During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

- Roblox: DIAM0NDEYES from "The Smiles Family" crashed on Earth before the dinosaurs and for an unknown amount of time, corrupted humans into killing other humans. In 1936, she convinced Lloyd Joe that she can bring back his dead brother Roy if he kills 50 people in a mansion, and after Lloyd did it, DIAM0NDEYES revived Roy, but then corrupted both him and Lloyd into her minions. Present day, she repeatedly tries and fails to manipulate Albert into killing the children of the Smiles Family. After Robert Smiles refuses to murder someone, DIAM0NDEYES corrupts and makes Robert kill himself, using his corpse as another minion. After killing her brother, kidnapping the children herself and trapping them inside a staff, DIAM0NDEYES reveals her plans to tear Earth into pieces and then pulls one last unsuccessful attempt at making Albert kill the children, this time making them fall into a pit that would erase them from existence.
Is it from Roblox itself, or is it from a fanwork, or what? Looking it up, I'm a BIT unclear on what, exactly, it IS.
I...guess it goes to the main video game page then? I'll link to this

Just removed an unapproved entry from YMMV.Snarled.
- Complete Monster:
- Lady Blanca
: It's one thing when the grandmother in the story is abusive to her granddaughters by starving them and badmouthing them. But as the story progresses, we learn she's far more mean-spirited than that. It turns out she's a practitioner of black magic, meaning she sold her soul at one point. She used this power to curse her daughter-in-law and granddaughters, and we mean curse them. The curse attracts a malicious demon to haunt their dreams and eventually kill them. Yes, she would curse her grandchildren on the basis that they're related to their mother. And she tortured and sacrificed a mother cat and her innocent newborn kittens to invoke said-curse.
- Lady Blanca
There's something I need to inform you about relating to an existing entry
- Complete Monster: Charles "Uncle Charlie" Oakley is a seemingly affable and caring man who in actuality is a cold-blooded Serial Killer known as the "Merry Widow Murderer". Denouncing widows as "greedy, fat wheezing animals" who exploit their husbands' hard-earned wealth, Charles has strangled at least four women to death, stealing their fortunes for himself. When his niece discovers evidence of his dark secret, Charles sets about attempting to murder her, sabotaging a staircase to make her fall to her death, locking her in a garage with a running car to asphyxiate her, and ultimately attempting to throw her off a speeding train. A misanthropic maniac who has no remorse for his petty actions, Uncle Charlie stands out as one of the earliest, and most vile, depictions of a sociopath in film.
I had just came back from recently rewatching Shadow of a Doubt for myself, and I can tell you that not all of the information on here is true.
- Prior to the events of the film, Charles had murdered three women to death (all of them being wealthy widows, hence his nickname), while also stealing his latest victim's emerald ring. He's never seen (or mentioned) murdering another widow during the events of the film, so I don't think this point stands.
- Charles may have started up the car's engine (and removed the key) to have her breathe in the exhaust fumes, but he didn't lock his niece in the garage. Young Charlie just happened to be checking the car, but the garage doors closed on their own with her inside (and the door locks someone in regularly, according to them). If anything Y. Charlie locked herself inside the garage to her doom.
