Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I have checked the YMMV history for Hunter's Hellcats and Team 7 and I have searched for any discussion on the works in this thread, but cannot find anything. I would appreciate it if someone could PM me with regards to where I could read the comics online, if possible. I would also be open to collaboration with the first person who offers.

Okay, who am I writing up today to celebrate the big 8000? Looks like Harkon has gotten a wide enough margin of approval, so...

  • Dawnguard: Lord Harkon is the Vampire Monarch ruling over Clan Volkihar, and the father of Serana. Harkon is a pure-blooded vampire, a distinction he gained through a zealous devotion to Molag Bal, which included turning over his own daughter to be violated by the Daedric Prince in a ritual to make her a vampire. Harkon even thinks nothing later of sacrificing Serana's life to fulfill a dark prophecy to blot out Nirn's sun, allowing vampirekind to overwhelm the mortal races. His arrogant lunacy turning away even his wife, who takes away Serana far from Harkon's clutches, Harkon satiates himself for centuries afterward feeding on the blood of innocents as he works to fulfill the prophecy, allowing his vampires to feed on a menagerie of suffering, still-living slaves and even ordering the culling of other "lesser" vampires should the Dragonborn elect to join him.

  • A Long Ride From Hell: Bill Savage is the aptly-named warden of Yuma Penitentiary, the so called "Hell on the hill." Savage runs Yuma as a slave camp, merrily torturing the prisoners—innocent or otherwise—at every given opportunity and giving the guards free right to do likewise. When Mike Sturges and his helpless younger brother Ray arrive in Yuma, Savage tortures Ray into insanity before killing him, and pledges to Mike's face that he'll break like his brother. Savage's atrocity escapes even Yuma when he attempts to rape a prostitute friend of Mike's on a violent whim.

  • F-Zero: Black Shadow is the ruler of Dark Million, and the always-grinning chessmaster behind every single bad event in the series. Black Shadow, atop facilitating general terrorism and abusing underlings as a course of habit, has gone to every length imaginable to prevent The Chosen One Ryu Suzaku from stopping him. Black Shadow creates the homicidal criminal Zoda and sends him off to homicidal rampages—at one point powering up Zoda to annihilate all of Mute City—and kidnaps Ryu's girlfriend Haruka to brainwash her into his pet assassin, Miss Killer, trying to use her to kill her own boyfriend. Black Shadow carbonizes Miss Killer when she finally breaks free of Black Shadow's spell, and gleefully torments Ryu with her petrified body. Black Shadow, in the finale, reveals his glorious dream that his every waking moment has been dedicated to; using his Dark Matter Reactor, Black Shadow throws the entire galaxy into death and destruction, to precede him creating a new Big Bang to annihilate the old universe and create a new one of pure evil on top of it.

  • Monster War: Dracula is Edward Hyde's cohort in crime, and an equally-willing partner in Hyde's plot to make all of humanity consume itself. Dracula spreads his vampiric curse to others in the hopes of furthering Hyde's plagues, trying to excruciatingly enslave Magdalena to his curse. At one point, Dracula slaughters over two-dozen people in a brothel, all for thrills.

  • Stranger Things: Dr. Martin Brenner, the head of the Hawkins National Laboratory, is the personification of human evil in the franchise. An ice-cold Mad Scientist with superficial regard to the lives of others, be it his test subjects or his own scientists, Brenner initially experiments on psychic college students in 1969. Brenner becomes more controlling and sadistic as time goes on, vowing to break one named Terry Ives and at one point pulling strings to have Terry's draft dodger boyfriend shipped off and killed in action in Vietnam. Brenner redirects his experiments to child subjects, taking Terry's child for his own and reducing Terry to a semiconscious vegetable through electroshock therapy. Brenner dubs Terry's child "Eleven," and exposes her and several other psychic children to more strenuous experiments, with no regard to their psychological health or even whether they live or die. Brenner's reckless experiments are responsible for unleashing the Demogorgon onto Hawkins in the first place, all of its carnage a byproduct as Brenner's complete and utter detachment from all human life.

Where should Harkon go on the Elder Scrolls page?

Also, for Brenner:

  • TV (and if so, before Mind-Flayer?)?
  • Other Media (since he's mainly a CM in the comic and novel)?
  • Both?

Put Brenner in both. Before Mind-Flayer. Harkon goes at the bottom of Skyrim with the Dawnguard note, like Father Elijah in Fallout: New Vegas.

I’d say currently for Brenner, we could put him in other media or split his entries between tv and other media.

Happy 8000 pages everybody and a big [tup] to the Anti-Monitor

Now then I just finished watching this show and I believe that I have a trio of candidates to discuss. The show in question is called Ultraviolet 2017.

What’s The Work?

Ultraviolet is 2017 Polish-Language Police Procedural Television series that aired on Netflix in America. The premise of this show is that a 30-year old woman, Ola Serafin, recently moved back to her hometown of Łódź, where she would join a group of online amateur detectives called, Ultraviolet. Now Ultraviolet has solved many cases and met many baddies, with one of them being my first candidate, Krzysztof “Elias” Górski.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?

Krzysztof “Elias” Górski or just Elias appears in the Season 1 episode “#elias” who is revealed to have kidnapped Maja Barska when she was just a little girl who Elias would make as his Sex Slave where he kept her imprisoned in his farm for twenty years for him to constantly rape and abuse.

It’s also revealed that Elias is the leader of a Breeding Cult where Elias has kidnapped numerous girls to rape and keep imprisoned for years just like Maja. He would also them give birth to his children when they become adults, like Maja, and would brainwashing them into worshipping him while also waiting until they are about nine to “marry” *cough* rape *cough*.

When a reporter, Szostak ,arrives at Elias’ farm to investigate the disappearance of Maja, Elias stabs him with a knife. Luckily, Szostak managed to save one of Elias captive girls before he bled to death from his wounds, allowing the police and the Ultraviolet group to find the girl, locate Elias’ farm, kill Elias, save all the girls in his farm, and bring Maja back to her mother.

Freudian Excuse? Redeeming Qualities?

Yeah nothing is really explain on why Elias did what he did other than he is a disgusting pedophile who lives in a remote farm wants to worshiped as a god for raping girls. Yeah nothing sympathetic nor redeeming about that at all.

Heinousness

Now the heinous standard is about the same as most other police procedurals with one or two murders an episode with an occasional higher body count now and then and rape is definitely a rare crime in this show (the only other rapist I can of will be the third candidate I’ll be proposing)

That said Elias really stands out as a horrific pedophile who have kidnapped and imprisoned numerous girls for him to rape and brainwashed for years with his most prominent victim being Maja who he kept as his personal sex slave for twenty years. So yeah I’d say Elias is more than heinous enough to qualify.

Final Verdict?

I’ll leave that to you guys
