This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.

If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.

The Forum Rules apply here.

Don'ts

  • Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
  • Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
  • Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
  • Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
  • Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

I got banned a few years ago and i sent an appeal here (If the post actually went through). I've checked today and i haven't been unbanned, so i guess my post didn't, well, post. So i'm here to ask to be unbanned and I promise to the one person on the Puyo Puyo Tv Tropes page that I will remember to put full stops at the end of my entries

~Wizzkidwas: You posted here and were immediately replied to.

Your promise to use full stops rings a little hollow considering you omitted one there, again. Definitely some situational irony going on.

I said at the end of my entries, I only appear in the puyo tropes page and for such a small community, any kind of contribution is rather large, especially now that a localised game is being released soon and therefore a chance at growing the community. I have a passion for that series and the community and I want to give back, and this is one of the ways i can.

It's nice that you want to contribute, but that is not relevant if your contributions will be of poor quality. We want well-written articles on our site.

I also notice that almost all of your edits were to the Funny and Heartwarming subpages of that work, which are not important.

Alright, i won't argue the case any further, if you feel i should stay banned, then i cannot change that decision, nor will I do anything to circumvent it.

We'd rather not ban you, if you can write properly. What's so difficult about capitalization and punctuation?

I have never edited a page in my entire time being a member of Tv Tropes. I was trying to, for the first time, but it said that I had my editing privileges banned, when I've never made a post.

Lifted. Seems like you made an account with a name that was suspended seven years ago for vandalism by page blanking. Your account is more recent, so it most likely is not the same person.

I appear to have been suspended mostly due to not knowing how to format my examples, as I am relatively new to TV Tropes. For instance, these included indentation and links and also including Breather Level (which appears to be YMMV) in Kamek's Revenge (which I was a creator of). I have now read the "Example Indentation In Trope Lists" and "Text Formatting Rules" pages in Administratrivia. In future edits, I will bear these in mind.

~Robert Mainland Okapi: You've been suspended since October, 2014 for violations of the Handling Spoilers policy and poor grammar — specifically, run-on sentences and improper punctuation. We'd be happy to let you edit again if you can solve these problems. There was no need to wait for two and a half years.

It has been a month or two since I was suspended from editing and I would like to have it lifted. I know why I was suspended, for adding a ton of pages that were blank and I promise not to do it again.

~Sean Devine: We have a couple of problems here. Let's run down the list.

  • As you say, making junk stub pages.
  • Recreating said junk pages after they were cut.
  • Using a sockpuppet account to conduct vandalism (Queen-Roger).
  • Since you used your main account to edit after your sock was banned, that's also ban evasion.

As your vandalism and edit warring were apparently intentional, and you committed the aggravating offenses of sock puppetry and ban evasion, you've managed to use up all your strikes in one go. The moderators who suspended you were remarkably lenient considering that we usually go straight to the perma-ban in these cases, so I guess you get exactly one chance to explain yourself. Make it convincing.

Okay, well I've been using the site for 3 years and have done a lot of work on various pages that I still think need some work and I would hate to lose progress on those. I also made that other account simply because I wanted people to find me easier because that's the name I use on other social media sites. I made all the junk pages and such because I never really read the rules and thought that I could simply make the pages, leave it blank for now and then come back to it later or come back and find that someone else had put something on it, but again I now realize that that's not the case and I'm once again very sorry for making junk pages and spamming. I swear that I really did do this out of ignorance and not malice or a desire to destroy anything, I just wanted to add a lot of stuff to some pages and started doing this.

