During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

- Pazuzu was an ancient demon who possessed Regan MacNeil in the original film in the hopes of getting revenge on Father Merrin for exorcising him from a boy in Africa. When he had succeeded in murdering his rival towards the climax of the film, he jumps into Karras, and he tries to force him into strangling Regan to death. Seeking to hurt Karras after the events of the first film, Pazuzu took the soul of the executed Gemini Killer, and he transferred it into Karras' body, thus contributing to the killing spree to come. In Exorcist: The Beginning, which serves as a prequel to the original Exorcist film, Pazuzu would systematically corrupt and kill anyone who arrived to the pagan temple, only leaving a sole priest in the process. Towards the end of that film, all of the soldiers and the local tribes had killed each other due to Pazuzu's influencing, thus leaving Merrin and a young boy as the only survivors.

Slight tweak...
The Exorcist: Pazuzu is the ultimate source of everything wrong within the series. Pazuzu was an ancient demon who possessed the young girl Regan MacNeil in the original film in the hopes of getting revenge on Lankester Merrin for exorcising him from a boy in Africa. Causing Regan to go into violent body spasms and staying in her "until she rots and lies stinking in the Earth," it is implied Pazuzu causes Merrin a fatal heart attack, before it takes control of Father Karras in an attempt to dispose of Regan. Seeking to hurt Karras after the events of the first film, Pazuzu took the soul of the executed Gemini Killer and transferred it into Karras' body, thus setting off the Gemini Killer's further spree. In the prequel, Exorcist: The Beginning, Pazuzu systematically corrupted and killed anyone who arrived at the pagan temple, only leaving a sole priest in the process. Towards the end of The Beginning, all of the soldiers and the local tribes had killed each other due to Pazuzu's influence, leaving Merrin and a young boy as the only survivors. An obscene, destructive abomination, Pazuzu gleefully ruins the lives of everyone around it and has well-earned its status as an icon of horror.

Well he was the Man Behind the Man to the Gemeni Killer.
"It's like...a cliff, and if I do it, I'm just gonna...fall." "I think we're already falling."A few of the things that he did regarding the second film involved attempting to seduce Lamont by appearing to him as a succubus, and attacking an African village by taking on the form of locusts. The film also revealed that Pazuzu went after people who had a form of psychic hearing.

to the Pazazu re-write and the new Other Media quote.
Anywho…
- The Apostle, Claude, is a follower of Cevora, who seeks every opportunity to increase his gods', and his own, power. Summoning a demon, The Apostle orders it to massacre the followers of Olgun, a god who The Apostle plans to use to make Cevora stronger. When a teenage girl named Widdershins survives this incident, The Apostle ensures she is framed for the killings. After assassins fail him, The Apostle painfully uses them as sacrifices to summon another demon who he sends to kill Widdershins. Killing a prominent noble and the Archbishop, knowing it could cause riots, The Apostle frames Shins for the crime, forces her to bring him to anymore Olgun worshippers, then orders his demon to kill any potential worshippers in the area before making one last attempt to cut Shins down.
- Even among his fellow Faeries, Iruoch stands out as the most monstrous. Attracted to the fear the city of Davillon was experiencing, Iruoch began killing and eating anyone he came across. Having a sweet tooth for children, Iruoch finds a small group of kids, eats most of them, then kills the rest before repeating the process on an even larger group of noble children. Iruoch later kills a thief who he had strong-armed into helping him, then attacks Widdershins and her friends, murdering numerous bystanders in the scuffle. Before being beaten, Iruoch murders Shins' Love Interest, Julian Bouniard, and happily taunts her about it afterwards.
Thanks Austin DR. I will probably re-post my argument tomorrow then.

And done. I'll submit that and the quotes Saturday; the usual weekly batch and the Pokemon Fanfic I'll do Saturday and submit Monday.
I think Saturday I'll also cut Pazuzu for now (I'm open to not doing that; other thoughts?).
