Edit banned/Suspended - would like to edit again.

Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Hi. Got an editing suspension. Usually edit on smaller pages that are less strictly enforced and where the discussion pages aren't really used. I have reviewed the"edit war" policy and will use the discussion page to dispute edits/deletions in the future.

So i got an ban because of my edits over the hype involving Captain Marvel in the MCU, perhaps my edits were better placed in another area. I was mostly sick of everybody droning on with how she just showed up and was beyond everybody without having to actually demonstrate it. I would like to resume my contribuions where i geel they are needed and the discusions involving whether or not she is as powerful as stated can be settled when the movie premieres tomorw and i see the movie in the morning

~All Knowing Editor: I'm not quite sure where you get the "without having to demonstrate it" idea, unless you skipped Captain Marvel (2019), but the point is that our articles are not for you to vent your spleen. If you're going to be one of the toxic people trying to ruin it for everyone else, please leave this site.

~Elemental Macaroon: An Edit War is an edit war, no matter where it takes place (in this case Characters.RWBY Salems Faction). Adding something back after it has been deleted, or vice versa, is grounds for suspension unless you discuss it first. Understood?

~Yukaphile: You are still failing to be convincing.

Yes, you promised to leave the YMMV page alone, but started complaining on the WMG page instead. This is not an improvement. It's like someone tells you to stop annoying them by whistling loudly, so you start annoying them by groaning loudly instead. You're obeying the literal request while continuing essentially the same behavior.

The fact that you continue not to realize that your complaints are biased, and continue not to make any real attempt to understand what natter is, means we cannot trust you to edit responsibly.

~Fighteer

We are not "any other wiki". We are TV Tropes, and our rules are ours alone to be concerned about.

This wiki likes to throw on a casual front compared to other wikis, yet warning users before banning them is too lenient to do?

It is on you to learn the rules, not us to force feed them to you. The applicable rule here is Edit War.

Warning users before throwing the ban hammer at them is "force feeding" the rules? It takes less than a minute to do, and does far more to educate users and retain them than a "ban first ask questions later" procedure.

The point of these conversations is to determine if you can be trusted to resume the activity that you were suspended from. To that end, you would do well to address the problems, not accuse us of mistreating you.

Yet for the so-called "problem", there is still no specified examples of actual edit warring from me, and I think it's quite poignant for users to call out improper banning procedure. Really, is warning a user before banning them indefinitely that hard to do?

Now, would you like to try again with a little more tact, or would you like to rage quit? Either is fine with us.

You're going to give me some snide here on lacking tact, yet I've been quite civil in my points, while you'll be here telling a user to rage quit and how you'll be fine with them leaving. That is some unbecoming behavior for a moderator, does the rest of the moderators and administrators here really condone this sort of behavior from the moderating team?

I get that they're complaints, and I can see how I broke the rules, and I can even concede the bias angle (I really do get it, even if I wasn't deliberately trying to insult them, I can see how you said I did, though my position is still they're a big company now, and that's one of their goals, to make money, less artistic than it is profit-driven, I think that about all of them, not a fan of capitalism, so that probably bled over, but that's neither here nor there). In retrospect, I do understand all that. I don't know what else to say other than you mods seemingly want to penalize me even though I've admitted to all this, and... well, tbh, assuming we resolve this, I'm really not planning to get involved in Death Battle at all anymore on this site, or anything Goku vs. Superman related (again on this site), plus I also said I'd ask the mods if I got confused on anything. That and I'm taking a one-year hiatus. What else needs to be said? What do I have to do to prove this is true? Sign it in blood? That may be sarcastic, sorry, but... I literally don't know what else to say. I could also literally accept another "screw up and you're wiki-banned permanently" ruling. What else can I add to all this?

I recognize that I rogue launched the page 'Zero to Hero' against the general opinion. I understand now that I misinterpreted the consensus due to a desire to see the page launch. In the future I will not act so brashly against the general consensus and try my best to coordinate with other tropers. I would like to regain my editing privileges and become a contributing member to this community again.