I was suspended yesterday for making edits to a page made by someone with an extreme bias towards my fanfic. Now, normally this wouldn't bother me, but I was under the impression that the authors of a fic would have more say in removing incorrect tropes, but I understand now that I was wrong. I do have a genuine, curious question though. This may sound incredibly stupid, but while I was expecting a tvtropes page on this fic eventually, I wasn't expecting it to be made by someone who doesn't fully understand the story, and has an incredibly biased view. They have come to us directly and said multiple things like 'I know this isn't the intent, but I like to pretend that: etc' or 'why does _ want to _' when they actually don't. And, unfortunately, it isn't a matter of Author VS reader opinion, they've literally not read things correctly and have misunderstood things. They also do not properly mark a large number of pretty big spoilers, which I tried to fix but had them removed within the day. Also, I know there's a bit on 'if they see the trope there, it goes on the page', but some of them are literally completely incorrect. For example, I can't have you comb a 500K+ story for proof of this, but there is NO example of 'We Really Do Care' in The Harvester. I read up on the tropes page, and it isn't there. The main person editing the page seems to think that just the trope's name is what applies, and then gives an incredibly vague example. They've already shown that they don't even understand basic plot points like who was trying to kill whom. These are kind of big details. I'm not trying to sound whiny or entitled or whatever, and, write me off if you want. But this page has existed for about three days and it's already giving me anxiety because it's incorrect and starting to get spotted with unmarked spoilers. And honestly, it does kind of suck that two authors can't request a page be taken down when it's being edited by like, two people that we're pretty sure are pals. I also didn't know there was a rule against requesting things be run by us on our blog. That was my bad. I did not have any intentions of removing tropes that do apply, and I certainly wasn't adding any that DON'T apply. I misunderstood 'fearinducedhallucination' and will make sure to more carefully check tropes and if they actually are listed AS tropes on the site. I'm fine with the page staying up, but only if it's treated properly by people who understand the story and don't have personal bias at the forefront of their mind. Heck, this person didn't even care to list that there are TWO authors to the story, which is kind of a big deal.

~Sean Devine: You've been a troper for three years and have over one thousand edits. That you did not understand the protocols for creating pages is rather hard to swallow. Even if you'd never seen the policy on edit suspensions, you could have looked at it after your second account was hit with one. So we aren't buying the ignorance play.

~Nyumnums: Please learn how to make paragraphs in the wiki markup or your posts will be eye-blisteringly painful to read. You need two newlines, not just one.

It seems we need to correct a few misconceptions here.

First, authorship affords no special privileges on this wiki.

  • You don't get to choose whether we have an article for your work or control what is written on that article.
  • You may offer corrections of fact, as long as it's something evident within the work and not all in your head.
  • You may not add or contest the use of YMMV tropes, Fridge Logic, Awesome Moments, etc. with respect to your work.
  • You may not review or recommend your own work.

Second, your use of spoiler tagging was really excessive, as was the spoiler tagging in the original article. Per our Handling Spoilers policy (and common sense), an article with more blanks than visible text is absolutely useless to the reader. Write with the assumption that someone reading the article only cares about major plot spoilers. If that doesn't work, remove the tags entirely and mark the article with a prominent Here There Be Spoilers warning.

Third, I reviewed the versions of the article from the history file, and I cannot find the "excessive negativity" that you're referring to. From our point of view, it was written fairly reasonably. It was also written quite badly, by our style rules, but that's a different issue.

Lastly, if you see someone challenging your edits to an article, please engage in discussion. Don't just try to force your way; that constitutes an Edit War and is itself a bannable offense.

If you want to regain your wiki privileges, never mind have a say in how our article presents your work, you would do well to learn these rules.

~Nyumnums

The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours. Thus, you have no say as to how your work's page will look. You may contribute, but you don't have ownership of the page. Also, as you're the creator of the work, there are some other reminders:

  • Trivia must be researched independently.
  • For you, any YMMV/Fridge/moments page for your works are off limits, no exceptions.

Edit: Looks like Fighteer got that covered.

Okay I admit that I knew the gist of the rules but not everything, and I just now read the rules and I get the consequences for not following them, and I mean it when I say I will never repeat what I did. I won't even touch the other account I made. So can I pretty please be unsuspended now?

Ah, alright, thank you for that clarification. Yes, I do agree that some of it was written... pretty poorly. I will not engage in edit wars anymore, and I will be sure to look over the spoiler-use to better get a grip on it. Before I edit anything else from here on out, I will be sure to look over as many TV Tropes rules/tips as I can, since I don't want to cause trouble. Thanks again for clearing all this up. I will be sure not to make any edits that are based on opinion; only to fix incorrect/misunderstood facts. I humbly request editing privileges back, though I will try to refrain from editing too much for the next few days until I have a fuller understanding of this site.
