This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

You have received many notifiers on your natter habit, but you never took those notifiers to heart.
Hi guys, since the suspension was a bit delayed I’m guessing it’s for the pm, not the ATT thread? I know not to be rude or attack-y, and I’ve been regretting some of the things I said (because of the regret and I guess some doubt in my own judgment I already messages nombretomado to really check if even things I thought innocuous were rude). Usually if I’m in a bad mood I remind myself of what’s appropriate and I clearly missed that. But I am planning on just not letting things get out of hand, including not replying in situations where I guess temperatures are rising, if for nothing more than because when I look back on what I said an hour later I feel like crap.
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!You should have handled that edit dispute better. Resorting to personal attacks is not how we do things around here. In addition, on the edit in question on Series.Greys Anatomy, the indentation you insisted on violates our indentation policy. See this page for more information.
This is your third overall ban. We'll need to be convinced that you deserve another chance if you want to edit again.
Yeh, the two previous bans were both for edit warring, one 4 years ago I think, and the other more recently but when I had forgotten I had made the first edit. I hope you see that I, well, haven’t been edit warring. My interpretation of the indentation rule was not thought through, and I was going to rewrite it, a comment I made in ATT said as much. The personal attacks I would normally never go there - even if I am thinking something I know when saying it would be inappropriate. I feel perhaps I haven’t been as collected as normal because recently trying to use the site with all the obtrusive ads (also going to take the time to say sorry for the report I made about them carrying more of an annoyed tone that strictly necessary) can be infuriating. To remedy issues such as this, I’ll monitor myself with a time out period if I feel that any response I write in that moment might get out of hand, and I obviously want to edit again but I understand if you want to, for example, suggest limitations to my ATT usage; I would follow them fully, I genuinely don’t want to be a smear on the community.
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Over my nattering habit, It's part of how I act in real life, due to mental issues which I am not exactly going to discuss at length.
I didn't realise that was what I was being told off about, and apologise for not noticing.
I highly doubt I can 'fix' the problem, and don't mind if you keep me suspended. At least I now know why I've been suspended, which feels a lot better. I enjoy the site, and wiki-walk it regularly.
I haven't used this account in a while and forgot why exactly I was banned. Could you... um... unban me? I promise that whatever did I won't do again. I've been getting help with my anger issues too. I'm much better than I was when I first got banned.
Foxtrope was found ban evading as Nutgunner and both accounts have been bounced.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Fighteer12th can I please have my editing privilege back? I've learned my lesson and it's been so long. I won't make the same dumb mistakes.
~Nostalgiachick467: As far as I'm concerned you have given us no reason to believe that you aren't yet another ban evasion sock of Summer Days 128. You've used at least one other account for this purpose and tried (but failed) to register three more. You have repeatedly shown that you cannot follow our rules or our standards for what constitutes good wiki contributions. Your ban is permanent.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Gouken20xx: I can respect your desire not to cause problems by continuing to edit. I would like to state for the record that all tropers are held to the same standards on our wiki regardless of any handicap they may have.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Ry Cyber: We don't conduct Edit Banned conversations via PM; it says so in the pinned header post.
What we want is for you to acknowledge that your opinion (no matter how many citations you use to back it up) is not the definitive truth on an audience reaction like Broken Base. We have a cleanup topic, which I linked previously, where you can go to discuss issues you may have with any particular example and get consensus. That's how we roll around here.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hello, my name is Ryan (as you can probably guess based on my username) and I was recently edit suspended regarding edits made to the "two hit wonder" page. i believe Lorde to be an example of the trope. As it is, she has had two huge hits (those being "Royals" and "Team") on CHR but has struggled outside of that. I have edited her in a few times while another user has continuously edited her out. When a moderator ruled that Lorde didn't qualify as an example, it set a precedent. If she didn't belong on that page, neither did any artist whose 3rd biggest single was bigger than Lorde's 3rd biggest single (that being "Green Light"). And thus I made it my business to remove any artists whose 3rd biggest single was bigger than "Green Light." Those artists being Carly Rae Jepsen ("I Really Like You"), Mike Posner ("Please Don't Go"), Iggy Azalea ("Beg For It"), fun. ("Carry On") and Soulja Boy ("Turn My Swag On"). So I would like two things to happen now: 1. Naturally I would like to be unbanned and 2. I would like to hear your case for how Lorde doesn't qualify as a two hit wonder yet all those other artists do. And no, the idea that Lorde is a "good" artist (which is subjective and has no bearing on the definition of a "hit") is not a valid argument.

