Yeah I forgot to point that out. Still, the film we got was on many different levels of awesome. I plan on watching it again as soon as I can get some friend's together. And if that fails just go by myself again.
As a series as a whole though, Scott Pilgrim is one of the few things I can honestly and out right admit that I'm a fan of it instead of going "I like it, but I'm not a fan of it." since I don't want my fanboyism to become fan dumb.
"WHY DO I KNOW THIS!"- Me, after another bout of exposition of a random topic.@Watchtower Shouldn't that line (PREPARE TO FEEL THE WRATH OF THE LEAGUE OF EVIL EXES!!) be labeled as Incoming Ham?
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature.Saw the movie, read the comics, saw the movie again.
I loved them both. I hear a lot about how Scott and Ramona (Ramona especially) aren't likeable or very deep in the movie, but I totally disagree. I feel that the movie's character depth was much less obvious in the movie. In the comics we're given a lot more material and a longer timeframe to really SEE it, but in the movie it's a lot more subtle. I felt that Winstead especially played a fantastic Ramona and communicated her troubled past extraordinarily well. I don't know really how to explain it properly. All I can say is that I found movie-Ramona to be adorable and super Woobie.
After reading the comics and seeing the movie for the second time, the only cut I am even mildly disappointed with is (Volume 5 spoilers) The Katayanagi Twins battle. I mean, in the movie it's awesome and all, but in the comic book it just RIPPED my heart out. The fake text was both heartwarming and Tear Jerker at the same time, and the fact that Ramona would even try and turn two brothers against each other really made me question everything I thought I knew. In the movie it was little more than filler. AWESOME filler, but still filler. That said, I understand why it was done and it in no way makes the movie any less epic or win. It's just a shame it had to happen that way.
Also, this is the closest we'll ever get to a No More Heroes movie. Is it just me or did Gideon look like an asshole adult Travis Touchdown? I mean, he had the glasses, the coat, the lightsaber...
Both comics and movie are just fantastic. The movie is an absolute treat. I haven't been so in love with a movie since...ever. I'm a Scottaholic now.
..."Bread makes you FAT?!"
"Perhaps I am not insane. Perhaps I am SO SANE that it BOGGLES YOUR MIND."Saw the film a couple of weeks ago, thought I'd come Trope about it.
Honestly, the thing that most made me grin was Ramona's neck chip. I know that the comic put in a whole plot thread as a metaphor for getting over one's baggage and putting aside fantasy for reality, but for a shorter format like the film, a mind-control chip made the best explanation I've ever heard for going back to an abusive douchebag of an ex-boyfriend.
It helped that the guy who played Gideon really knew how to play a Jerkass.
I have met the Kwisatz Hadouchebag. Also, something that struck me during the second watch: There seems to be rather a lot of references to pee in the film. And Ramona goes to the bathroom three times offscreen.
"Perhaps I am not insane. Perhaps I am SO SANE that it BOGGLES YOUR MIND."It's either that or the characters were saving their games often.
"Perhaps I am not insane. Perhaps I am SO SANE that it BOGGLES YOUR MIND."I actually found the complete lack of explanation for Scott's awesome fighting skills to suit the tone of the movie a lot better, since I thought it was a poke at Gameplay and Story Segregation.
...
FINALLY! IT all makes sense now! I was wondering why the difference was so jarring! Now it all makes sense now! Thank you! That final puzzle piece was bugging me about the comic and movie for like, ever!
Story gameplay segregation, can't believe I didn't see it before.
When All Else Fails, you have fun and flirt wit da ladies, dats da Drawings way!I don't know. It struck me as just traditional game logic. I mean, I boot up the PSN game, and you just sort of take it for granted that all the characters can fight. There's no explanation because there doesn't need to be an explanation. It only comes off as eyebrow raising in a more traditional narrative because you expect these things to have an explanation. Personally, I'm happy with them sticking to game logic.
@Big Daddy P: I would have, but Incoming Ham is reserved for the Large Ham's entrance. By the time Lucas says that line, the fight had been going on for a good 10 minutes.
^I guess so, but on the other hand he did introduce the other 6 hammy exes (Except the twins who were just Pure Awesome.
Inspirational quote against powerful image of nature. This is my second favorite movie of the year. I dug the hell out of this picture. I do think it should get an Oscar Nomination for Best Visual Effects, because the effects in this movie are absolutely fantastic.
And although it may have failed at the box office for whatever reason, I can see this movie getting a strong reaction on DVD and making up for all of that. I know I'll buy a Special Edition.
Yes We Did. Dallas Mavericks — 2011 NBA ChampionsI felt the film was very enjoyable (although Kim tried too bloody hard with the deadpan sarcasm stuff, and there was zero chemistry between Scot and Ramona's actors), but lost a hell of a lot of steam once the Vegan fight had ended. The film's final showdown was suitably exciting, but between him and the Vegan...eh. Seemed to flounder a lot, trying to find something that simply wasn't there.
May have been a fault of the source material, tho'.
Yeah the vegan fight as a bit of an Anti-Climax Boss in both the film and comic. If it wasn't for his stupidity, Scott would have lost.

Given the business this film did, if they had split it into two films the second one would've never gotten greenlit.
