Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

[up] Welcome to the thread. Two things to keep in mind:

1. You have to wait two weeks to submit a candidate.

2. If you want us to consider your candidate, you have to submit an effort post.

Found and deleted this off the Deadpool 2 ymmv page.

  • Complete Monster: The orphanage headmaster is a cruel Essex Corp member, who tortured helpless mutant children under his supervision, possibly for years on end, just for being mutants, including Russell. He also claims that torturing the children is his method of curing them, and preaching how they're abominations. Even after X-Force prevents Russel from killing him, which would've created the Bad Future where Russel grew up to kill Cable's family, the headmaster continues his vicious anti-mutant ranting towards Russell and X-Force. Among Deadpool's cast of villains, few have ever been as heartless and cruel as the headmaster.

Has anyone seen the Deadpool 2 director's cut? Apparently more of the Headmaster's villainy is seen there.

Haven't seen it in a while; the only thing I remember is that Deadpool has a whole suicide montage early in the film.

Another EP based on Devilman

What's the work?

Devilman by Mitsuru Hiruta is a 16 chapter manga from 1972, which is based on Toei Devilman anime series, which aired at the same time. Having the same "Monster of the Week" structure, to the point that chapters named after monsters, which are villains of the chapter, it follows the same plot of Devilman fighting off Zennon's demons, as Zennon plans to take over Earth and wipe out humanity. The main difference between this and anime is the fact that Akira still lives here, as he was not killed by Devilman and manage to conquer him and obtain his powers, when Devilman fused with him.

My candidate is one of one shot villains of the manga and the only one who is not connected to Zennon at all and works for himself - the winged demon Kentos.

Who is Kentos?

The winged demon, who lives in his own pocket dimension, Kentos decides to kidnap as many humans as he can by sending his feathers around the world and transforming them into beautiful necklaces. As soon as any human would put them on, their head will be transported into his pocket dimension of darkness, while their body would remain on Earth. Both body and head remain still alive, but victims can't remove their necklaces. As they trapped in Kentos' world and countless more heads coming, Kentos gleefully announces his intention of transporting the heads of all humans in the world to his pocket dimension, where he could torture them for eternity, like carving their eyes out, carving out their noses or tearing off mouths. Before he could start torture and mutilate the humans that were transported to him Akira managed to get to his world in his Devilman form through one of his necklaces, due to him searching for Miki's younger brother Kensaku Makimura, whose head was also stolen. Arriving to Kentos' dimension, Akira battled him and kill him, freeing all the humans from his curse and saving them from torment.

Heinousness?

This manga has a lower heinous standard, due to the fact that there are fewer demons around and most of them are not as heinous as they were in TV series, where they killed hundreds. Most of the demons in this manga only try to kill Devilman on Zennon's orders, killing few people along the way. Those who stand out managed to kill a few dozen before Devilman killed them, Zennon himself here is really Orcus on His Throne, rarely doing anything other than ordering his minions to kill Devilman, with only stand out order being ordering Dremoon to flood the coasts of Japan and try to kill all humans with moon's gravity (which he also did in the series too, but there he was more involved with the plot and initiated much more genocidal plots and display more personal cruelty). And although all demons love to kill humans, sometimes sadistically, Kentos is the only one who has such a wide scale of stealing all the humans from the world, just to torture them for as long as he likes. He is also stand out being one of two demons, who don't work for Zennon (the other demon only killed a dozen people, before Devilman killed her).

Mitigating Qualities?

None. He doesn't even have any loyalty to Zennon (unlike literally 90% of other demons), as he doesn't work for him and barely acknowledge his existence.

Conclusion?

What do you think?

[tup] Kentos, the Freshmaker

Alright, time for another song candidate.

What Is the Work?

Exodus is a band that has been covered on this thread before with their song “BTK”. Well wouldn’t you know it, they have another song about a serial killer. A duo this time.

The Ballad of Leonard and Charles” (Lyrics here) is a song from their 2010 album Exhibit B: The Human Condition.

Who Are They?

Leonard Lake and Charles Ng are a pair of (real life btw) serial killers who enjoy murdering, torturing, and raping innocents in their small cabin hideout.

What have they done?

Described by the song as “Lecherous inhuman monsters” who “turned a small town in northern California, into the haunt of the damned, devoid of all comprehension,” Leonard and Charles kidnap, rape, torture, and murder women, while also killing children on the side, all to please their sadism. They even film their murders, getting aroused at their victims’ cries as they break not only their souls, but also their minds. Once the murders happen, the two chuck the bodies down a hole close by their cabin.

Once the two are finally caught and arrested, Leonard commits suicide via a hidden cyanide pill. Charles, meanwhile, laughs at the crimes he’s committed, not a care in the world for all the pain he or his partner had sowed.

Redeeming Qualities?

Zilch. Leonard and Charles show no care for each other.

Heinousness?

Rapists, murderers, sadists, child killers… need I say more?

Conclusion

Easy keeps