~Ryanisbetter: I'm not going to sit here and have a debate with you over what constitutes a "two-hit wonder" (or a "one-hit wonder" or any other related classification), nor whether Lorde is a "good artist". That's not the point of this conversation.
The problems are as follows:
- You were edit warring, which gets you suspended immediately regardless of other considerations.
- You were ignoring requests to discuss the matter outside the wiki articles.
- You were engaged in "revenge editing", wherein you deleted other examples since you couldn't get what you wanted.
Until we resolve those problems, none of what you just said matters at all.
Edit: Another problem has cropped up, which is that you seem to have a sockpuppet account (xdart7938286). That has now been suspended as well, just to be safe. You didn't try to use it after your suspension, which is good, because otherwise we'd have to get a bit harsher.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Fighteer:
- The other guy was also "edit warring" then.
- Okay then please direct me to where you do want me to discuss it because I would like to discuss it.
- Not because I "couldn't get what I wanted." But because as I mentioned, ruling that Lorde isn't an example sets a precedent. The other artists I mentioned have just as good if not better cases for removal from the article.

The other party(ies) correctly reported the issue on Ask The Tropers and asked for advice; hence were not suspended.
In any event, again, I am not going to debate the definition of the trope with you here. Our wiki has multiple areas for discussing things, such as the article Discussion pages, private messages, the aforementioned Ask The Tropers, and these forums. Only when consensus has been arrived at should the article be edited to its final, agreed-upon state.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Ryanisbetter: I see you've been making an effort to address the problems with the trope in the appropriate forum topic. With that in mind, I'll release your suspension, but the lesson had better stick.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I respect that you're probably talking it out, but since you've been so active I was wondering if you have any updates for me?
OH MY GOD; MY PARENTS ARE GARDENIIIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!!Pardon me, I would like to ask why my editing privilege got suspended? I don't really know much about the rules here, so could anyone please tell me what did I do wrong? And if that's the case, could you please unban my account? I'll make sure I won't do the same mistakes that you mention. Thank you.
~AltlaManiac: Your edits contain significant grammatical errors. We insist on a reasonable quality of writing from our tropers, as it affects how our site is perceived, and poor writing causes extra work for other tropers to clean up.
An example from Angry Birds Transformers:
- The Pigbots are downplayed of this in the comic adaptation. In the game, they're robotized victim of the Eggbots to assist them opposing both Autobirds & Deceptihogs. In the comic however, they're on deceptihogs side, who eventually also teamed-up with the Autobirds to stop the Eggbots.
- "downplayed of this" is wrong. You might have meant to say "downplayed versions of this". It's also a bit of a style error, as you shouldn't lead examples with buzzwords.
- "they're robotized victim" is pluralized wrong. It should be "victims" to agree with the pronoun.
- "to assist them opposing" creates a run-on sentence. You need a prepositional phrase, such as "assist them with opposing", but the whole thing is written awkwardly.
- "they're on deceptihogs side" has several problems. "Deceptihogs" is a proper noun and must be capitalized; you also need "the" before it. Lastly, it's a possessive so requires an apostrophe. "They're on the Deceptihogs' side..."
- "who eventually also teamed-up": "Teamed up" does not require a hyphen, and the sentence is written in past tense; we use historical present tense in wiki writing.
When someone has this many problems, we usually refer them to the Help with English
forum topic, where they can get help with proofreading and grammar. You won't be allowed to edit again until you show that you can do better.
~Lakingsif: The mods have to talk this over. You're on strike three and that's usually it. Exceptional contributors may get another chance, but this'll end in tragedy for all of us if you can't rein in the rudeness.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Of course, thanks, and I promise I will, I plan to hold back on engaging altogether.
Okay then. We'll let you go, but be careful. If you cause an issue again, you're out of here.

Not sure exactly why I was suspended, but If it's about the more than occasional edit spam, I will admit that, yes, I do edit things then go 'Whoops' a minute later when I notice I made an error.
I am not exactly brilliant with using the site, and might have done some clangers, but most of the time, I post what comes into my head at the time, and sometimes I don't think before I act. If there's a particular thing you want me to fix, sure, I'll look into it.
