This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Yeah, Administrivia. The Fic May Be Yours But The Trope Page Is Ours exists for a reason.
"Yup. That tasted purple."~Odon: Why do you keep using bullet points wrong despite no less than 21 warnings about this?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanBecause I haven't been doing it wrong. This is from my latest Person of Interest recap...
- Casual Kink: Reese gives Shaw a funny look when she talks about spanking Tomas for being a bad boy.
and when expanded to multiple examples:
- Casual Kink
- Reese gives Shaw a funny look when she talks about spanking Tomas for being a bad boy.
- What did Root and Shaw get up to in that safehouse? Apparently they didn't even take the hood and zip-ties off.
According to Example Indentation, that's how it's supposed to be done.
That same recap has also the following:
- Call-Back: To Mors Praematura. It seems that Shaw and Root had ten hours to kill in the CIA safe-house when infiltrating the prisoner pick-up.
- Finch comments that Team Machine can add another grand larceny to their list of crimes.
- Pet the Dog: Samaritan might be trying to take over the world, but it is made clear in this episode it still is a program designed to protect people.
- Finch also thinks this is what Samaritan was trying to do with the tablets, even comparing it to Castro building good schools after he came into power so people would love him.
Which is most assuredly not the way to do it.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanWell that first one is my error so I apologise. The second is not.
Has any further consideration been given to my OTC ban?
I'm willing to explain how and why it was a misunderstanding, and that I wasn't meaning at all to link to a White Supremacist site.
If it's any kind of compromise, I could stay away from discussions on feminism and racism and not bring those up, if that would help the mods' decision.
However, above all else, I still think what happened was just a misunderstanding. I accidentally linked to a white supremacy site without knowing, people got understandably upset, but that's where it ends, to me.

"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion."Right, so, it's been a week. Can I find out how long I've been banned for now?
Hi again. Wondering if there's been any update on my case.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987~nomuru2d: Sorry, didn't receive much input, but most of it was not very encouraging.
~Deus Denuo: Will need to ask.
~Jenaiqueserasera: Please step away from all discussion related to sexism, racism and the like - all social justice related phenomena. Your contributions to the "Sargon of Akkad" thread have put you just one more step away from another ban.
~Odon: What was it, then?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanOkay, I understand. Thanks for your time.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987This is my first ban, and I have never been so consistently rude or rule-breaking as anyone else in this discussion by the looks of it. This can, again, be confirmed with a forum post search. I am increasingly confused about why it's taking so long to decide what should be a simple thing (there was confirmation earlier that you'd all discussed my case already), particularly since you're clearly able to roll back a forum-wide ban to an individual forum ban inside of two days and it sounds like that can be done by one mod. If there's a particular reason for the holdup - y'all just don't like me? - fine, but I'd still like to know it for peace of mind.
Honestly, having to deal with this purgatory has convinced me to never again let a conversation get that out of hand. I learned my lesson the moment I found out you guys banned me (and had a pretty good idea some time before, because I checked a certain post at work where I am unable to reply, and it was clear that someone was finally willing to stop the endless pissing contest and get back to critiquing - which was good enough for me), and again, I am clearly capable of being supportive and polite to newbie writers.
Septimus — may I ask how, please? I said nothing offensive or rude. I brought up nothing of sexism or racism. It was only when a few users came in bashing Sargon that I defended him. I'm curious how that could possibly get me closer to a ban. If it's due to my own political beliefs, the fact that I despise misandry and bigotry, then it's extremely worrying to think that's a bannable offense. There are more anti-SJ folk here than just me... You'd need to hand out many unprovoked bans if you are simply wishing to censor ideologies to form a solidified "agenda" for the forums. As long as I don't become personally-insulting or attacking, 'tis not clear to me how that results in a ban. Like, I'm not even trying to be sarcasm-mode or anything here. I'm genuinely curious. Why are non-Progressive beliefs bannable here?

"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion."The Pet the Dog example is from Hailfire25, according to the History.
~Odon: So it is, yeah. The other example is still a problem. And 21 other messages indicate several other pages with problems.
~Jenaiqueserasera: Imma not sugarcoat it; we do ban reactionaries and MRAs frequently because too many of them engage in troublemaking including trolling, argumentum ad nauseam and bigotry. Your behaviour does not fall into these classes yet but it's close enough that it's best for you to stay out of these discussions.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
I can't say I agree with the policy, but I respect it and thank you for your answer. I'll be mindful of this in the future.
"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion."I like to keep my mail page clean and organized, which might explain why I missed all those warnings. But I know that's no excuse. This will probably be my last message on this site since it seems I've been banned permanently. And while I know you probably don't wish to hear it again, all I can say is that I'm terribly sorry. I found this site by accident one day while looking for pictures for Sim Bionic Titan. I only ever started editing on here because I noticed spelling and punctuation errors here and there.
I'll admit being apart of this site (for however brief a time) has been one of the most positive experiences of my life. Well that's all I have to say, thank you for your time.
~firejewel: OK. Can you now remember to index your pages?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanUh, yes, I just thought you'd banned me permanently/forever. In fact, the only reason I got back on today was to end my account. But if that's not necessary I'll leave it alone.
I come here to ask for my suspension from the OTC forum to be revised. As I understand, the reason for the suspension was my post in the sexism thread
(I don't think I was posting anywhere else at the time). That, I believe was my only offense and I there were others involved, so a permanent ban seems too strong. I promise to be more careful and to listen to the mods in the future.
I believe shimaspawn was the one who suspended me too from OTC, not entirely sure.
Given the mod in question's post there, it seems they're exceptionally biased and temperamental. Just a minor concern from a concerned user who was banned in similar pretenses, and whom shimaspawn was also quite rude and indirect to when I asked of my own suspension.
Were I a higher-up, I'd definitely put shimaspawn under some observation as to their conduct. Again, not trying to be offensive or rude, but users have a right to be concerned about the moderators enforcing rules over them.
I still wish to argue my own OTC ban as a misunderstanding, but it's perhaps a result of shimaspawn's bias as well.

"By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea, we wept, when we remembered Zion."
Could you please not piggyback on me to complain about the moderation? My suspension have nothing to do with you. You weren't even in that particular thread at the time. I would rather not bee associated with your nonsense.

Just for the record, Shimaspawn has not been the one to give you any of your suspensions. Not that it matters, really, but since you seemed curious I thought I'd tell you.
Just here to ask what my ban was for? I didn't know I didn't anything wrong? :/

Well, officer, my tail light was out. Okay, so... I'm the author of EHUD, and the original intent was to publish the book on my blog before submitting it to agents for traditional publishing. I started the page here to generate some web presence (a lot of the things I read are found via TV Tropes, so I figured the same might hold true for others). When I started researching how to get a traditional publication deal, I found out that works previously published in an online form or with too much of a web presence might be disqualified from being agented. So, in a panic, I tried to delete as much EHUD web content as possible. And that's why I blanked that page...
Since then, I've made a more thorough reading of the TV Tropes rules, and realized what a serious no-no I perpetrated (hence my saying I had a pretty good idea why I was banned), and will not be blanking pages ever again (should my ban be repealed).
