During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@Fan fic CM: Mainly because those one get EP-ed. There are likely hundreds of canon CM counting on fics, but none of us read them (the only fanfic I follow is a personal drama based on a ship I like, for example)
Watch me destroying my country@ nrjxll, like I said, She-Ra is aimed at young girls just like MLP is, but its a franchise far more likely to Complete Monster in it.
Like if She-Ra fought Skeletor in a fanfic and Skeletor was pure evil in the fanfic and guilty of various vile deeds, everyone would fine with that, that would make sense. More sense than trying to make Twilight Sparkles or some other similar into a monster.
I have less of an issue with Gems Are Unbreakable, because Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure has several monsters and though Steven Universe does not, but a monster in the setting of that show would not seem that jarring, IMO.

@Overlord: I mean I got some up from Victorious fanfics. None of them were dark fics though. They were either AUs or crossovers with other works I like that already have one or two. Which are my favorite types of fanfics. Plus they all have a major romance plot with my OTP. But I would never EP on that was simply a Dark Fic because I find those bad.
However it could also be that some Canon CMs like Voldemort go through major leather pants in many fan works.

Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
Actually, ~The Immortal Angel Newton, I already proposed a header
. Also, I like mine more, because it highlights the contrast between the CMs in the series and the general trend in the series of having the antagonists be Anti Villains.
MasterN: I must have missed that one. Yeah I like yours better.

You see this is why I regret not finding this site sooner than a couple of years ago. As I had no idea that was a thing.
Btw, guys, sorry if I'm quite for a bit...dealing with a horrifically terrible flu that's also leaving me in a lot of pain. Last night was a horrible combination of aches, the worst migraine of my life and fucking insomnia. Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread- Kim Possible:
- Bonnie's Curse Series
: Monkey Fist is the Big Bad of Bonnie's Curse and Redemption, and proves much darker than his canon self. After that, he has Fukushima kidnap an unnamed scientist and forces him to recreate the amplifier, then orders Fukushima to kill him and his family (children included). He kills Sensei in order to use his blood for a ritual in order to channel the magical power into himself, then kills Fukushima and goes on a rampage throughout Europe, demanding to be made supreme ruler and killing over 12,000 people. Check out my current fanfiction project.Feel better Lighty.
Looking at that Dumbledore again... yeah, hard
. The only thing that stands out beyond the generic evil wizard baseline is dosing all his students with brainwashing drugs to force them to love him, and if Voldemort is still around and still has his canon end goal of "become immortal god-king of Britain and kill everyone non-magical therein"... yeah, really not feeling it.

Btw, I’ve caught supernintendo128 editing King Boo’s entry without permission and pm’d him.
IPP Wick Check created.Jesus, and I thought my cold was killing me. Feel better, Lighty.
I'd best get my two writeups done now.
Bloodbath: "The Soulcollector
:" The eponymous Soulcollector is a tortuous and hateful entity that lures his victims to his world in their dreams. Once he claims their souls, he tortures them in as many ways he can think of, reducing their physical bodies to dead husks and going on to find his next victim. Further, he implies himself to be especially cruel to his victims that escape him.
Crepitus: Crepitus is a twisted, child-eating abomination that masquerades as a clown. Targeting children on their tenth birthdays, he takes them down to his Torture Cellar and mutilates them, eating each severed body part one by one before the child dies in order to sustain himself. With a history of depravity that goes back centuries, Crepitus has corrupted his descendants for generations, even sinking to raping his own daughter, Brandi, to father a pair of daughters for him with the intention of eating one and breeding the other to continue his food supply, turning Brandi into an insane, horribly abusive alcoholic and holding her captive in his house, using her to occasionally supply him with cops as snacks. In the end, he murders Brandi and possesses her younger daughter after he disintegrates, then chains down the older daughter to be raped and to continue his feeding cycle.

I've actually noticed a tendency of bad HP fics that shift the villain role to someone else, often someone who is NOT canonically a villain, to just kind of... forget Voldemort exists. Maybe because, let's be honest, he's kind of bland, but for whatever reason in these stories both the narrative and the characters kind of arbitrarily decide that Dumbledore or Mrs. Weasley or Uncle Vernon is the true threat... but Voldemort's still out there. I mean, presumably. I feel like that wouldn't end well, in these strange, divergent realities.
