Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I'm still not convinced Thailog stands out, especially compared to someone like King Duncan. But I guess this trope is YMMV for a reason.

[tup]to Richard, Perdo, and Jinmen and Cadney

[tdown]to Kamiya and the Tunnel Keeper.

I remember Amon was labeled as a CM but was cut for not being heinous enough. Though I haven’t read the manga myself did VVV made some valid points about Amon. Are we going to re-instigate Amon?

Also echoing miraculous questions does anyone new count in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?

Manga amon doesn't count. He cares about sirene .

We're discussioning his ova version.

So, I guess the question is, what continuity is OVA!Amon in, and do we use the heinous standard of demons from the canon works for the OVA?

Well, OVA has completely original plot in it's second half. First half is adaptation of last volumes of original manga. So i have no idea. I vote for no. Because of changes made to the story. So i will say only deeds of the demons from OVAs matter in this case.

I'm guessing ova sirene has her manga redeeming qualities.

There is no Devilman continuity where Sirene is heinous enough and sheds redeeming qualities. None.

Yeah. Sirene is always has redeeming qualities in her care for Kaim and having several more loved ones, depending on adaptation.

I figure as much.

But Vile did say that uh weirdly Jinmen and....sirene (that sounds so weird) are the most heinous demons in this ova.

So just decided to ask since I haven't seen it

In first two OVAs, Jinmen and Sirene are only demons who have bodycount. The only other demons are humans at Ryo's party, who turned into demons just to be slaughtered by Akira.

In Amon OVA, the only other being (aside from Amon), who shown to have a bodycount is Satan, who led the extermination of humanity.

That might make it easier for Amon to qualify.

BTW, since apparently Jinmen from the Hades thing will ALSO go to the Mazinger tree, I did some research:

Should Dr. Hell go at the end, and then Devilman vs. Hades Jinmen go at the very end after that?

Also looking forward to OVA Amon.

[tup] to Cadney. The fact that he helped start the worldwide witch hunts alone shoots him past the series baseline standard, since this makes him directly responsible for what is indicated to be the deaths of hundreds if not millions, including Miki Makimura. Add in his personal crimes, and I see no reason for him not to qualify.

Also, [tup] Sarah.

Okay be one suggested to me by miraculous.

What's the work?

Every Stolen Breath by English teacher Kimberly Gabriel is a teen crime that was recommend to me by miraculous. It fallows Lia Finch as she hunts for the group that killed her father, Steven, known as the Swarm. They have been operating in Chicago for elevan years. Managing to kill twelve publicly known people, including her father, before the events of the story. They operate on a system is that of a flash mob that gang up on a target, who has a connection to someone they send a message to. It's so kindly nicknamed a Death Mob. When she is put on their hit list, Lia tries to find the mysterious ring leader of the Swarm. The brains behind it isn't Mayor Henking, though he is implied to be involved, but his right hand man Richard.

Who is Richard Stewart?

Richard Stewart is Mayor Jim Henking's chief of staff, and the true mastermind behind the Swarm. He uses it to keep control of the city. The Swarm is formed in one of two ways either teens join willing or he blackmails them using information about their parent's illegal activities. He then sends them a message over Twitter with the date, time, and location. They had killed twelve known people this way. When they're at the location he has them gang up on the target and brutally beat them to death. When a teen refuses to cooraprate he releases the info he has and kills their parents. Such Bill Morrell, a member of the Lakefront Project he uses build over the wild lands and whose members children he either tried or succeeded in blackmailing. When his daughter Kellee refused to cooraprate, Richard set up as fall guy for the Swarm and made his death look like a suicide. When Lia's dad Steven, a prosecutor, got to close to the truth, Richard had him killed and the case dropped.

When Sydney Baker, a Lake Forest socialite, starts the Save the Parks Gala to stop the Lakefront Project, Richard has the son she gave up for adoption, Jeremiah Dopney killed by the Death Mob and frames a Latino gang for it. Richard then has Lia stalked and tormented for a month and a half. At one point having best friend, Adam killed infront of her to get her to stop investigating the Swarm. He then forces her to go to the Save the Parks Gala with mayor's son Cullen, under threat of killing her mother. When Lia pretends to be a Swarm member to get the location of the next attack, Richard purposely sends her the location later then anyone else. He does this so Lia will have to watch her love interest Ryan, who he forced to join. While Lia is able to record the attack through a live stream, she is seemingly to late to save Ryan. When Cullen takes Lia to his house, Richard shuts off the live stream and brags about all he has done. Before he can force Lia to cooperate, reporter Emi Vega arrives and gets away with Lia. Turns out Emi had been spying on them and recorded it. Last we see Richard he is being hauled off to jail.

Redeeming qualities?

Okay Richard seems nice before the reveal, but that's all an act. He says he is out for the betterment of the city, but he is in reality a massive control freak. He doesn't actually show any genuine care for the mayor, Cullen, or the Swarm. He also frames a Latino gang for nothing but racist beliefs.

Heinous standard?

Easily the worst in the story. While the mayor is hinted to b involved, it's clear the Swarm is his brain child. We only see three Swarm attacks, but that is enough to set a pattern. Plus he has Adam murdered for no reason, frames a gang, and forces several teenagers to kill people for him. As we see with Ryan and several of his friends either leave them scared for life or commiting suicide.

Conclusion?

Keep the bastard. Thanks again miraculous.
