This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

I'm a pretty infrequent editor, and I think a cautious one, so my suspension comes as a surprise.
I'm curious to know what the allegations are against me, but I suppose that's why you have this system in place. You must have your reasons. So, lay it on me.
~Siren Asunder: You are, or were, using a browser plugin that performs text substitutions. These operate on articles you edit, vandalizing them. All such plugins must be removed from your browser or permanently disabled on tvtropes.org.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ah, yeah. That'd be Cloud-to-Butt and Make-Donald-Drumpf again. I had no idea they were interfering but it makes total sense in hindsight. Both are disabled now, so Bob Ross descriptions are safe as are references to trump cards.
Thanks for explaining, and sorry about those butts. Please let me know when I'm released.

You're good to go. Please make sure to whitelist TV Tropes in any future ones you use. Happy troping.
Hello! I was trying to edit my TV Tropes page and found out that my editing privileges had been suspended. Please let me know what exactly caused this suspension to happen. I apologize in advance for anything that I did that caused this suspension to happen. Thank you!
You seem to have a lot of trouble with Example Indentation.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Thank you! I just went back to my TV Tropes page, though... it looks like everything is indented correctly... Where exactly did I go wrong? ❓❓❓❓Please tell me so I can try to fix it in the future. 🙂
Hi, I’m oghond, and I’m a Rushaholic. Sorry if I annoy you unintentionally. 😅You don't own any pages on TV Tropes. If you mean this one, presumably for the fic that you wrote, it was corrected already. The problem is that you don't seem to have a grasp of our formatting rules, spelled out in How to Write an Example. You might also want to look at The Fic May Be Yours But The Trope Page Is Ours.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yes, that is the page I mean. Thank you! In the meantime, I will certainly look at those two articles. I also Crossed Wicked on the It Is Pronounced Tro PAY and Ironic Name pages. Once again, I do apologize for any mistakes I made on this site, and I can assure you this will not happen again. Please let me know when I can edit again. Thank you! 😄😄😄😄
Hi, I’m oghond, and I’m a Rushaholic. Sorry if I annoy you unintentionally. 😅We have an elaboration of Cosby’s actions without so much as a conviction. You have plenty of people who are on his side because of that, so obviously there is controversy here. Why are Bowie or the long and winding parade of (alleged) domestic abusers in Hollywood spared the same fate?
I know this is a sensitive topic, which is why I brought it up in the discussion so it could be included in an appropriate manner.
I just read those two articles. TY!!!
Hi, I’m oghond, and I’m a Rushaholic. Sorry if I annoy you unintentionally. 😅
Good to hear. Just try to keep those guidelines in mind when you edit.
Lifting suspension. Happy troping!
Generally speaking "other people are getting away with something so why am I being punished" doesn't fly.
"Yup. That tasted purple."That’s not what I said. I asked why other people are getting away with it and Cosby is being punished. If anything, you could say I’m asking ‘how is what other people doing different so I can do what they do instead’.
We shouldn't be discussing Cosby's current issues on his article, and I thought we'd stopped that by locking it. It might merit further review if they are still present.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Svarti Kotturinn: On further review of your account, we have determined that it is overwhelmingly likely that you were formerly banned as user An Cat Dubh, who also came into this topic and made an argument that we should be discussing all the horrible things that creators did in real life.
Since the lesson from then does not appear to have sunk in, and you violated our explicit rule against ban evasion, your suspension will not be lifted and you will be denied access to our site permanently.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Hey guys Pretty sure I know why I was suspended. I've been going through a pretty stressful period and I've been on a bit of a Right Great Wrongs and Editing With an Agenda for the past week or so. My intention was to make certain articles less biased (as in my experience this tends to be a pretty objective page and I'd like it to stay that way), but my execution involved deleting big ol' swaths of text and mucking up other peoples posts.
What doesn't kill me better run.Hi, I just got suspended and I think I know why. I have been eliminating examples without giving a proper reason. Sorry, now I know I shouldn't have done that and I promise it won't happen again and I will keep myself under control. If me editing too much has also been a problem, I apologize for that too. I really love editing here, so please let me keep doing it and I promise I will try my best to not be any trouble again.
~Shinykittie: In our evaluation of your edits, it looked less like removing bias and more like inserting your own bias. Broadly speaking, we encourage a positive tone towards media on the wiki, because we are fans of things, not haters, and we want to attract fans to discuss works they like. That's very hard when articles and examples are written negatively.
This is not to say that we want people to engage in unrestrained gushing and ignore a work's flaws; criticism is an important part of analysis. Tropes Are Tools and their use is not inherently good or bad. A certain amount of snark and/or acknowledgement of problems in a work is important to the wiki culture.
We get concerned when someone comes along and tries to rewrite passages to support their personal opinion. If you believe that an article is unnecessarily biased, you are welcome to bring it up in one of our discussion areas, such as Ask The Tropers, to see what people think. That way the community as a whole decides, not just you.
~Sorako: You have the opportunity, now, to explain why you tried to delete examples related to a particular work. Keep in mind that this is your second suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I know and I apologize. I think I just deleted examples which I saw unnecessary. I didn't think it was a big problem since I wasn't planning to delete all the examples anyway, just the ones in pages I thought that work didn't need to be mentioned. I thought keeping the examples to that work's own page was fine enough. But if that's troublesome for you, then that's fine, I won't do it again and I didn't intend to anyway. I will try to justify well when I delete examples from now on.
~Sorako: There is no such thing as an "unnecessary" example. If an example is valid (present in the work), accurate (matches the trope definition), and has sufficient context (the example is fully explained in the description), then it belongs on our wiki (issues with gushing and flame bait aside). If it does not meet these criteria, it may be removed, but it must be from both the trope and work articles and it must be justified with an edit reason.
What your actions look like to us is that you have a bias against the work and are trying to Un-person it. That's not acceptable.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I get it now and I'm saying I didn't plan to do it again and didn't intend to delete the examples again if they got put back. And I said before, I didn't plan to erase all the examples from all pages, just the ones I thought it didn't need to be mentioned. I haven't done anything bad to it's main pages and I promise I won't. So I'm genuinely apologizing for causing trouble. I promise I won't touch anything of that work ever again and my intention was that in the first place since I soon realized it was a mistake.
Okay, but this is your last opportunity to demonstrate that you can edit in accordance with our guidelines. I'll release your suspension.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

We do not discuss controversial aspects of creators' personal lives, because they are not relevant to the subject matter of the wiki and because they incite people to come here to conduct arguments. Using the Discussion page to bring them up looks suspiciously like you know this and are attempting to dodge our policy by using a part of the site that isn't as widely read.
You have been a member of our site more than long enough to understand our policies.
