This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Was i suspended because I launched Protagonist Tropes when I didn't participate in the discussion if so is it permanent?
Edited by lugia1 on Apr 1st 2020 at 10:51:14 PM
I know why I was suspended. I have been in conflict with another troper, who I feel has been acting in a rude manner. After attempting to address this behavior using a one of the 'problem with your edit' responses and a PM exchange that followed, they proceeded to start editing pages that I have edited, and has admitted to policing my editing habits in PM exchanges.
Should I have acted more civilly? Certainly. But I believe that the other individual involved has shown equally uncivil behavior with comments in their trope edits having a rude or condescending tone, unpleasant behavior when addressed over P Ms, and now this has escalated to, again, them policing my editing habits and making edits to pages I have edited in the past.
This conflict eventually led to the creation of a cleanup thread by the other party (which I cannot find as it is not in my history on either of my computers and, though this other troper linked it in my messages, I cannot access them due to my suspension) where I aired our dirty laundry in public. I was rightfully called out by a moderator for this, and decided to let the issue go. It wasn't worth continuing this.
They contacted me late yesterday using a boilerplate trope response, and I basically yelled at them and them not to contact me again regarding my edits, saying that I would contact administration on another site that we are both part of, and was suspended shortly thereafter (whether by a report from them or by some moderator watching my messages). I would have contacted TV Tropes moderators, but I legitimately did not know how to do that until I got the notification I was suspended, so I took the first avenue I knew of.
I apologize for the tone I said all of this in, but I have difficulty apologizing for the intent of what I said. This other troper has displayed this behavior for the better part of a decade, and when their response to the 'rudeness' problem with an edit message is 'back at you', it is hard to remain the bigger person, something which I struggle with by default.
One last thing: this could all have been avoided if I just blocked them, I realize that, but the block function on this site doens't seem to work for me. Regardless, I recognize I was the instigator here, and will take my knocks.
E: Just adding this to to acknowledge that, yes, have read several pages that are or may be pertinent to this case, particularly Edit War and Righting A Great Wrong, and all of the terminology pages, including Pothole, Sinkhole, Crosswick and a few other terms this troper used in their edit comments.

Was i suspended because I launched Protagonist Tropes when I didn't participate in the discussion if so is it permanent? Can anyone answer?
~lugia1: That is correct. So what's your story this time? It's suspension number two, and I'm not really interested in letting you keep editing if you're going to keep ignoring the rules.
~SCPIhpkmn: Yeah, you've got some kind of paranoia complex going on, that much is clear. When you make bad edits, people clean them up. That's how a wiki works. Then you decide you're being persecuted because someone is checking all your edits, based on the completely reasonable justification that you keep making bad edits.
So, rather than learn how to edit properly, you accuse them of stalking and harassing you. That shit, to use a colloquialism, don't fly.
If you want to continue editing our wiki, you need to follow our rules. It's that simple.
~Emerald Theorem: I'm almost afraid to ask, but what exactly is your issue with RWBY that's sending you off on paranoid rants on the Discussion page? "Cabal of editors", or perhaps, and I know this is a crazy idea but bear with me, members of our wiki making sure the articles use tropes accurately.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I accidentally clicked on the launching button for that trope, i only realised afterwards that i was suspended.
@fighteer, that's called me being sleep drunk and having less impulse control than normal because my sleep cycle has been thrown out of sync thanks to the epidemic. Apologies. I'm steering clear of discussion threads now to avoid this.

I have a post explaining my action on the previous page I've been waiting on for more than a couple days still pending. I was wondering if I could settle it with a mod, discuss it. Thank you for your time.

Catching up from last page...
~Accursed Fans: Seems like you're also a fan of Augusto Pinochet. We've got some dictator apologists in the house.
~antihero276: We'll get to you shortly.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~lugia1: When you click Launch, you must click a second time on a different button to confirm that decision. It's not possible to do by accident. You'll have to come up with a better excuse.
~Emerald Theorem: Okay, I suppose we can credit that explanation for the specific posts in question, but you've been arguing on the YMMV Discussion page for quite a long time, and this feels less like sleep deprived frustration and more like the explosion of a long buildup. You might want to work that out. Can you do that?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Sure, I can do that. It's just a silly wiki page, getting heated over it is pointless given other stuff going on in my life.
~lugia1: Yeah, you aren't even trying now. Your suspension will not be released.
~Emerald Theorem: That's right: it is a silly argument. Thanks for being reasonable. I'll release your suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Fighteer just tested your theory, and the confirmation box does not line up to your claim. So, you're lying. Goodbye.
Edited by Berrenta on Apr 2nd 2020 at 9:57:39 AM
Fighteer if you're going to accuse me of having a paranoia complex, then just delete my account. The fact that you, a moderator, is okay of accusing someone of having a goddamn mental disorder instead of addressing their concerns about another user harassing them is shameful.
~SCPIhpkmn: I was using the phrase colloquially, not medically, and we don't delete accounts. We do block them, however, and since you've asked to have that done, we'll oblige.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@Fighteer: I am not a fan of Pinochet. I posted neutral historical statistics (including some unfavorable to him, such as the effects of the 1980 currency peg that his economists specifically advised against) on that page (as I do on many random ones) like... [checks] 7 months ago and never touched it again.
I presume this is because I pointed out that 2,100+ of those killed/disappeared by his government were actually insurgents? This is a fact admitted to by the insurgent groups in question
and disputed by no one.

I know I was suspended for releasing the Boo To The Zoo article. I want to know how long I am suspended for.
Edited by Troper3 on Apr 2nd 2020 at 11:40:48 AM
~Troper3: Well, like with everybody else who gets suspended for this, why did you do it? I'm trying to investigate the psychology behind this phenomenon, because we need to figure out how to stop it. What makes someone go into a proposed trope, having never participated or contributed, and decide to press the Launch button, then confirm by pressing a different Launch button?
What could ever possibly make you think that's a good idea? I want a specific answer, and I hope it's better than that a whole bunch of people are completely ignorant of social norms.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Bumping this:
I still want to edit on the site though. I have to update the Xavier Riddle page, make some crosswicks, and create a page for Ollie's Pack. If I can't, no one else will. My goal on the site is to document things that other people wouldn't. I promise to stay away from the Disney Junior pages forever, and I won't complain about jessicadicicco610 ever again. In fact, I won't complain about anything ever again. Please release my suspension.
~Excelsior123: Our decision is final. You have demonstrated that you can't be trusted on the wiki, and so we aren't going to trust you again.
~Accursed Fans and ~antihero276: After asking the other moderators, we've decided that the entire article on Augusto Pinochet needs to be cleaned up to be less about the Real Life topic. That's not what TV Tropes is for. Our Useful Notes articles are intended to help authors of fiction write accurately about the topics in question. They are not a place to take sides on issues or hash out interminable arguments about how awful people are or whether they were justified or responding in kind or blah blah blah.
We'll remove your suspensions, but before you start Righting Great Wrongs again, let's start a Trope Repair Shop topic to get it fixed.
