Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Complete Monster Cleanup Thread

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I wanted to make a few edits to some Write Ups in order to make them look better.

Original

  • The Web Andrew Colby is a Corrupt Corporate Executive who embezzled a million dollars from his company. Tricking an associate into taking the rap, he left the guy imprisoned for five years while he built a business empire off the dough. When his associate got out, Colby decided to weasel his way out of their deal by arranging things so his bodyguard, Bob Regan, would kill the man in apparent defense of his boss. As Regan investigates, it's learned that Colby killed the engraver he had counterfeit the stolen money killed at the time of his original scheme. Deciding Regan has come too close to exposing his crimes, he kills his henchman and has Regan and his Love Interest framed for the murder. When deceived into thinking his victim is alive, he tries to strangle him himself before being caught by the police.

New (wanted to fix a grammar error and make the last sentence flow a bit better)

  • Unfriended: Dark Web: "Charon IV" is a member of the Circle, a group of sadistic hackers who prey on innocents for their own amusement. Charon IV spends his time stalking and spying on potential victims using surveillance and web cameras. After other members of the Circle see video footage of the victims, Charon IV kidnaps, tortures, and eventually kills the victims upon the members' requests, filming himself committing the murders. In order to prevent interference from law enforcement, the Circle conspire to frame Matias and his friends for the various murders they committed. Charon IV leaves his laptop for Matias to find, and later threatens to kill Matias's girlfriend, Amaya, if he doesn't give the laptop back. Despite being complicit in the Circle's schemes, Charon IV continues to act as though the Circle will kill him along with Matias's friends for not complying with his demands. After Matias and his friends are all killed and framed for Charon IV's murders, Amaya is kidnapped, implying that the Circle and Charon IV will continue torturing and murdering people

New (the sentence I cut feels very redundant and doesn't add anything to the entry)

Also there have been a ton of unapproved edits to Charon's entry on the YMMV page so I'm going to fix them after a decision is made on my proposed edit.

[tup]Kruger

Since he was approved, here is Rat'Lar's writeup:

Superman vs. Muhammad Ali: Rat'Lar is the emperor of Scrubb race, who one day saw Earth and humanity as a threat to his future rule due to the fear that humanity might one day become more powerful than his empire. Convincing his people through lies that humanity are cruel savages, Rat'Lar leads his army to Earth and arrives at the planet, demanding that Earth's greatest champion faces his own Scrubb champion or else he would destroy Earth. Ordering a strike on St. Louis for the "offense" of Superman and Ali attacking him, with Superman barely being able to save the city, Rat'Lar choses Ali and Superman as Earth's champions, later having them fight to decide which one of them will face his champion. When Ali manages to beat his champion, Rat'Lar decides to destroy Earth anyway, openly planning to force all humans on his ships to watch as he destroys their planet and kills off the rest of humanity.

[tdown]to Barret.

Haven’t played any of the Division games but from what I’ve heard the second game has a group called the Hyenas, who are lead by a council who are just as worse as the Rikers. There’s also another faction that wants to spread the virus as revenge for being mistreated while being quarantined. And the Cleaners themselves sound pretty bad, too, killing people indiscriminately in an attempt to stop the virus.

Of course, that’s just what I’ve heard. I would appreciate it, if someone who has played the second game could explain how Barret compares to these villains.

Wary: I've made the request to cut Aerys. The mods haven't gotten to it yet. Hell, they've not even gotten to the batch yet.

Draxterrus: Got it.

Papyru: Those work. Please add to the Drafts.

[tup] Dante (might wanna see if you can shorten the EP any); Larae (I guess the question is whether he's a Knight Templar or a Thanos-esque WIE); Krueger; Matriarch.

Slightly more hesitant yes to Galactus.

ACW: The WIE character I mentioned is a completely different character than Barrett.

Also looking up the Hyena's in the second game, they don't seem as organized as the Rikers; they where led by a council that harley held things together, while the Riker's where led by one person, so I don't know if a comparison really holds up. Of course they can't be compared to those who want to spread the virus, as none of them have access to the virus; tthe arsonists are setting fire to whereever they think see the virus yes, but the Riker's niche wantonly torturing and murdering innocent people for literally no reason than to spread misery. It's also heavily implied that out of all the factions the Riker's where the ones who broke New York's vackbone.

[tup] to Larae Barrett, Freddy Krueger, Galactus and Matriarch.

Falcontalons: Generally in mainstream comics Galactus is presented more akin to a natural disaster than a villain (usually). Its not his fault he has to devour planets to survive and if he dies it will unleash the much worse entities he keeps in check. He's not cruel and holds no animosity to inhabitants of the planets never interfering with their efforts to escape, and generally when defeated he takes it in stride and just goes look for something else to eat.

[up] Glad to see you back Bullman, sorry its because of this.

Okay, so it's the 23rd. Been two weeks since the Series Fauxnale of Power ended.

No one counts. Almost every villainous character has a redeeming quality or they fail the heinous standard. Kanan Stark is a ruthless gangster, but ultimately forms a bond with Tariq and even helps him escape his kidnapper in Season 4. Someone told me via PM that Milan is a cannibal, but these are only rumors. We don't see him going around kidnapping people and chopping them up so he can feed on their flesh. So he doesn't count either.

Like I said over in the MB forum, I'm in the process of rewatching the series because there's a possible MB candidate, and I wanna get all the details first before doing an EP. If I come across a potential CM, I'll do an EP. But besides Milan (who appears in Season 3, which I just started rewatching) there's no other contenders.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.
