During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

to Addie Hitler, Landis Pope and Brian Irons.
to Magneto.
That's a point about Landis's Omnicidal goals not necessarily being SUPER-unique, but from the EP it seems like he's still worse than, say, 90% of the baddies (Lighty/Scraggle feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).
As for Before Watchmen...I think I asked about that and was told that's where they should go. It's odd, with the whole Canon Welding of Watchmen and the DCU.
Actually the main dcu and watchmen aren't welded together. The events of that the crossover that doomsday clock and dc rebirth promised take place in a different alternate dc universe.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."I,dunno it's weird. Doomsday clock originally promised that watchmen and the main dc universe would crossover but they ended up going back on that in the end and declaring the story to be in an alternate verse.
This leaves dc rebirth in a weird limbo. Where parts of post crisis and new 52 are Canon to it...but were not sure how much and since watchmen stuff took place in another alternate verse we never find out now why that's true.
Dc just really like making their continuity dysfunctional it seems.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Okay. DC continuity gives me a headache everytime I try to figure it out.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadDC continuity is a nightmare. Marvel, on the other hand, while it can be confusing on occasion (like, say, The Maker and Lord Mar-Vell crossing over to Earth-616), is MUCH simpler: Either Earth-616; a version of Earth-616; or a totally separate continuity.
Scraggle, you're the DC continuity expert here: Keep Before Watchmen in Post-Crisis; keep it on the page but move it to Other Continuities; or just move it to the main Comic Books page?

Dc pretty much run on retcons at this point.
They've promised their new series death metal will Fix stuff finally but they promised the same for doomsday clock before that and dc rebirth before that and convegance before that and infinite crisis before that and zero crisis before that all the way back to criss of infinite earths. So don't hold your breath that will fix things.
Edit: Yeah marvel has never rebooted in their entire run as a company which makes things simpler. When stuff gets snarled they simply ignore it and move on which is much better then trying to fix it only to dig yourself deeper in Tue hole that dc has done.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Okay is it just me or is this write up a little wonky.
- Stoker: We are introduced to Uncle Charlie Stoker after the death of heroine India's father. Initially charming and charismatic, Charlie kills the house's caretaker, and then his own aunt after he believes she'll expose him for what he is: A murderer who buried his younger brother alive when he was younger. He even killed his own brother, India's father, and staged his "car accident." He later tries to seduce India and tries to kill her mother.
Now I have never seen the movie, so I don't know if he does more, but it just seems a little wonky reading it or at least the first sentence is all.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHere is my writeup for the Witch:
X-Men Fairy Tales: The Witch from the third issue is a powerful being, who terrorized the lands, before people managed to kill her. Resurrecting herself in the form of Burning Phoenix, The Witch possessed the red haired princess, using her as a host to try to conquer the kingdom and slaughter countless people, who tried to stop her. After the knight, who was in love with princess, managed to defeat her, The Witch fall in eternal sleep along with the princess. When she managed to awaken within the princess many years later, after the princess was found by the Tailor, The Witch escaped, promising to "double her wrath upon the land". Killing the former knight, who previously imprisoned her, The Witch desired to kill the Tailor as well, resulting in the princess convincing the Tailor to kill her, to end her threat once and for all.

Btw for this part. He even killed his own brother, India's father, and staged his "car accident."
Doesn't Tue previous line say he killed his brother by burning him alive. Why does it say he even when he's already apparently killed one of his siblings already
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Sorry to be a Single-Issue Wonk, but I wanna just get this finished: What's the consensus for Cy and Floyd?
And if we keep Cy, everyone okay adding this
to the main image page?
Nope, if we cut Cy, I'll be proposing the image for the Criminal Minds page. If we keep him, I'll propose it for the main image page.
