Edit banned/Suspended - would like to edit again.

Go To

This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

You have yet to acknowledge your specific mistakes and that you understand what would make you a good citizen.

This is the second time you have posted without addressing the issues Fighteer laid out here. If you respond to this post and still fail to specifically respond, you will be permanently suspended.

If I guessed correctly, I believe I was suspended for adding a certain set of tropes to Yandere Dev's character page on Yandere Simulator - Other Characters. I failed to realize that the page and it's tropes are for the character Yandere Dev potrays himself as rather than how he is in real life.

If that is the case it won't happen again and it is safe to lift my suspension.

That's a large misstep. It should be obvious that character sheets are about the fictional character's tropes, not the portrayer/actor.

Because that is a fairly essential understanding of this wiki, and you have a decent amount of edits to your name, you can understand our perplexion at these edits. Can you explain what you were thinking?

Well, as I said before, I was unaware of this rule until now (especially since this particular character is an Author Avatar).

To be quiet honest I don't even think that edit was worthy of a suspension since it definitely doesn't count as vandalism, but that's just my opinion.

We suspend for egregious rules violations, not just vandalism. Fully misconstruing what is tropeable material for a character subpage qualifies. You could use a good refresh on What Goes Where on the Wiki.

In addition, Berserk Button, Manchild, and Greed are all labeled as No Real Life Examples, Please!, so it's not just a question of misunderstanding that real life people are not characters in a work, it's applying tropes that are specifically barred from being applied to real people.

Have you guys even bothered to see my previous contributions to countless pages across this wiki? I already have a good semblance of what goes where around here. Don't add real life examples to characters, got it.

So.... can I be un-suspended now so I can go on to more important matters than bantering over a silly little mistake?

Sure, as long as you understand and avoid recommitting this mistake in the future.

We post our rules in Administrivia for clear reference, and violations of certain rules are not given a pass because you avoided violating others. Happy troping.

You also did not give any effort into contributing meaningfully to the clean-up thread, instead throwing out no-effort posts.

I will be quite honest with you; a complete release is not going to happen at this time. At best, you will only be allowed to post in the Help with English thread to see if you can get your grammar improved. You will post there edits you would like to make to the main wiki, and those who assist you in that thread can post on your behalf.

If you agree, you can and should use this opportunity to lurk in the forums (including any clean-up threads) to understand how to be a constructive member of the community.

Instead of always putting the words in the title together like this": "Arbitrary Trope", it should look like this: "Arbitrary Trope". I'll make it a habit to do so, and I will admit it looks much better that way in editing mode.

Alright. Please make good use of Example Indentation in Trope Lists for reference moving forward, and don't be reticent about asking for help in ATT or elsewhere.

Given the lack of punctuation in your post you still need to work on it.

You've got problems with grammar (particularly run-on sentences) and don't seem to understand what is appropriate context for an example.

Please see Zero-Context Example, then come back here and explain what you have been doing wrong.

Do I have to be more specific with the examples?

nombretomado (Season 1) Relationship Status: [TOP SECRET]
#17171: Jul 27th 2018 at 10:39:53 PM

Examples have to be written in such a way that someone who doesn't know the work themselves, can still understand why this is an example of the trope.

One of your edits actually has good context. Here:

  • It's All About Me: Gordon seems to have a very narcissistic view of the world often viewing things that happen as being directly related to him or judging how they could impact him personaly. In Freeman's Mind 2 he doesn't even remember the names of any of his co-workers except Kliener.

It explains how Gordon is an example of It's All About Me by providing specific information of something that happens in the work - he doesn't remember the names of his co-workers.

On the other hand, this edit of yours is Zero-Context:

It explains nothing about how this character interacts with the Combine. Do you see the difference?

VampireNewl Since: Oct, 2017
#17172: Jul 28th 2018 at 1:32:14 AM

Yeah, I thought that might be one of them, so would something like "Serves as the Literal face of the Combine and the one actively trying to stop freeman" be better?

nombretomado (Season 1) Relationship Status: [TOP SECRET]
#17173: Jul 28th 2018 at 7:45:26 AM

"Literal face" is a bit vague of phrasing - "Serves as the public face of the Combine's actions" (without knowing the work) gets more across in terms of their dynamic. "The one actively trying to stop Freeman" could be improved with making it clear who Freeman is - i.e., "The one actively trying to stop the hero, Freeman, from dismantling the Combine's ship" - again, I don't know the work, but it would be appropriate to specify what the struggle is over.

Thanks for the advise. For the example though I wouldn't be able to specify anything about the conflict because that hasn't come up in the show yet. would just "The one actively trying to stop the hero, Freeman" work?

That would be acceptable. You should ask yourself this before posting the edit: "Would a random troper be able to understand how this exemplifies the trope, without going to another page?"

That leaves your grammar issues. The good news is that you are understandable, but you are still committing noticeable errors and are prone to run-on sentences. Let's gauge how well you do on your own. This is one of your more error-ridden edits. Please rewrite it to correct any grammatical and/or spelling errors.
