During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

to the Uncle Rudi quote. Second time I saw the movie and that scene happened, that's when I began to suspect he counted.
Warthog said a while ago that he'd consider doing Ward Abbot from the first two Bourne movies. Anyone have any follow-up to that?
Also, I got a Truth or Dare DVD recently. I'll look into it at some point.
I’m sorry. I didn’t mean anything by it, I was just taking a shot at a trope I don’t like.
Check out my current fanfiction project.

Yes, please.
So, just saw the film. Eggman does not go beyond standard villainy, sadly, but things could change in a sequel (assuming there is one, and given the Sequel Hook, it is likely).
Now, I will just post this here one last time. Does anyone else think this would be a good quote for the CM quotes page?
- T-that monster...how many girls did Higashi pass around and abuse before she murdered him?—Detective Ayami Itō upon learning of Eiichi Higashi's physical, verbal, and sexual abuse of Reina, Tokyo Dark
I think that works better as a quote for You Monster!.
Agreed with Dragon. My last Hunters example now: Travis Leitch.
Who is Travis Leitch?
a well-trained young man who functions as the Nazi conspiracy's cleaner and button man. Leitch is a revolting enforcer for the group who opens up, seen in a bath when he gets a call from a Nazi who murdered his family and their guests when one of them recognized him. Leitch cleans it up quickly...and then goes to visit a politician who isn't playing ball with the Nazis. Leitch brutalizes his companions and informs the man he visited his young son. If he doesn't play ball? Leitch will slit the boy's throat and kill the rest of his family.
A pretentious, bloviating, sadistic prick, Leitch gets on the trail of the Hunters...tracking down others and slaughtering everyone else in the way. And torture, Leitch loves torture. In one incident, he takes a cop and his family, wife and pregnant daughter...he plays a game by torturing the man's family until he talks. Leitch then murders all of them and on his way out...spitefully shoots a flamingo on the lawn. Later tracking down Jonah to his friend who owns a comic shop, Leitch murders the friend, leaving an enormous trail of bodies along the way.
As Jonah gets closer to hunting Leitch down, Leitch also starts a riot by killing New York's power grid, triggering the Nazi strategy to create an all-white nation: the riots begin, the Nazis set bombs, which kill one of the Hunters when he tries to disarm it, and chaos reigns with murders going off to rip the city apart. Jonah finds Leitch and beats him down, but stops short of killing him, deciding instead to turn him over. Leitch is visited in jail by his horrified parents and tearfully says he wants to reform, begging them to get him a good, Jewish lawyer...
.....except Leitch has no intentions of reforming. He wants to stay in prison to forge the white gangs and prisoners into an army to cleanse the streets. When his lawyer arrives, Leitch stabs him to death as a statement. Last we see of him is triumphantly screaming "Jews will not replace us" to a mob of prisoners as the guards subdue him.
Heinousness?
Torture, murder and loads more. Leitch is one of the single most important cogs in the Nazis machine, the one making everything happen. He tortures and kills tons of people, has no compunction murdering children, gets really personal and facilitates a potential massacre and terrorist bombings over the course of New York so that he can help lead out a mass-gassing all to create an all-white ethnostate.
Mitigating Qualities?
Leitch is a sadistic, arrogant fucker with no good qualities at all. Compounding this? His parents are completely ordinary people absolutely horrified at their son. Leitch breaks down in tears with them, begging for help...only to reveal this is a pure act to manipulate them to get a Jewish lawyer so he can murder the man. Everything Leitch does is for his sadistic racism.
Conclusion?
A firm keeper.

Leitch.
Will take quote to You Monster!
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.
Leitch. And "Jews will not replace us
"? Had to be deliberate.
I assume "The Colonel" Spoiler is on watch list for season 2?

I'm heading over to my grandparents tonight for dinner and a movie, hopefully one from my to-do list.
Assuming I find one of said movies, I will report my findings later tonight or tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.
