During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Are we sure ricard counts their.
This is what's on the main page
- Henry VI Part 2 shows how Richard, son of the Duke of York (the future Richard III), started out as an earnest (if slightly obsessed) young man, and how he gradually turned into the villain we see in his respective play; his home is destroyed, his father and younger brother are gruesomely killed in front of him, he constantly has to watch his older brothers screw up or betray each other while failing to properly avenge their family, and every setback causes him to lose more faith in just about everything. His hunched back and withered arm, and the subsequent taunting he gets because of them, don't help
- Tragic Villain: The series plus adds a lot of emphasis in how Richard Used to Be a Sweet Child in Henry VI Part 2, so when we see him in full cackling villainy in Richard III, there's a sense of tragedy to it. In one of his last monologues in Part 2, he also muses about happiness, and nearly breaks in tears when he observes his deformity robs him of all joy in life except his cruelty and ambition.

True. We also have the various CMs from Harry Potter there, from the books and the films.

"I'll show you the Dark Side." CM actors and killsContuining the chthulu antholgies. We really hit the jackpot. One anthology (not related to the one Im doing in this post) may even have more then Kthula reich which is in the lead.
So Scraggs handled Coyle from Steampunk Cthulhu. So here's mine from the same anthology. From "Fall of an empire" by Glynn Owen Barass and Brian M. Vaughn.
Who are Lord Havendish and his Entity?
The story begins with a thief trrying to steal a book from Havendish on a mssion from her superior. Havendish finds her out and reveals that the book has allowed to summon his master, a sadistic, intelligent Eldtrich horror called the entity which attempts to consume here but she jumps out of the window before it could.
Havendish and the entity soon Mind Rape Queen Victoria into a submissive slave and convert the British empire into a more of their liking. They create death camps around the country and round up thsounds of immigrants, the poor, infirm or just citziens that the empire doesnt need. Once their, their used as food by the entity, have their minds destroyed, or are muttilated and used to form soliders which the entity and Havendish use to control the military. The entity inetnds to marry Victoria to solidify its rule which will spread his empire acorss the world.
A member of the military though called Langston whose wife was killed by Havendish though has had enough and sets up a team to finally destroy the entity and Havendish to stop this bucthery and madness. They intned to bring the empire down considering what it has become. They inflitrate the wedding, the entity and Havendish are smart enough to keep moving to ensure no one catches them but te wedding is one of the only places its confirmed to be. The plan though to bomb it fails due to its shield (though its wekaned) and it commands the guests to kill them. Langston kills the entity using silver which is its weakspot through its weakned pyschic shields though at the cost of his own life.
The empire then falls But Havendish scheming reveals to himslef a few months later that well his master's form here was destroyed. he still has his true form behind the veil and when he recovers hes going to retrun him...untill the thief from the prolgue who was one of Langston's agents comes in. You see shed been driven insane by the entity hearing its voice but after its defeat she recovered and wanted to get revenge. Havendish is killed and the threat is neutrailsed for good.
Mitigating factors ?
They both share responibility for whats going on. Havendish being the dude who summoned him and helped guide him and the enity being the thing actually doing this stuff.
The entity is depcited as an intelligent, sadistic thing that can understand humanity just fine. He does seem anrgy for a moment when victoria is killed but thats only becuase his toy and ticket to being king got destroyed and considering how he turned into his obediant puppet their is nothing reseblimg a mitigating factor their.
Havendish is just a pyscho fanatic out to unleash his master on the world as well.
Heinous standard ?
Uh yep. Mind Rape, Death camps of thousands, Body Horror aplenty. These two are easily two of the nastiest villains Ive ever ep'd.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
to Havendish.
Speaking of, should we really count Vlad the Impaler and Dracula together for CM incarnations? Contrary to popular belief, there's no indication that Dracula was based on Vlad in particular, let alone that they're supposed to be the same person. The most that can be said is that there are some strong similarities between the two; it's possible that they were intentional on Stoker's part, but there are too many differences between them (they're not even the same ethnicity!) for him to have intended for Dracula to be Vlad as a vampire. Obviously, there are versions where they are one and the same, but I personally think it would be better to list their incarnations separately and make a note for when there's overlap.

