During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

jack and palmer
Yes to Palmer. He's one of the only characters on the show with the requisite combination of moral agency and bodycount to make it.
Going to say no on the Ripper. He just doesn't have enough characterization.
Michael's far more explicitly sadistic, playing a long game with his victims. The most we have from the Ripper is a letter.
Lighty, how much of a personality does Block's Jack have, especially since we don't even know it's the narrator until like the end?
Also, Redjac...Meaningful Name much?
The one known as Tyk shall discuss the villains from the movie that is the sequel to the movie created in 2014 about the four mutant turtles at the time that is now at this time now.
Short story: no one counts.
Long story: Krang is a giant alien brain who wants to take over the world. Because reasons. In his first scene, he tells Shredder to find three magic keys to help him transport the Technodrome to Earth. Then he betrays Shredder by freezing him and keeping him as a trophy (we see several other "trophies" in his Technodrome too). And then he fights the turtles, is defeated, and swears vengeance. The end. Krang might actually count if he had much more screentime and wasn't a borderline cliché alien villain.
Shredder is broken out of prison, transported to Dimension X, and meets Krang. Krang tells him to find three magic keys. Shredder agrees. Because plot. Besides turning Bebop and Rocksteady into mutants (and I am not complaining about that) and betraying Baxter Stockman by sending him to some facility, presumably to be tortured, he doesn't do much. Shredder stands here, says things there. He got Demoted to Dragon, and it shows.
Villains aside, I had a lot of fun with this movie and was entertained by it. It's not an outstanding movie, but it's not trying to be. And it's a lot better than the first movie, that's for damn sure.

I write stories and shiz. You can read them here.Ok I have a proposal from the tv show Angel, Darin Mac Namara.
What does he do?
He runs an arena of demons he kidnapped and forces them to fight to death in gladiator fashion and will not let them go till they've had their 21st kill. Anyone who tries to leave gets incinerated by an electric wrist band they are forced to wear, and anyone who refuses to fight are tortured. When Angel, who has been kidnapped, holds Darin's brother and partner in crime hostage as a way of forcing him to let them go, Darin, without any hesitation or look of remorse, shoots his brother to death, simply explaining, "Now he's my dead brother" and has Angel tortured afterwards. He later makes a deal with Wolfram & Hart to allow Angel to go free and was not impressed when Angel refused the offer. Believing Angel had outlived his usefulness, Darin put him in a fight against the ruling "champ" Val Trepkos, who was nearing his 21st kill.
Any Redeeming Qualities:
None. Even his own brother is nothing but a tool to him in getting what he wants.
Conclusion:
Darin Mac Namara is a greedy ringmaster and is only human in appearance, yet is monstrous than almost any villain Angel has ever face. Running a blood sport arena where he kidnaps other demons and forces them to fight to the death, Darin refuses to let any of them go until they've had their 21st kill. Anyone who tries to leave gets incinerated by an electric wrist band they are forced to wear, and anyone who refuses to fight are tortured. After he's kidnapped the protagonist, Angel, our hero holds Darin's brother and partner in crime hostage as a way of forcing him to let them go, stating "he's your brother". Darin, without any hesitation or look of remorse, shoots his brother to death, simply explaining, "Now he's my dead brother" and has Angel tortured afterwards. After Angel refuses Darin offer to be let free, Darin, believing Angel had outlived his usefulness, puts him in a fight against the ruling "champ" (who's at his 21st fight) in hopes of him getting killed. Greedy, ruthless, and even seeing his own brother as a mere tool, Darin proved to be more monstrous than any of his demons he forced to fight.

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.
to Kolchak Jack the Ripper. From the sound of it he displays just enough characterisation, between the letters which intentionally taunt people about his killings, his willingness to deceive and the fact he occasionally does especially brutal acts like cannibalism. I think its safe to say he can think and reason, even if he never reveals anything else.
Also
to Darin MacNamara.
Tell me, is that all the Kolchak candidates or is any their any more?

Yeah, I feel like I remember Mac Namara not meeting the heinous standard for Buffy.
If you did discuss him a few pages back, no results are coming up.
Actually, here's what I found; apparently it only showed up when I typed in "Darin Buffyverse + subpages monster." It apparently only showed up when I excluded the last name: [1]