[up] Wow, you're close to the record for longest appeal, at nearly seven years. I'm afraid the answer now is the same as it was then. No. Especially since you ban evaded a whole bunch.

A trope page should be launched by the creator of the page (or at least with their approval) and when the community is in agreement that the body paragraphs and examples are up to par.

So I was banned over a week ago for rogue launching a trope (I think that was the reason). I thought I was genuinely being helpful since it said it was ready to go and I also crosswicking it. I guess I failed to read that rule properly.

Any chance I could come back? I now know that I'm not supposed to do that.

I was angry at The Homestuck Epilogues and got into a minor Edit War over what constituted Canon Defilement and Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.

I apologize, and will avoid making emotionally charged edits in the future. There are better places to work out one's aggression. I've also read the policies on edit warring more closely and realize that the third edit in the sequence is what's suspendable, and won't breach that boundary again.

A mod removed the entries because there needed to be sufficient evidence that much of the readership felt the same way. I believe that such evidence exists (even though I'm personally warming to the work), but in light of this incident, I'll refrain from getting involved.

May I know why am I suspended? I love surfing and editing pages on this website and I am more than happy to be able to edit again. It is my favorite thing to do and the only thing I have. What did I do that got me suspended in the first place?

Also I got a message notification. It wouldn’t even let me read it.

Your suspension comes from PM incivility. One of our cardinal rules is "don't be a dick". We don't take kindly to namecalling. If you object to someone's edit, be civil about it.

Also, for reference: that notification was from a PM automatically sent to those posting in FAQ for the first time. I'm sure you'll get another for this post pinging you as well.

I apologize. Sincerely to the editor. I am very mad that the editor just cut two pages that I’ve laid efforts down. For one of the deleted pages, I’ve waited eagerly for the wikiword to change the name only to come back with the page being deleted. I normally create a page, add pictures and descriptions and left them for awhile before I come back and add more stuff including tropes, expanding it. She could have expanded it instead of delete it. Just deleting without the original creator (editor, I mean) knowing it is intolerable for me. If I add the two pages, I am scared that she just going to do the same thing again. I am not happy seeing my hard work being deleted just because it was “empty in contents” or “unnecessary”.

I also have second thoughts after sending that message. So I delete it and send another one, this one has no swearing and I asked calmly instead. Again, I apologize, especially to the editor. I’ll try not to do that again in the future. And if I may ask, how long does my suspension will last?

EDIT: I need to add something. I forgot to mention that I was so furious when I learned that my pages got cut. Then I sent her the “incivility” message you were talking about. I am not trying to justify my action, I am only pointing out so you can get a clear picture why I sent that.

I'm suspended. I don't know why. Can this be fixed? Apparently it's been in place for a long time.

I got a suspend by editing the Creepy Castle page, only to add the character of Butterfly on the Action Girl trope. I edited that trope since I found on the kickstarter page of the game that said character was a girl. And since she was an Action Girl, I wanted to add it.

I understand that my english is not good, but I want to help with the community as much as I can and I'll start the "Get help with English" topic more often.

Thanks and regards

@Frag - Prior to your rude e-mail, you had received two PMs both pointing you towards problems with your written examples. You didn't respond to those two tropers, so why the attitude towards this one?

@savage - Your suspension is several years old, for launching a page with only a single line, and with no discussion. It doesn't look like you've been active since that ban was made, either. Why the sudden return, and why should we lift your ban on editing?

@Hijikata - Your ban is only on making wiki edits. The common thing we do for people with spelling and gramman issues is to leave the editing ban in place until the troper has been able to show, using the Help With English thread, that their writing has improved enough we don't need people to fix their mistakes. If you have page additions you want to see added, post them in that thread, and when you've reached a point that your examples don't need correction, come back here and ask to have your ban lifted.
