During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Sherrife of Nottingham,
Maybe change the first line to.
The Joker is Batman's greatest nemesis and the worst that he ever faced.

"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yes to the Sheriff.
To date, I recall only two or three versions of the character not being a CM. I'm not sure what he is in the stories, but he's gotta be one of the biggest contenders of Adaptational Villainy next to Moriarty.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."Really? I can think of at least four who don't. From the animated Disney one, the Errol Flynn one (where he's kind of a bumbling Harmless Villain), the BBC Robin Hood series one and the Robin of Sherwood one (god, that was a great series)
@michael: I was actually hoping to cover Ninetails one day myself since I truly think there's a case to be made for him... but eh, I didn't put it on my to-do list, and since you beat me to the punch? I'm more than happy to let you cover him. (I might give Akuro a look if that's okay with you, but again: if you'd rather do so, feel free!)
The Sheriff is definitely a yes, but The Bastard... I don't know. I'd hate to vote down an abusive rapist but I don't feel comfortable enough to vote him up since it seems the truly worst stuff like the rape is left offscreen. I'll abstain for now, but I'm open minded enough to change my mind later after taking more time to think about him.
You know, that's a point. I'll just start it "The Joker was a mobster..."
Speaking of Noob, could he count? I remember someone tried to effortpost him (albeit, like, the DAY of the game's release).
"The wife can still safe the children"...a Scarpia Ultimatum?
Sheriff. Isn't this one actually only the second Sheriff, after Rickman's?

What about the version of him from Robin Hood (2018)? I dont think that film was discsssued.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."
to the Sheriff
Also, I found this on YMMV.The United
- Complete Monster: The Aegis Squad. There's Shadow Lori, who did something to her family that forced Geo to erase her entire dimension, Leni The Seamstress, who killed her Lincoln and her Lily and made them into clothing, Livewire Luna, who killed her family all for fame, and Laughing Luan, who's essentially The Joker with the abilities of Deadpool, minus the Fourth-wall Breaking.
Sheriff.
I don't mind proposing those two. To be honest Frost was a brat, but a very deadly and dangerous brat. The Cyber-Initiative is nothing to sneeze at, and if it's using the clan members you betrayed, that's definitely heinous level. Sektor kinda did the same thing, but that was more on the original timeline. The new one, he was in charge of the program but he wasn't actually the only person behind that since many of the leaders and members themselves made the plan and submit to it willingly.
As for D'Vorah, it's more on her constant backstabbing and willingness to support omnicidal maniac like Shinnok and Kronika just to further her own gain and the gruesome ways she kills her opponents. I know Mortal Kombat has gruesome deaths everywhere, but there's none that canonically has you get eaten alive by insects from the inside or slow death by poison which are all longer and more painful than the usual fast-pace deaths in the game.
Allow me, take my hand and never let go, promise? - GiselleJust an FYI, my remaining FF villains for the moment? Lord Carnuss, Razaak the Necromancer, Mordraneth the Stealer of Souls, Captain Cinnabar Bloodbones, Earl Keldor of Drumer, the Archmage of Mampang, Lord Belgaroth and maybe a couple of others if I get the gamebooks for them (The Shadow King, Lord Varek Azzur, Karam Gruul)
Thankfully, continuity issues and reboots of the line prevent issues with heinousness.

Should we split the Fighting Fantasy group by continuity?
Well, we already have Linka Loud.

Yes to the Sheriff and the Bastard. I am going to abstain from Bowser.

Isn't the Loud House a slice of life comedy about the dynamics of living in a large family? It doesn't seem like you could do a fanfic of that show, have a CM and have it make any sort of sense, a Complete Monster in an MLP fanfic would make more sense than that. I would say the same about any slice of life comedy show, if you have a Complete Monster in say a Seinfeld fanfic, you are not getting how the show works.

it's a Genre Shift Massively Multiplayer Crossover fic, as far as I can tell from the works page. I'm not sure how we count that sort of thing for fanfic qualifiers.
