During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

My recommendation, Cr0w? Make the EP as you watch the work. Much less likely to miss anything that way.
If you guys don't mind, I have a fic rec for you guys.
What is the work?
Field Trip. A RWBY Fan Fic from the Ruby and Nora series.
Who is he?
The Big Bad, Father Tiresias Scorch. A homophobic bat-Faunus and leader of the White Fang.
What did he do?
He is the one who is responsible for the White Fang turning from a peaceful organization to a terrorist group. He claims to be a messenger sent by the gods and preaches ideas of Faunus-supremacy and the "evils of homosexuality," declaring it as a sin against the gods. One thing he does is make members kill their lovers if it is discovered that they are gay. Scorch's Establishing Character Moment was forcing Ilia to kill her girlfriend after they were caught kissing. He had tried to get her girlfriend to do the same thing to Ilia.
Later on, he announced the beginning of the Mount Glenn train bombing plot to bring Grimm beasts into the city to destroy it. He mentioned that he has overseen the destruction of several cities before. One of them that is revealed later was the Mount Glenn massacre. When Adam caught Yang and Blake after running off, he is told that the Beacon students were there on the eponymous field trip. He asked to have all of them killed and to have Oobleck and Glynda brought to him. When Yang revealed that her sister and friends are there, he promised to bring them their bodies. It is then revealed that Trifa was forced to kill her lover for the White Fang. When he asked her if she regrets it, she hesitated to answer. Scorch snapped her neck in response to her feeling guilty about her lover.
When he had Oobleck and Glynda captured, he revealed that he was responsible for the Mount Glenn massacre of the past. And he declared that he'd force them to watch the destruction of Vale while gloating about killing the students on their watch. He starts to board the train when Adam's Lieutenant revealed that Adam's temper allowed Blake and Yang to escape. This is when he killed Adam, a follower who was loyal to Scorch and his cause, for his mistake.
He had the White Fang members on each car arm the bombs. After one of them armed it, Scorch had the train car disconnected, sacrificing the man for his plan without remorse. When a member willingly sacrificed himself to help the plan, Scorch simply smiled and said he'd be taking all the glory. When the trains finally let in the Grimm, he flew over the destruction, now proclaiming godhood and saying that it is his duty to rid the world of humans and homosexuality. While the carnage occurred, he said that he enjoyed the screams of "the damned souls." However, when his plans began to fall apart and the Grimm were being driven out of the city by the heroes, he retreated and waited for a moment to attack.
Just as Ilia was about to turn herself in, he stabbed her from the shadows out of spite for his loss. After this, he emphatically stated that he would come back, saying that everything — even Faunus — were replaceable. When he acknowledged that the heroes don't think this way, he decided to go for another spite kill and took Ren up to stab and kill him. He expected mercy from Ozpin when he surrendered, smugly thinking that he still got something out of killing Ilia and Ren, and he panicked when Oz revealed otherwise.
Mitigating factors?
None at all.
Heinous Standard?
The other two CMs in the series are Admah Keter and Abigail Lemon, but they were independent Serial Killers. Scorch is the first villain in the series to be working on a grand scale such as this, and he's not just a For the Evulz villain. Field Trip also brings in a lot of other villains, so he does have a chance to stand out.
And with Ren and Ilia's deaths, this is officially its own continuity separate from the show, so Cinder's status can't be taken into account. Plus, the villain from the following story doesn't even get close to his level.
Final verdict?
I would personally say that he has earned a spot, but I'll let you guys decide.

I usually do something similar when making my E Ps.

Had a problem like that myself Crow back in the day. I think it wasn't until 2015 that I got better. But I'm going with the others said. For example I'm gonna revist anything from my past I'm at least gonna re-watch it. For example there's a TV show in hoping to binge watch when I have the time and a book/movie series I will have to revist due to a villain from my nostalgia. So the short version is at least watch/read/play the work and if you have but its just been a long time, revist the work.
Scorch.