XO: Hmm, good point. Maybe specify which ones are Drac, which are Vlad, and which are both? Come to think of it, while there are many Dracs who aren't Vlad, how many Vlads as a CM do we have who aren't Drac?
"Nyantrhlyph" Holy spellcheck fail
I wonder if Nyarly will join the 25+ club, occupied only by Drac/Vlad (27); Jack (31); Joker (40!); and Satan (44!!).
I'm now seriously starting to think we SHOULD make a page for the Mythos and related works, at least for Lit. Something like this:
Mythos itself
Lovecraft's worksOthers
- Y'gy
Anthologies
Other works
- "A True Telling of the Terror that Came to Red Hook" would go here.
Edited by ACW on Mar 3rd 2020 at 2:55:22 PM
Just keep them together. Honestly at this point its difficult to find a work where they arent the same guy (even fairly faitful books to the original book otherwise like shutter and Dracula's demter) use it.
That and as the dude who launched the page. I dont see why we need to be that specific.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
Another Eldritch Abomination & Psycho Supporter duo.
- The Fourth Reich, by Robert D. Van Kamper: President Nikolai Bulgakov, leader of the New United Empire and the Fourth Reich, is the second coming of The Antichrist as the cloned reincarnation of Adolf Hitler. Posing as an ambitious but honest politician seeking to unify the world, Bulgakov murdered several people from his early years and even caused a plane crash to kill a single writer, and considers inciting a Civil War in Russia to overthrow President Vladimir Katanov. Not satisfied with his position as Prime Minister, Bulgakov assassinates his friend and the man's disabled father to frame the double murder as a political act ordered by Katanov. After staging a successful coup by poisoning Katanov and assuming presidency, Bulgakov buys most of the world's grain supplies and allows nations to suffer with wars and famine to force more countries to join the NUE, blowing up the Vatican shortly after revealing his true identity to the world to retaliate against a Cardinal who opposed him. Now the dictator of his own One World Order, Bulgakov kills millions of people in a continuation of the Holocaust and televises the public execution of a resistance leader, his actions leading to a wave of disasters and diseases around the world in the form of divine judgement.

I think we should remove Slappy the Dummy from complete monster.
Who is Slappy?
Slappy is a dummy in the Goosebumps franchise. He often attempts to make people his slaves. Slappy however seemingly tries often to make girls his slaves but this is wrong. This is for the books not TV Show.
Why Slappy doesn't qualify?
Henious Standard alone. There are villains in the you choose books who can kill you outright. The Dark Falls residents were implied to suck people of their blood and kill them. King Jelly Jam killed people and Mr. Wood was worse than Slappy. Slappy only tried to kill one person once in "Slappy New Year". In "Slappys Nightmare" it was just a dream. Bride of the Living Dummy he threatened to hurt the kids not kill them as I have it with me as I'm typing. Slappy also assists the heroes in "The Streets of Panic Park and The Dummy Meets the Mummy". H also has attempted to make boys his slaves many times not just girls.
Final Verdict
I say he doesn't qualify.

Slappy is one of the most recurring of the Goosebumps antagonists; attempted murders frequently, and is more or less a pedophile. The other instances of you mentioning him helping the protagonists are primarily because of there being a bigger bad in the making that would enslave him. But also because those would be the mainline books you're referencing. There are more series beyond the original 60+ books.
Uh...I have read Bride, and Slappy grabs the birthday boy by the neck and outright threatens to kill them.

Any other opinions on whether or not Richard III from ‘’The Hollow Crown’’ counts, from the discussion at the top of this page?

"I'll show you the Dark Side." CM actors and kills

Question for the C Ms By Actor sandbox: did we decide that Benedict Cumberbatch's version of Richard III from The Hollow Crown was a CM? Or was he not much different from his original counterpart from the play?
