This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Actually, that was the wrong trope.
- The Bluebeard: Bill in The Locked Room, who killed his wives before dating the protagonists’ mother and then tried to kill them as well.
Again, I can’t add stuff for the other tropes if I’m suspended.
Apparently you’re supposed to put some witty quote here. The point of asking for it here is to prove you are capable of writing good examples. Your suspension isn't going to get released until we can be sure of that.
Now, that write-up is a little skimpy, but it's sufficient. To the other points - if someone sends you a notifier alerting you to a mistake, you have to keep your temper and not lash out at others. Notifiers are standard templates, meant to assist in identifying and instructing tropers who have erred.
As for the Characters/ subpages, those are really best utilized when the work page is Trope Overdosed, but a good rule of thumb is that you shouldn't start with a Characters subpage. Develop the work page first to a decent size, and later on split out the Characterization tropes into their own subpage. Given that Shivers is rife with zero-context examples, your primary focus should be on overhauling that to be sufficient.
Lastly, this was your second suspension, in a fairly brief timeframe. We typically strike someone off as a lost cause when they get a third suspension. If your suspension is released here, and you end up back here, that will likely be a permanent ban.
Do you have any further questions? Are we clear on all these matters?
I am sorry for edit-warring. I made mistakes. I do try to avoid it, and I did plan on taking those examples in question to discussion and ATT. I apologize.
We're clear. You're right, it'll probably take a while for me to make the Characters page. I'm not too familiar with too many of the books. I think I'll go more in depth with the explanations of the tropes when I do. For the moment, I'll add explanations for the page. I also apologise for all those PMs. I really have no excuse for them aside from my pettiness and I promise not to send any more like them.
Apparently you’re supposed to put some witty quote here.~nombretomado I said I would accept any condition, and it still stands. There is no place for uncivility on this site (or anywhere for that matter), and I have learned my lesson and paid the price for it. Moving forward, I will be purely methodical in my interactions with other tropers; where there was hostility and condescension before, there will now be none of that. The decision now rests on you.
"They played us like a DAMN FIDDLE!" — Kazuhira Miller, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainLike I said previously, I even wrote the summary of the said page and tropes with contexts. All three tropes, I recall, have contexts. And also, did I get suspended because of attempting to create a deleted page? I’ve asked this already but no one answered.
I click edit page for Lumpen Novelita and got a suspended message instead. Why is this? What did I do wrong? I don’t understand how this works.
The said page was written by me before it was cutted. I tried edit the page back and got the suspended message, instead.
My apologies for the edit-warring. Admittedly also did this on the Muppets Most Wanted pages as well.
If you want an explanation for the messages, I felt annoyed about people acting so holier than thou and superior to other tropers without ever adding any examples themselves. Nonetheless, that’s not an excuse.
Apparently you’re supposed to put some witty quote here. They were not talking to you. Also, conversations between suspended parties is against the rules in the thread header.
~AnoBakaDesu, you are released. I do not want to see you back here. Please comport yourself well.
~melonypineapple, I think you shot yourself in the foot a bit with this:
Providing advice or making corrections on your examples is not an example of targeted condescension. The whole nature of a wiki is that your examples are open for others to edit. Notifiers are also an integral part of the community. No one is the perfect editor. If you spend any amount of time here, your edits are going to get tweaked.
If you are seriously upset at the prospect of someone doing that, then you will not be able to enjoy your time here.
~FragWall, these are the only three examples you had on the stub work page (now-cut), Literature. From The Fatherland With Love.
- Doorstopper: It was 672 pages long.
- Loads And Loads Of Characters: There are over 100 characters.
- Those Wacky Nazis: The bodyguard in the beginning.
Of the three examples, only Doorstopper can be considered as having context.
Given your insistence that you have followed our guidelines on work creation and examples with proper context -
I will give you one chance to respond here with new write-ups for the Loads And Loads Of Characters and Those Wacky Nazis examples. If you don't do it right, you are permanently banned. Do not rush this.

