This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

~Billowy Talpine: It doesn't work that way. You need to show that you can improve your English writing before we can let you edit again. We have a forum topic
where you can post examples you'd like to add to the wiki so they can be proofread. Please use it.
Hello.
I've been recently banned over an edit I made on a Naruto character page. I didn't realize that there was an edit war going on regarding my edit, and missed the warnings on the page.
What I have to do in order to be able to edit again?
A moderator added a warning in the edit history, asking to visit the discussion page
in regards to the Canon Immigrant entry that you readded. It appears that you either a) never checked the history, or b) did check it but ignored the mod warning.
Now, if we lift your suspension, will you join the discussion?
Yeah, I'll check that discussion, as well as any other discussions or warnings left by a moderator on a page before editing. I mean, I was never involved in any edit war, and this one was just by accident. It won't happen again.
Hello, my case has not been reviewed yet, the only output I have received so far in this thread being only topically related to the case and not really factoring in actual judgement of my capability to correct my editorial style (for which I already have identified the offending faults and explained how I may correct them). May I request that someone start reviewing my case please ?
~Splatpope: This is a website about storytelling devices. Real Life is seldom appropriate for us to cover, and only if it doesn't touch off an argument as your entry did. Never mind that there is no proof for what you claimed on that page.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI was banned from the Launch Pad for launching multiple potential trope pages. Sorry, I had no idea that only the creator of a draft is allowed to launch it. I won't make that mistake again, so can I please have my ban lifted?
I was banned for making an edit on the page for Kingdom of Heaven. By fixing what I thought was a formatting error, I accidentally created a Zero Context Example. Since I realize what I did wrong and don't intend to edit that page again, may I please have my ban lifted?
~Bouken Dutch: We are quite serious about Trope Launch Pad protocol. This isn't some sort of game. What I can't figure out is why anyone would think it's okay to run around randomly launching tropes. We can turn your wiki editing back on, but trusting you in TLP is a different matter.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Cloud Cuckoo Clock: In removing the comment markup on that example, you ignored the comments in the article source explaining why it was done that way. You have also misused spoiler tags to create an All White Entry on Last-Minute Hookup, and you ignored private messages telling you about these problems. You've been a member of this wiki long enough that you should understand basic markup and formatting rules, so what gives?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Fighteer: Honestly, since most of my edits on this site have been minor spelling/punctuation errors, I never took the time to learn about the various comment markups. I received a PM about the comment markup removal, but after asking what I did wrong and getting a reply explaining the markup, I thought an additional response wasn't necessary.
For the All White Entry, I now realize I misused the spoiler tags, but I don't remember ever receiving a PM about it.
Fighteer: It was a beginners mistake. I had honestly no idea drafts with enough examples and hats couldn't be launched by anyone other than the original author. I also find it strange that I was immediately given a ban, without any warning or even a message to tell me I was doing something illegal.
Hey, just checking in like asked. I got edit suspended. I went back and checked my most recent ones but I don't see anything that was modified, or reported, had feedback submitted etc.
If I broke any rules, I'm sorry, it was unintentional. I'd like to be able to edit again, and I'd also like to know what I did wrong, so I can avoid it in the future.
~Cloud Cuckoo Clock: It's true that you weren't sent a notifier about the spoiler tagging, but it's the same basic thing — the policies are there to learn, but you haven't done so. I'd recommend looking over Welcome to TV Tropes and How to Write an Example if you haven't already, as it'd prevent you from running into more problems like this. I'll release your suspension now.
~Bouken Dutch: We've had lots of problems with Trope Launch Pad, because it's still way too easy for people to just launch whatever they want without any real quality control. New tropers coming in and pushing the buttons randomly don't help things. I'll release your suspensions, but please try to learn the protocols if you want to keep participating.
~Dreamsepilogue: Your account was used to post spam, or something that looked like it, in Ask The Tropers. Did you get your password stolen? Your IP history shows that you may have been using proxies, something we strongly discourage.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Fighteer: Yes, I think you're right. I've never been to the Ask The Tropers page. I've reset my password to be safe, and if you think there's anything further I should do, let me know.
As far as the proxy thing, I don't use proxies, but I do edit from three different PC's, one of which's network I don't manage, so it might be that, I'm not sure.
Lifting that suspension, thus.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIt's been twenty days. Can I resume troping? Please?

I was suspended for being a part of an Edit War. Can my suspension be lifted?
Perhaps. It depends on your answer - What would have been the correct thing to do instead of warring?
Try to start a discussion. And in my defense, I did try to do that.

And then you retorted in the edit reasons, and the whole thing escalated. It takes two to make an edit war, and if you had taken the correct response first (reporting the issue), you would not also have been suspended. Obviously, the other troper is also suspended, but we'd like to know that if we release you, you will take this lesson to heart.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Can I be unsuspended now?
I think I've learned my ways now.
Please?
