During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Once upon a time I read the Scribblenauts comic and disagreed with the Anti-Monitor because consensus was back then he was a GDV. We've since agreed otherwise on his primary incarnation and I can reliably say from memory the Anti-Monitor in Scribblenauts is pretty much the exact same as his main counterpart.
I'm saying yes to this version of Brainiac under a similar clause. If nobody else wants to I'd be happy to cover the Anti-Monitor; it'd be a very basic post.
As to the query as whether or not Scribblenauts is like Drawn to Life—barring accidental and usually morbidly hilarious Fridge Horror that comes from delving too deep into the game's "create anything" system, no. Everyone who's a qualifier here was an Omnicidal Maniac in the original canon .
My EP on Anti-Monitor was entirely contigent on "if nobody else wanted to do him first." With my encouragement, and preemptive yes—Anti-Monitor's all yours.

Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
Okay, so I am guessing nothing mitigating pops up about Brainiac here, so I’ll say
unless Powermaster brings anything up.
So, I actually have a candidate I am thinking of, but there is something I want to get out of the way. She’s a human-turned-demon who is definitely heinous enough, but she also refers to her fellow demons as her “friends” like three times. Thing is, we don’t see her interact with them, and I actually spoke to the creator on Discord who confirmed that her “friends” are basically just followers and aren’t genuine friends, so there is no genuine affection there. I know that we are not supposed to rely on Word of God, but is clearing up a little detail like this okay? If it helps, in the work she flat-out says, word-for-word, that “love doesn’t exist”, further supporting the idea that she doesn’t actually care for her fellow demons.
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.I'm gonna abstain on Brainiac until we get more clarity on this potential mitigating factor.
So the next Dead by Daylight chapter just got announced - it's a crossover with Resident Evil. Hope no one minds if I take that.
Of course the killer will most likely be some kind of bioweapon, but just in case it's Wesker or something.
As for
, I'd be willing to hear it out. If she's calling them friend but doesn't believe that love exists, then even disregarding Word of God on the subject I'd be inclined to disregard it.

Tentative
to Brainiac reading Scraggle’s argument. (Also looking forward to his ep on Anti-Monitor)

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffWould also like Braniac's comic representation before voting.
Cut Dark Danny.
Uh... I think that's it on things that need my input? Also RIP Helen Mc Crory, Narcissa is the secret Harry Potter MVP.
"Y'know, if I had even an ounce of human emotion left in me this would be a touching reunion. But of course, I surrendered that human half a long time ago."
That in and of itself seems more like Card-Carrying Villain than lack of agency. The other stuff though...yeah, Dark Danny seems like a cut.
Cut Dark Danny and
Brainiac (even the Even Evil Has Standards things from the comic doesn't sound that mitigating if it's just that Brainiac has a self-justifying rationale for being an Omnicidal Maniac while Anti-Monitor doesn't.)
May also have my own fairly surprising candidate to propose later.

There recently was one character in Spongebob Comics who came close to qualifying, but everything in Spongebob ultimately gets shrugged off and taken lightly too much for anyone to actually stick a landing in a trope like this.

to Dark Danny (never thought I'd say this).
to Brainiac. Like, holy shit, first Shrek gets a CM, and now Scribblenauts? What's next, SpongeBob SquarePants?!

Cut Dark Danny
If anyone in Danny Phantom should a Complete Monster, it's obviously the Box Ghost.
