During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "
to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

@Wet: It's likely connected to the Return of the King animated flick Rankin/Bass did, but nothing really worth noting for heinous standard. The Witch King is a CM in the ROTK animated flick, but he's an entirely different beast from Smaug, and the lack of similar nasties like Saruman, Gothmog, etc. make this Smaug stand out more
@Bull: Go for it in Darna!

No! That is NOT Solid Snake! Stop impersonating him!
to The Animated Smaug
Okay so Rhulk’s doing well so here’s his write-up and while I’m at it, I decided to re-write the other entries to make them a bit more shorter.
- Destiny 2:
- Dominus Ghaul is the commander of the Red Legion who usurped Emperor Calus as leader of the The Cabal. Envious of the Guardian’s capabilities to wield the Traveler’s Light Ghaul invades the Last City on Earth and deploys a ship that severs the Guardians' connection to the Traveler, while his forces slaughter helpless civilians and Guardians. Ghaul would also interrogate the Speaker to learn more about the Light by torturing him until he dies and murders his closest ally, the Consul, when the latter berated him for his efforts. Ghaul would then plan to strip the Light from the Traveler before attempting to destroy the Solar System with the "Almighty" a cataclysmic weapon Ghaul had already used to conquer and destroys dozens of worlds.
- Forsaken: Riven of a Thousand Voices is a sadistic Ahamkara who was sealed inside the Dreaming City for her deceitful nature. Found by Oryx, The Taken King, Riven would make deal to maintain her free will by letting Oryx forcibly turn everyone in the Dreaming City into Taken allowing Riven to rule over the city. Riven would then disguise herself as Mara Sov, to corrupt and manipulate Uldren Sov into committing atrocities for her, having Uldren create the undead Scorn and free the Solar System's most notorious criminals, leading to massive bloodshed throughout the galaxy before Riven devours Uldren alive after he frees her. When a Guardian raid team was sent to kill Riven, she would make sure the Dreaming City would be kept in an time-loop and remain under Taken influence to forever subject those in the city to endure constant suffering
- The Witch Queen: Rhulk was a bloodthirsty Lubrean whose brutally horrified his own parents so much that they tried to kill him. When Rhulk survived their attempt, Rhulk retaliates by slaughtering them along with everyone else in his clan, children included, before destroying his own planet. Found by The Witness, Rhulk becomes their First Disciple where he would commit countless atrocities on their behalf, which include manipulating the Ahslid into fighting each other leading to their extinction, and making Xita, the Nurturing Worm, his Breeding Slave, while threatening her life to force her children to do his bidding; Rhulk would use the worms he had Xita mass produce to transform the Krill into the undead Hive. Sent by the Witness to supervise Savathûn and kill her if she goes against them, Rhulk would gain control of The Scorn and use them against Savathûn and her forces after she seals him inside his own Pyramid where Rhulk would attempt to kill a Guardian raid team when they enter it.

My sandbox of EPs and other stuffI wondered if anybody would count in the animated Hobbit movie too since Aruman counted in the Bakshi film and the Witch King counted in the animated Return of the King one as well. Asked and answered in that case clearly. Based on the EP,
to that Smaug too.
Seeing the pictures and hearing about he looks like Scraggle's cat? That's hilarious! Haha.

Uh for Ghaul. Can I ask a question. Didn't later expansions apparently give him more sympathetic reasonings for his actions or something.
I remember it came up here guy went nowhere.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."That reminds me of my question on which I didn’t get an answer.
You see when the clone wars TV show was airing there was also comic series of same name. One of arcs in comic was ‘The Slaves of the Republic’ which was eventually adapted on TV show. However comic has a noticable diffrences from the show: Warlord of Kiros is Besalisk rather than Zygerrian, Ventres is with Dooku on Zygerria when in show she has already left his service, keeper Argust is captured rather than killed and so on. Comic was rendered OFFICIALY non canon with canon reset, what I am asking would anybody be opposed to my giving a shot to comic version of Argust.

Gonna abstain on Film Smaug but not gonna object if he makes it
@Ravok are the Rankin Bass Tolkien films connected or standalone? Just so there's a general knowledge of the heinous standard.
I'd say you're good there Bull
What's wrong D-16? Rise up!