"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."
Scorch. Special thanks to everyone on this thread for giving a second chance to my E Ps, i really respect all of you for being so professional, it is from now on that you'll start seeing analytical, organized posts with everything needed.. Continuing with the Brazilian media, which offers good candidates. I spent a good time re-watching the work to make sure that everything is in check. Also my last candidate for today.
What is the setting? Justiça, or Justice, is an amazing miniseries exploring the lives of four people in different, but equally difficult situations:
- Vicente, a remorseful man who murdered his cheating wife. After serving his sentence in prison, Vicente wants to show to his former mother-in-law that he is a new man.
- Fátima, an accused drug dealer who shot an officer's dog for biting her son, and is now trying to rebuild her life.
- Maurício, a man who murdered his disabled wife out of mercy, and now has to deal with the problems of his new wife, a woman previously involved with a politician.
- Rose, a woman who got arrested for possession of illegal drugs at her birthday party, organized by her best friend Débora, and she is now helping her in tracking down the man who raped her, this is our candidate.
Who is Oswaldo? The man known as Oswaldo initially seems to be a mild-mannered painter, but beneath the mask lies a disturbing, terrifying psychopath with a taste for sexual violence. Having numerous counts of rape since he was teenager, Oswaldo is a repugnant man loathed by everyone around him, including his own family, who disgraced him for his criminal behavior. The Big Bad in Rose's story, Oswaldo approached Débora sometime after her friend was sent to prison. Débora, depressed for having just lost her "sister", decide to smoke by herself in the city's alleys, and this is where she was found by Oswaldo, threatening her with a pocket knife and mocking her for believing that he simply wants to rob her; Oswaldo dragged Débora to a basement he was working on, punched her, and brutally raped her. This incident marked Débora for the rest of her life, leaving her unable to have sex (despite her dreams of having a child of her own) and she dedicated the next months of her life attempting to find Oswaldo again to give him the punishment that he deserves, while everyone else just told her to try and forget about it. Reading a newspaper, Débora saw that another woman was raped at the same place she was raped, realizing that the man she is trying to find is a Serial Rapist.
Meeting with the incredibly injured victim at the hospital, Débora asked for details of the crime, and the woman said that Oswaldo had forced her to imagine that she was liking the situation. Now convinced that she must stop him, Débora finally made a sketch of him, and while she was doing that, Oswaldo was spying on a student undressing, having another target in mind. Rose's thuggish friends eventully captured a guy matching the description and lynched him, but unfortunately for Débora, they got the wrong man, the real Oswaldo followed with his plans and succeeded in raping the girl he was spying on. Finding Oswaldo by accident, Débora follows him, but Oswaldo notices her and drags her to his car; remembering that he had already raped her, Oswald comments on how she must have missed him, and asks if she "wants more", preparing to rape her again; Débora manages to escape by scratching Oswaldo's eyes.
Convinced that Oswaldo will keep raping innocent girls and women until he is stopped, Rose and Débora organize a group of men to capture the right man this time. They are succesful, and the men bring Oswaldo to the same place he had raped Débora and other women in the past. While getting a well-deserved beating, Oswaldo tries to deny his crimes, and when he notices Débora in the basement, Oswaldo tries to coerce her into bringing him to the police, and threatens her by saying that after he gets out, the first thing he will do is rape her again; this drives Débora over the edge, who picks a pipe from the ground and bludgeons Oswaldo to death, a beautiful Karmic Death to a deporable man.
Freudian Excuses? No excuses are given for his actions, his behavior exemplifies real-life rapists in the fact that behind all the evil in him, he is nothing more than a Dirty Coward who only attacks people he deems to be physically inferior than him.
Heinous? The only Card-Carrying Villain and rapist in the series, other antagonists (which tend to be involved in drug trade) are either not villains at all or simply too tragic. Oswaldo's crimes happen off-screen, and we only see the aftermath of what happened, this is not Débora's case, we see the shocking scene of him raping her not once, but twice, in the point of view of both characters involved. He is never seen murdering people, but considering how his crimes affect the women he targets...
Conclusion? I'd say
but i also want your opinion.

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffAdded Thirteen Reasons Why to watch list since the second season is revealed to air on the 18th and it appears Bryce, the dochebag rapist will likely get more crimes.
Bryce is surprisingly Affably Evil for a rapist, i'm curious to see how he will get worse.
Oswaldo. Oh Latin America and its love of mysery and drugs.
Scorch. I guess that his fic is something relatively probable to appear in the series, right?

Watch me destroying my country

Is...weird. Her backstory actions are tell in a very Booklike way, like in the World of ASOIAF and her "future" actions are actually something that a player can find.
I guess that I can wait a few years for that. I should find a new work to read and see if I can contribute to the thread.
