This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
For a fun site, we're pretty fussy about stuff like grammar and spelling, for example. More than you would expect, considering that we do want the funny. Everything is better with the funny.
Leave a note here indicating you want to talk the suspension over, then hang in there for a bit. A moderator will be along to talk to you about the situation.
NOTE: If you see another banned person post something that you want to comment on, don't. This thread is for discussion between banned people and Mods - no third parties invited.
While you're at it, browse What to Do If You Are Suspended.

~discojoggs: In your short time here, you have demonstrated a remarkable lack of ability and/or desire to recognize and adapt to our rules. Your claim of laziness as an excuse for plagiarism does nothing to convince us that you are not going to be suspended again in short order for some other violation. This situation was completely preventable. You will not be permitted to edit the wiki again.
~Marauder09: It's not as simple as that. Plagiarism isn't just a violation of the rules; it could get us into serious legal trouble. By doing it, you put the entire site at risk. "I wasn't caught until now" is not a reassuring excuse. Why would you think a site like ours is somehow exempt from copyright law?
~djargus: You claim to have difficulty understanding when someone is giving you "direct input". When I ask a question such as, "Do you accept that you are fully responsible for your own behavior," I expect a direct response. That's what we need in order to move on. If you continue to blame other people for your own issues, you will be banned again very quickly, and I don't want that to happen.
~GamerManDrew: Thank you for the apology, but I'd like to get a better understanding of what made you go off in the forum thread for Regular Show. You do realize that it's a cartoon, right? Nothing in fiction is worth being this upset over.
To make a long story short, I do apologize for being quick on the draw with image uploading without proper consultation. Whatever happens is for you moderators to decide for yourselves.
~RWBYraikou888: Nobody is asking you not to change images. We are asking you to follow Image Pickin' rules when doing so. We don't accept promises to avoid specific features on the wiki because nobody ever keeps them, and we can't block you specifically from changing images. This is all or nothing.
Also, stop with the multiple posts. We can read them and haranguing us makes us less likely to want to help you.
~AnonymusRunner: There's a fine line between uncommunicative and overly communicative, and you seem to have developed a habit of lobbing walls of text at people as explanations for your behavior. That's my thing.
Please read our Edit War policy and explain in your own words, with parsimony, what you should do if you have a disagreement with someone over the content of an article.
~LovelyPrincess123: We don't normally take age into consideration when judging suspensions. Either you are capable of using the wiki responsibly or you are not. Please explain what you would like to do besides making junk subpages.

Well, I guess I'll end my posting here with one last question. Since the FAQ states that expecting a removal via waiting is not encouraged, how long would you personally give me? I know I should've asked this sooner, but I'll end it off here.

I thought I was stating such with the latter posts, but I will say it directly, I accept I am responsible for my own actions.
Berrenta: Can you link me to the thing I allegedly plagiarized? The opinion I wrote was my own — but that does not mean I did not achieve parallel consensus with someone else. Or did you mean the avatar?
(Also, if you sent me a message, I still can't read it because of the edit-privileges ban.)
Edited by slvstrChung on Jun 21st 2021 at 9:53:07 AM
PM the guy to sort it out, leave a post on Ask The Tropers, discussion page or forums or report them. Not sure if that 'parsimony' thing was drawing attention to what I said or if you were telling me to minimize.
discojoggs attempted ban evasion, completing their trifecta of failing to understand how rules work. They have now been bounced.
Well, now that I’ve stopped making subpages that don’t really work, I’d want to add some character pages for shows with characters that don’t have those pages so that people would know what characters there are in a show if they are reading about it on Tv Tropes.
Fighteer: Benson was already a Scrappy for me due to his short temper and the fact that he had a tendency to be needlessly cruel to Mordecai and Rigby. The Best Burger in the World ended up making things worse. Ever since then, I get angry whenever people defend Benson without even acknowledging the fact that he has his fair share of flaws. Eventually, I snapped and lashed out. Just like Benson, I need to learn to control my temper.