~Revolutionary_Jack, I'm glad to see you understand the edit war part as well. The other part is the shoehorning, i.e. Square Peg Round Trope. In general, anything that inspires overly-lengthy screeds (in the example itself or edit reasons) tends to come with emotional baggage and a desire by the troper to see their perspective validated.
~MichaelSar, give me a quick runthrough of what you should have done instead to make sure we're clear.
The attempt and intent was to give as many valid reasons as possible for that. But yeah certainly emotion played a part in that. I'll try and keep things rational and simple from here on. I prefer being that way. I'm sorry for shoehorning stuff.
You are released. I believe there is a conversation ongoing in the page's discussion, if you'd like to join it.
Loads and Loads of Characters: There are over 50 named characters and most of these are major characters. There are three pages prior to the book that list down all of the prominent characters and their brief descriptions.
Those Wacky Nazis: One of the NPO staff escorting Nobue is this. He does, however, resembles more of an ordinary/harmless bald-headed staff rather than a skinhead, given that he wore a vinyl windbreaker; the caption on the back saying “HARMONY AND SECURITY ARE UP TO YOU AND ME” with a picture of two small animals shaking hands and a tattoo on one temple saying “LOVE & PEACE”.
- Let’s not forget that most if not all of the NPO staff was associated with either foreign mafias or yakuzas.

Well, I probably should've instead discussed Leonard's being listed as a Nice Guy in the "Discussion" section before changing it. Leonard's a pretty divisive character, so I probably should've expected the Edit War...
Hi guys,
I was suspended due to causing an Edit War on Game of Thrones S8E5: "The Bells". I humbly request for the restoration of my editing privilege. I will abstain from restoring deleted passages and causing Edit War again. I will use Ask The Troper when disagreement happens.
Hope you guys find that manner okay. I'd be glad if anyone can help commend on how to better contribute to the wiki.
Thank you very much!

I've known about my suspension for a while now, and would like the opportunity to edit again. I don't quite know exactly what was wrong, I thought I was giving examples of some tropes that fit with said tropes. I understand I made some mistakes here and there, but I would like a chance for redemption and to know how accurate with a trope I have to be for it stick without making any mistakes that gets me suspended and wondering what's the deal.

You said a ban means "come talk to us", but how can I talk if I'm banned from Messages? I think I was banned because I repeatedly asked the same question. However, I only did this because nobody answered the question. It doesn't seem like a valid reason to ban me! Just as a reminder my question was: How many people have to agree to change the name of a trope?

~FragWall, your write-ups, particularly for Those Wacky Nazis, don't meet the trope description. I'm sorry, but even with extending the example, you're simply not meeting the standards we've set for contributing productively. I think we're going to have to part ways. Your suspension will not be released.
~MichaelSar, right, we have policies for what to do if someone removes your example, but if you right off the bat feel the example may be contentious, the discussion page, ATT, and the Is this an example?
thread are all great tools at your disposal to double-check. Since you understand the issue, I'll release your suspension.
~buihuuduyet, seems like you get it. As above, ATT, the discussion page, and Is this an example?
are all there for this kind of dispute. You're released as well.
~Infernoid101, it seems like you have a couple issues, primarily with example indentation, but also overuse of bolding/italicizing and some grammatical mistakes.
If you check out How to Write an Example, one of our guidelines is to avoid prolific emphasis markup.
~lrosesullivan, you were given an answer here
, that you (1 person) finding it confusing is not good evidence for renaming it. Your rejoinder (provided in a PM to every single mod) and in Ask the Tropers
was that there are two people who find it confusing.
Please see Everything You Wanted to Know About Changing Names. A trope name change, as you've requested, needs to have a good argument. You did not present a good argument.
Putting aside the fact your rejoinder was extremely insufficient (going from "1 person found it confusing" to "2 people found it confusing" is not persuasive), it seems you have quite a single-issue wonk as well, which is what ultimately landed you here.

Could we make it any clearer?
Once again, I am so sorry for re-adding useless edits for the SHAZAM! (2019) page. I know I got suspended twice already, so I clearly deserve this. I did tend to over-exaggerate about Marilyn Batson's character. Sure, what she did was thoughtless, but she certainly isn’t malicious by any means. If anything, she’s definitely better than the Breyer bullies or even Sivana's abusive family members. I now understand that Moral Event Horizon was a stretch for the character. I promise not to make anymore counter-arguments like the last three times. Please give me another chance by releasing me from this suspension. If I do this one more time, then you would have every right to expel me from editing.

Write it here.
It was not the only example. More than 10 of the 15 examples you added to Literature.Shivers had insufficient context.
