution of he owns, Dexter replaces her in the public eye with a lookalike by the name of Mia Frye, who Dexter simultaneously has sexual relations with. Using Mia to masquerade as Veronica and call off the case of suing, Dexter reaches a snag when Veronica's boyfriend is scheduled to visit her. And so, to ensure her boyfriend won't recognize the truth that Mia is masquerading as Veronica, Dexter promptly murders Veronica and tries to dump her body in a lake.
When Harry and Perry stumble onto the scene, Dexter switches plans, taking Veronica's corpse and dumping it in Harry's hotel room in an attempt to frame him for the crime. When this fails, Dexter sends his goons to beat and terrorize Harry into ending his snooping before they try to murder Perry. And when Mia herself begins expressing doubts due to the rising rapsheet Dexter is getting up to, he heartlessly has his lover executed. Dexter then plans to cremate Veronica's body before the public eye sees it and Dexter's full extent of deceit is revealed.
Later capturing Harry and Perry, Dexter has Harry viciously tortured via jumper cables and electricity to his testicles, Dexter planning to have both of the men tortured for information before killing them. And when Harmony steps in to help our heroes, Dexter tries to have her killed, too.
Dexter is eventually shot by Harry in a last gunfight, with Dexter so amazed at Harry's knack for surviving and actually fatally wounding him that his last words are nothing but "Captain fucking magic...", leaving our barely-surviving leads to recover Veronica's body and reveal the truth of Dexter's villainy to the world.
Freudian Excuse or other redeeming features?
Nada, he doesn't talk of his dead wife except in reference to her inheritance, and he obviously has zero care for his own daughter. He's just a greedy, perverted creep.
Heinousness?
He's not gonna be in anyone's "CM of the year" categories, but tbh I think he does just enough to pass. He committed his daughter to a mental institution for months before murdering her, he had a creepy sexual relationship with her doppelganger that ended with him executing her, too, and he tries to kill Harry, Perry and Harmony, subjecting the first two to nasty torture via electrocuting of the groin first and foremost.
Forcible committing at a mental institution, two murders and 3 attempted wouldn't normally inspire all that much confidence in me, but I think the fact that one of his victims was his daughter, one his lover, and the fact that he subjects Harry to horrible torture—planning the same for Perry—is pretty damn brutal even for a smaller-rapsheet.
Final Verdict?
It's weaker, but I do think he passes.

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!Electric Torture to the nuts is honestly the only thing I think is knocking him all the way over, but yeah, yes to Dexter. He's just over the baseline for a crime movie.
Yes to Dexter.
Am I good to add the Herc-Xenaverse header now or not? No one has objected, but I want to be sure.

For Titansverse, keep it as it is until something gets done. If they split the pages, then we can split the entries accordingly.
Yes to Talapathy
