During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Anyway, number one....
What's the setting?
Mir recommended me a comic miniseries called Bram Stoker's Death Ship: The Last Voyage of the Demeter, an IDW comic miniseries based very much off the opening to the original Dracula. The Demeter is commanded by a steadfast captain over a raging storm, from Transylvania to England...but the ship, of course, is carrying more than just the crew.
Sneaking aboard is a ravenous vampire—the "Upyr", all but explicitly stated to be Dracula himself.
Who is "the Upyr?" What has he done?
An inhuman beast with a surprising capacity for intelligence, Drac sneaks onto the Demeter as she leaves Transylvania, en route to England for a free buffet. Drac, through the long voyage, feeds on the Demeter's crew, gunning even for the little boy aboard the ship.
In a fairly unique touch for any incarnation of Drac, this iteration has something of a tendency to fuck around with the heads of his victims first before it goes for the kill. The Upyr uses these powers to lure away victims with images of their loved ones—luring away a man with the image of his son before killing him, and luring away the ship's second mate before turning him into what can be generously described as a vortex of blood—until it's massacred all but three members of the crew. Drac torments one of the survivors by assuming the form of his abusive father and telling the crewman his entire life has been a waste before killing him.
The skipper and the cabin boy, the only two survivors at this point, have been driven all but mad. Before Drac can even kill the boy, the cabin boy takes his chances with the waves in a fit of paranoid fright and ends up washed away, which cues Drac to home in on the captain in the form of his beloved. The captain fights off Drac and comes to England with his life...but comatose, as Drac curses him to "dream forever" as he comes onto England's shores to begin his hunt...
Any mitigating factors?
Nope. Drac is as eloquently sadistic a beast as ever despite his fairly limited screentime, and his low body count is offset by this incarnation's love for Mind Rape.
Conclusion?
Keeper.
Question: has the Rat King been discussed? I know the movie he's from is godawful, and I'm not saying anyone should subject themselves to it, but considering the blatant Holocaust parallels (involving toys, yes, but it's explicitly said that "all dolls are alive"), I think he might have a decent shot at qualifying. Then again, I haven't actually seen the movie, so maybe there's something I don't know about.
to Upper. You know what I'll just switch to keeping Cy (albeit a very reluctant). Also, if Cy is present worse than Floyd, I'd vote on cutting Floyd.
Anywho, here's my write-up for Irons.
- Resident Evil fanfic Epic: The Third Survivor: Brian Irons is just as horribly depraved here as he was in canon. The Chief of Raccoon City's Police Department, Irons would allow the Umbrella Corporation to conduct their experiments on the city's citizens, on the pretense that Umbrella would get him elected mayor. During the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City, Irons kidnaps the mayor's daughter and brutally rapes her before shooting her at her stomach, causing her to bleed to death; It would later be revealed that Irons has raped and killed numerous other women beforehand and would convert their bodies into stuffed dolls before putting them in his hidden room as part of Irons' morbid collection.

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffMaybe I should make a Swan Lake adaptation where Rothbart's a Josef Stalin knockoff and Nikola Tesla is one of Siegfried's tutors.

This is true. Though according to this
it's only him, her, and his son, so I don't know how many henchmen he has.
And in case someone wants to make the argument he's worse than Lucy and has fewer associates...I thought the same thing, and while yeah, maybe? Lucy has the Decoy Damsel thing, AND Human Trafficking is surprisingly rare on the show. You've got Alex and his ring, Lucy and her ring, McGregor, and some lady in flashbacks.