Alright. I guess this is down to the original thread at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=101525&type=att
, the follow up (which I've only just seen by the way) at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=101547&type=att
and the PM I can't see (which as a separate issue - if the PM is an explanation or justification for suspension, denying me access to it isn't helpful).
This seems like hamfisted overkill. If someone has a problem with what I'm doing or saying, you know they could always just talk to me? I'm not unapproachable and swinging the suspension mallet at me before I've even had a chance to face my accusers and put my side of things seems very arbitrary. I'd have been happy to talk it out, either in that second thread or via P Ms if required.
So, what happens next?
Edited by Exxolon on Jun 23rd 2021 at 6:02:13 PM
I did wait. I waited a few days and no one who commented after me, including you I believe, gave me any feedback and as of the last week, no one still has. While I understand that I should’ve gone to a mod afterwards, I was hoping to reason with Anonymous Runner like I had done before with another troper.
Edited by Jackpot21 on Jun 23rd 2021 at 3:32:49 AM
~Gamer Man Drew: I'll lift the suspension, but I stress that if you can't control your temper you'll likely be banned for good.
~Exxolon: Well, firstly, this was totally inappropriate
I think the suspension was issued because judging from comments in the other ATT (about this thread
) it doesn't seem like the first time.
~Jackpot21: Sure, but you still need to answer this question
To either go to the discussion page, (which I attempted to do, only for Anonymous Runner to ignore it), send a private message to the troper I’m arguing with, go to Ask The Tropers or forums like Trope Talk, (to which I had done but received no feedback on), or use the "Report Page" button.
I just said that I had waited a few days before trying to reason with Anonymous Runner, even checking back within the last week, but receiving no feedback almost two weeks later. And can you and Fighteer please stop spamming my inbox with the same link?
Edited by Jackpot21 on Jun 24th 2021 at 5:22:35 AM
I'll hold my hands up on the first part - yep, inappropriate use of the ATT area and I owe the other Troper an apology for making it personal, which I'll be happy to do (if they want one) either publicly or via PM if I get reinstated and I'll undertake not to derail ATT threads and take it to the forums if I think there's an issue related to the thread that needs addressing more widely.
Having said all that, I'm still a bit mystified that a forum thread about an unrelated issue in the appropriate place that wasn't personal about anyone (check https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16232168550A98029300&page=1#1
- it's in the Wiki Talk forum, isn't addressed at any individual, it's a comment on a broken system) is somehow A - inappropriate and B - additional justification for suspension.
What say you?
EDIT - I now have two unreadable messages in my inbox - if, as I suspect, they relate to the issues under discussion, then denying me access to them isn't very constructive.

I want to know if and when i can edit again. Could you pleae tell me?

Hi folks, I got a message saying I've been suspended today. What did I do?
UPDATE: I think I realize what I did wrong - I used an episode summary from another fansite; I didn't realize that doing so would be a problem. Please let me edit again; it won't happen after this, I promise!

Hi. After being banned in January 2016, my wiki editing access was restored three years ago in September 2018, but my access to other areas of the site was not. At the time, that was fine with me because I had no desire to return to the forums.
However, I've been trying to make an effort to leave this username and the bad memories that come with it behind. But I realize that changing my account here, with my current status, would fall under ban evasion; so that doesn't happen, I would like for my case to be reviewed again.
I do remember the various infractions that got me banned in the first place, and every single one has to do with losing my temper, being melodramatic, holding a grudge, or some combination of the three. (The exact words were, and I quote, "attention whoring [my] depression". I've kept the screenshot not out of anger, but as a reminder where my behavior got me.) Those memories are... quite humiliating, but they aren't the reasons I want to change accounts (...well, they aren't the only reasons, at least). But I will own up to them nevertheless, and try to fix my mistakes where possible.
I started attending therapy in... November 2019, I believe — more than a year after my editing access was restored. It's still ongoing, and it has made a significant impact in my day to day life.
If I'm still judged to be unfit to interact with other users, though, I would fully understand and would have no objections.
EDIT: Actually, the account changing's not that important, and I have my doubts that it would be possible. Come to think of it, I'm stuck with this name on a lot of sites regardless...

~Narita 90, looks like you're another user who has been plagiarizing from other sites. We take this issue very seriously; do you want us to get into legal trouble?
@Berrenta No, absolutely not - it won't happen again, I promise!
Also, please note that I was unaware that using the official summary of a work (or that from another fansite) was a violation of any site policies - the issue wasn't brought to my attention until literally today. I've read the article, and now know to avoid this in the future.

I noticed I got edit banned today. I assume by the timing it was because of my edit on Cinderella Plot and it being seen as edit warring with fruitstripegum. Wikipedia does say that Rhodopis is the earliest version of the story (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinderella
), so I wanted it to be accurate, and the story is associated with Southern Europe anyways as the first literary version came from Italy. Can I please have another chance at editing? I'll try to explain edits like that better, and won't be so hasty to revert edits.

After giving myself time to collect myself after the previous blunders, I vow to keep my eye on Image Pickin' for when I have the urge to suggest images. I understand now that it's not a complicated process like I had psyched myself out into believing. You have my word.
~Cooking Cat — Your explanation was sound, the issue is that you immediately reinstated your edit when it was reverted. That's what makes it an Edit War. Not being hasty is good. Can you check the policy page and explain what you should've done instead of reinstating your edit?
Edited by crazysamaritan on Jun 24th 2021 at 2:51:41 PM
~Jackpot21: We'll see, I'll lift the suspension.
~TVGUY54: It's two different issues. Firstly, you are adding examples marked with %% tags on YMMV.Luca. Why are you doing this?
Second, as can be seen from your post here your grammar is not up to the standard that we require from wiki editors. You may want to propose edits in this
thread for a while.
~Baffle Blend and ~Exxolon: I'll ask the rest of the staff.
~RWB Yraikou 888: We'll hold you to that. I'll lift the suspension. You may want to read Conversation in the Main Page, you have some warnings about it.

slvstrChung, we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to plagiarizing from anywhere. Do you really want us to get into legal trouble for something you did?
