Isn't Convergence one of those where the really good stuff was in the tie-ins that he doesn't cover in the video?
I must admit I don't regularly follow AtFW but I do like Event Month. Pity that's so often when the Schedule Slip gets really bad.
I hope that Marvel Judgement Day gets on event comic month some time in the future
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe just posted his re-edited version of the History of Power Rangers on S.P.D.:
This is one my favorite seasons and he does a great job talking about it.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup thread- Trent's absence in "History" is particularly odd since he does show up in "Wormhole" which is set before the Dino Thunder finale. And while Kira does mention Tommy at the end of History, there is no sight or mention of Trent in the episode at all, save for some footage of the teen Dino Thunder Rangers from "Fighting Spirit".
- As mentioned in SPD's YMMV page, Sky and Jack being surprised at the idea of a female Red Ranger is even funnier since the closest season to SPD in the timeline is Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, where Amelia became the Red Ranger. Then again, if SPD, Cosmic Fury and Samurai are all part of the same timeline, the idea of a female Red Ranger shouldn't be that surprising. But, sexism doesn't really make sense.
convergence yeah the best parts were in the tie ins where the fights were actually happening. it had some good parts like ryan choi coming back and shrinking deathstrokes hands to baby hands. but the main series did bring over post crisis clark, lois, and jon, and parralax hal.
also death metal has a couple tie ins that while not part of the main series are still pretty important, like the crisises one shot, or speed metal, or the superboy prime redemption issue.
Superman did kill Darkseid in Final Crisis (albeit he was on his last legs, destroying his essence was just the last nail on the coffin, but it still counts), though in his review Linkara didn't really care about his breaking his no-kill rule there. It's more Batman shooting Darkseid he brought up
Of course, since Darkseid was on full Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum mode killing him would be an act of self-defense
According to his twitter it was because he had trouble taking notes for this one because nothing much actually happens.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadJust finished the video and I enjoyed it. Despite there not being much happening in the comic, Linkara managed to still make the recap funny.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadSo, they restarted the infinite multiverse twice?

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI feel like it's notable that the story gets a lot of better whenever the Molecule Man, Volcania, and Mephisto show up.
They're the only characters that are really moving the story along. The Molecule Man is almost on the Beyonder's level and can both empathize with him and also fight him. Meanwhile, Mephisto is actually making plans that actually have a chance at succeeding so there is actual drama. Everyone else is just kind of ineffectual and aimless. The X-men and the Avengers especially just kind of show up and then one side of the conflict just teleports away. Meanwhile the Molecule Man is having an entire character arc that's engaging and sweet. I also like Volcania being willing to sacrifice so much to protect the person she loves.
The Beyonder really suffers from all the tie-ins. If you don't read them, then it feels like he's just changes personalities and groups every other issue which makes it impossible to get attached to him.
I honestly think this mini-series could have worked if they had condensed it down to maybe 4 or 5 issues and put the focus more on those three groups: Molecule Man and Volcania, Mephisto and the Cosmic Powers, and The Beyonder and Frank. Have the Beyond just have one main friend i.e. Frank who he goes on his character journey with. Then, you have the stuff with death which introduces Mephisto. Then you have the same climax with all the heroes showing up to try and stop the Beyonder from destroying reality.

I can't find it anymore but I once read an interview with Jim Shooter where he said that the first Secret Wars was limited to who Mattel wanted included and that he handled the writing himself to prevent writer feuds. But there was discontent when Secret Wars turned out to be a big hit which meant Shooter got the sweet royalties. Secret Wars I was a big enough sale success to justify a sequel and wasn't reliant on a toy line so Shooter included ALL THE CHARACTERS and ALL THE TIE-INS so everybody could get a bite of the pie. And making Marvel a ton of money was likely also a concern.
But that's why Secret Wars II is the way it is.
Something I've noticed from the linked Annuals events Marvel started doing is that it's very hard to draw a neat line through the entire Marvel Universe. Instead of having one conflict, Secret Wars II tries that trick by having it be an extended character journey that can vary in stakes and tone. It was an interesting idea but it just didn't work out. Maybe it could have if it was more contained, like Secret Wars 1 was. Limitations can fuel creativity.
Not surprised that the start leans into comedy. Shooter had pretty good comedic beats in his first Avengers run. And a godlike being undone by very human desires is a recurring theme of his.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWith another reality glitch in this video, anyone have a clue at what the aliens analyzing Linkara are doing? You know, the ones who dealt with Confession for getting in the way of their mysterious experiment? I think maybe he and the room's "tainted" in some way after the Entity latched onto him.

The line-up for this year's Event Comics Month is:
