During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Yes to Priscilla.
Hey I'm not going be here today and maybe tomorrow. As I have a really bad cold.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadBy the way for Monster.Sherlock Holmes. Could we change the tree since we know have examples from two books in the gaslight series.
Change it to this.
Gaslight Series
- Gaslight Grimoire: Fantastic Tales of Sherlock Holmes:
- "His Last Arrow", by Christopher Sequeira: Sherlock Holmes
- "Merridew of Abominable Memory", by Chris Roberson: Phipps
- Gaslight Grotesque: Nightmare Tales of Sherlock Holmes:
- The Best Laid Plans" by Robert Lauderdale: Moriarty (Mir)
- "The Hand-Delivered Letter", by Simon Kurt Unsworth: Moriarty (Lighty)
What do you think ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yeah, I first noticed it when tweaking the Life is Strange fanfics. I guess now you can put the italics in the AC stuff.

Yeah, just needs one AC now.

Also, I just made a page for Life has No Meaning Without You, so please add the Mark Jefferson example onto the page, and maybe ask that the entry on Monster.Fan Works be remade to link to the page.

What's the work?
Endless Night is a novel by Richard Laymon. Jody is a normal teenager staying over her friend Evelyn's, with Evelyn's parents and her 12 year old brother Andy who has a huge crush on Jody. Then...the home is invaded, Evelyn and her family are killed with Jody barely escaping with Andy, fleeing with her family.
But the man responsible for the attack, Simon Quirt? Becomes obsessed with Jody and doesn't want to give up hunting her down and finishing the job before his gang decides he's failed them.
Who is Simon Quirt?
Simon is a member of the Killer Kruls. As young men, the Kruls, Simon and several friend, led by their leader Tom, realized they were total psychopaths with a shared interest in rape and murder. Focusing on a girl they all hated named Hester, the group raped her, tortured her and murdered her before concealing the body. They grew up, occasionally raping and murdering others as they found them appealing and brought in more guys to the group, occasionally murdering them when they felt they couldn't trust them, or those who failed....now Simon's failed, so he's in trouble, and he fears his 'friends' will go after his fiancee Lisa, or his sisters. Now, he's got upset about them as people. More on this later.
Having murdered Evelyn and her family, he begins to track down Jody. Ambushing a woman named Hillary, Simon tortures, rapes and murders her. He then kills several men along the way for cars and other supplies...and forms a depraved obsession with Jody, fantasizing constantly about raping and murdering her, along with his previous trophies. Turns out that Simon and the guys had graduated to hitting families in a multitude of other places, killing children, women and men, with loads of torture and rape. When he's visited by two of his friends, Simon realizes he's not getting away with the 'failure' and kills two of his old friends, deciding to hit the rest before they can go after him. Ambushing them, he wipes out the entire gang and even kills his fiancee Lisa for good measure.
With several more serial killings along the way, Simon hunts down Jody and attacks her, gunning her father down and preparing to torture and rape her. Andy manages to hold him at gunpoint, but freezes up as Simon tries to convince him to act on his lust for Jody, and to rape her with Simon before becoming Simon's partner. Simon is shot by Andy, but non-fatally, and furiously attacks and kills Andy before returning to try to rape Jody.
Thankfully, her father is still alive...and has retrieved his own gun, holding it on Simon who tries to beg for his life before he's executed.
Heinousness?
In spades. Simon is a serial rapist/torturer/murderer with an enormous bodycount and proves that he's the worst of the gang. Despite the actions of the others, he turns on them and murders them (okay, not without reason, but still)...and rapes and murders in his own way across the state to hunt down Jody, while being a depraved killer in his spare time.
Mitigating Qualities?
His care for his friends is skin deep. They're just murderers on their own time and have a shared interest. Not only that, but his fiancee and sisters? When he imagines his friends have Lis abducted and are abusing her, he's annoyed about it...why? They should ask his permission first and likens it to a friend borrowing your car without asking you. He doesn't give a hint of a damn about his family, only that it's extra trouble for him, and he kills Lisa himself with no issue.
Conclusion?
It's been a while since I've seen it, but....Laymon Villain.

Simon.
Alright, now, since I am on a roll and already got two female CMs in a row, let me get these male ones out of the way.
What's the work?
Mai-HiME is a Magical Girl Genre Deconstruction anime. In it, Mai Tokiha and her group of schoolgirls become Himes, who along with their CHILDs (basically animal companions) must save the world from monsters called Orphans.
I will be discussing the anime version, which is different enough from the manga. So, here we go:
Who are the Obsidian Lord and Nagi Homura? What do they do?
These two are the Big Bad and The Dragon, respectively, in charge of the First District, the Nebulous Evil Organization that seeks to conquer Japan. The Obsidian Lord is a big alien eyeball assisted by his right-hand boy, Nagi. Sometime before the anime, Obsidian subjects Reito Kanzaki, the local Big Man on Campus, to Demonic Possession. Using this Earthly guise, he and Nagi go about with their plan.
Nagi introduces himself to the girls as a mentor of sorts, guiding them to battle against the Orphans (which he is actually creating behind their backs). But about halfway through the show, after fighting off a rival faction, he and Obsidian force them into the Hime Carnival- a Battle Royale in which the Himes must kill each other, one-by-one. Nagi directly manipulates the girls whenever possible to turn them against each other, and Obsidian-as-Reito does a bit of puppeteering of Mai herself, as she has a crush on Reito. The result of their manipulations is that several of the girls and their loved ones die, something which they take pleasure in. And the 'prize' awaiting the winner of the Carnival? Marriage to the Obsidian Lord.
They also manipulate the mysterious Mikoto, who is actually Reito's sister, into performing a Face–Heel Turn and joining them. Eventually, the final battle comes and they try to subjugate Mai and her actual Love Interest, Yuichi, but they are defeated and everyone comes back to life.
Heinousness?
Set it. They are responsible for every death and tragedy in the series, and Obsidian aims to destroy and remake the world. They arrange the battle so the anime lose their loved ones and eventually kill each other so he can gain power, and Nagi supports him wholeheartedly.
Mitigating Qualities?
For Obisidian, none. He is hands-off for much of the series, but when he does appear in the last quarter, he is every bit as bad as advertised. For Nagi, there is this weird scene where he leaves with the Big Good Mashiro, possibly implying he cares about her. But he then goes on to reappear in the sequel and completely invalidate that by attempting to destroy the world that Mashiro presumably made, so...
Verdict?
If anyone wants to watch the anime and confirm all this, please feel welcome do so, since it has been a while since I saw this (but I still sorta remember it all).
EDIT: Please see this post for further information before voting.

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.
Simon.
Speaking of Laymon, for The Beast House, the page mentions "a trio of the most despicable villains in horror". Now, we already have Roy up, but what about the other two (I'm guessing Gorman and Sandy?)?

Fuck it, if Scraggle's okay with it, keep the Alessa's Fantasies entries.
