Greetings. This is the thread for requesting assistance with recovering a TV Tropes account for which you have forgotten the password.

Before posting here, please note that Get Known has a comprehensive set of instructions for managing your account. To summarize, password resets are limited as follows:

  • If you have an associated email address, use the Lost Password link on the login screen to request a reset email. If that doesn't work, post here.
  • If you do not have an associated email address but you are still logged in, you can register an email address and use it for recovering your password.
  • If you do not have an associated email address, and have not used your previous account since September 18, 2013, we cannot verify your ownership for technical reasons.
  • To verify ownership without an email address, and if you have used your previous account recently, you should be logged in on the same computer and/or Internet connection that you most recently edited or posted from.
  • It is not currently possible for moderators to reset your password or change your registered email address. As a last resort, you may use our contact form to send a message to "The Staff".

Thanks for your understanding.

Okay yeah that makes sense, it would have been on a different laptop back then when I made the current account I was using, sorry about that, would there be any other way or would I just have to settle for my old account that I am using now?

You'll have to use your old account unless you can manage to log in from the same IP address with both of them. If you created that account recently, though, you would have had to use an email when registering. You can use that email address to recover it.

I don't think I would be able to do since I don't know the IP address of my old laptop.

I don't have my old laptop with me at the moment but it still works, would it help if I can find the IP address of that?

If that doesn't work I guess I could try and find my password for my account and barring that I guess I would have to stick to this account again.

My apologies about all this.

As I said, if you registered that account within the past year or so, you can recover it here.

I have attempted this the method of trying this on the lost password feature but all it does for me is that I put in my handle and then type in the Capctha and it just brings up the screen again with a different captcha, is it meant to bring up a message confirming this or am I meant to repeat this process a few times?

Again my apologies about all of this.

Deleted the cookies on Safari and forgot my password to my old account. It was Mokoniki. Can it be reset please? Thanks!

Hello, I'm Hitstun and I haven't been able to log in for at least a month. I was more active a couple years ago but I think I never verified my email address, so the password reset fails. I made some edits to Pixiv under this Hitstun_ name but I'd like to be able to use my original account again if I can. Can you help?

Sorry, but I can't see a similarity between your current IP and Hitstun's.

I knew I forgot something. OK, I've remoted into a computer at my parents' house where I think I was logged in last as hitstun. Is this IP close enough?

Still not similar enough. I'll ask for admin assistance.

~The5thWall: I'm sorry, but there is no handle named Fifth Wall, and your current IP address does not match any existing handles.

I guess this is sorta relevant, as it has to do with password resets, and I dunno where else to put it, but I lost access to the original email account I used to sign up for this site, and, well, I was wondering if it'd be possible to remove it from this account, for security reasons. It'd really help with peace of mind, and I don't know where else to post this, sorry.

Hi, I'm Neo Chaos. My previous login cookie was wiped out in the switch to the new design, I don't remember my password and I didn't have an e-mail address added to my account for recovery purposes. Can I have the e-mail added to the account so I can reset my password?

ETA: Maybe I should list an e-mail, huh? neochaos@sbcglobal.net

OK, so I am Reg Shoe. Now I am irritated. For some reason on the change over to this new format my cookie vanished and then I could not log back in with what I though was my password. I also apparently never associated an email address with it. My email address is matthewfoweraker@hotmail.com.

Reg Shoe here. Currently more or less unable to use site or get into my account thanks to switchover issues. I'm not bitter, just British.

I'm here. Also joining the can't login or reset my old password club. Hoping to be Handsome Rob again soon.

User name Handsome Rob. Email is oai28@hotmail.com

Now, I have a problem that before I got this temp account to work, I tried to login using that email with other accounts, but those ones didn't work either(not sure why either). I hope that won't be a problem.

~Fire And Dice: As far as I know, there is no way to do so short of the admins going into the database.

~notneochaos, ~rjung2k and ~Also Handsome Rob, I've reset the accounts you want to recover. You need to Get Known on them again.

~grrr, that account doesn't share an IP address with you.

Septimus, it still doesn't work for me. I can't login, and when I try to reset the password to my old account I get "We don't have that address verified on file for you. Either try another or maybe go for a new account."

I am not sure if the problem might be because I am trying to use the same email address for both my old account and my new one. I tried to change the email on my new account to a different one, but it doesn't seem to take even though I received the confirmation email.
