This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules
apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't spam the thread about your appeal, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

@Deadbeatloser 22 I thought I was just stating a fact.

~gao: You were asked to post edits that you'd like to make in this forum topic
to be proofread. As yet, you have not done this.
~triton: There are lots of facts in the world. That doesn't make them all pertinent to a popular culture wiki. Considering that those were your only edits, do you have anything else that you'd like to contribute here?
edited 25th Mar '15 8:49:54 AM by Fighteer
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@Fighteer Yes, I do but I was blocked before I could contribute more. I had just barely joined the site when I was blocked.
Because coming onto this site and having your first edits be tracts about what you masturbate to is not an auspicious start and does little to convince us that you will be a constructive editor.
"Yup. That tasted purple."@Deadbeatloser22 Like I said I apologize for that, and I will try to avoid any pitfalls like that in the future.

We can give it a shot. You know what will happen if we have to ban you again over this.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It's me, Ego-Man25. Now, I'm new here, and I just recently got a suspension. At first, I was hurt, but then i was thinking, I made alot of edits, and, even though I'm usually careful about this kind of stuff, I believe that I may have made a lot of mistakes, which we all do, to be honest. But by the time I realized each mistake via message, it was already fixed for me, which is not what most respectable Tropers would strive for. Must have kept up to the point where I got this message. You guys probably know what I sent this post for, right? Yeah, I was wondering if I was allowed to go back to editing soon. If not, then I understand, but if so, then I will not disappoint. I will slow down and look at what I do. I won't do such extensive editing that no one will be able will be able to tell what a page was like before, unless the page needs extensive editing, and even then, I will consult editors and more experienced tropers before I do said editing. So, can I get back in?
Self-professed Wild Card who thinks cynicism isn't so bad.~Ego-Man25: You noted yourself that you have received messages about various editing issues. Obviously, the tropers sending you those notices fixed the problem; This Is A Wiki, after all. Our concern is that you keep making those mistakes after being notified.
The specific rules are Conversation in the Main Page, Example Indentation in Trope Lists, and Zero Context Examples. To keep it as brief as possible:
- Our articles are not forums. Do not "respond" to examples. If something is incorrect or needs clarification, fix it. If you want to talk about it, use the Discussion page. Related, Tropes Are Tools and do not require justification; Justified Trope is an In-Universe phenomenon.
- All items in a list should be indented at the same level. This means that you should not tack on a second-level bullet beneath a first-level, or a third beneath a second. If a trope has only one example, and you want to add a second, move the first to a second level bullet and then add yours beneath.
- All trope examples must clearly explain how the trope is used: not merely that it is used, or who uses it, or when it happens, but describing the use in sufficient detail that someone unfamiliar with the work can understand it. There is no trope so obvious that its examples do not require context. Hyperbolic Word Cruft ("and how!", "in spades", "is an example of this trope") does not make up for context.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Fighteer, I understand now. When I add a trope example, I have to explain why it is an example, not just state the trope. I now also know not to go conversational when placing entrees second or third asterisks(*). And finally, like I stated prior, if I'm going to add trope examples, I will spell correctly AND indent properly. As I am Ego-Man25, you have my word.

Self-professed Wild Card who thinks cynicism isn't so bad.As I am Fighteer, I accept your apology. Why are we talking like we're in a bad fantasy novel? Anyway, I'll lift your suspension so you can get back to editing.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"OH, THANK YOU!
I will not let you down.
Gotcha. I remember what happened now. I did get PM'd about those. I just found out how to look at past messages and I found them.
Yeah, you were right. I was doing it wrong, and I'm not proud of it. Embarrassed, even. I told myself I'd never do that again, and didn't realize at the time that I'd been suspended. I apologize. It won't happen again.

It appears I got edit banned for neglecting to index Tomoe Gozen Saga when I created it. I really don't like using the forum, but can I get it lifted so I can correct this?
@ shima and other mods, hello
Not to be annoying, but simply not understanding how things are done seems extremely vague. Is there anything that can be pointed to that I have not already apologized for or something specific that I can correct. Barring that, a time estimate on the 'cooldown.'
For whatever reason, and I could be wrong, but the ban feels like its not 100 percent objective. Which shouldn't be the case, I should be able to recognize my missteps since I've been on the site for a while. I'm not even the only troper that has questioned this suspension.
~Penguin3470: Are you clear on our rules regarding complaining?
~Vidszhite: Lifting the suspension.
~Laevatein: Why did you keep making unindexed pages despite messaging?
~acrobox: We don't do "time estimates". All bans last as long as it takes for the ban-nee to stop with whatever problem they were banned for. Anyhow, you seem to have problems with grasping why your behaviours in YKTTW (=creating a badly described trope with a poor name and example section and getting snippy at other tropers in the comment thread) and TRS (=a pointless multipage debate; sometimes, dropping an issue is the right thing to do) are an issue.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanFirstly, Tomoe Gozen Saga is only the second page I have made in recent times, so I feel to say I "keep doing it" is an exaggeration. As for why it wasn't indexed, it was by accident (more specifically, I assumed that if I created the link to the work in Fantasy Literature and then the page, it would be indexed). I did see a note on the page that there was no index, but I had to go out and do other things, and planned on correcting things when I got home.
~Laevatein: The notifiers you were sent about indexing contain links to How Indexing Works, which states that to index an article, you have to save the index page after the article is created. When in doubt, you may use this topic
for help, or ask in Ask The Tropers.
A suspension is not a punishment unless the user makes it one; it's to stop problematic behaviors so they can be corrected.
~Lunacorva: The other user involved in your dustup was reprimanded as well. It takes two to make an Edit War. You should know this. The question isn't whether deletions from YMMV are merited, it's whether you're going to play wiki vigilante or report the issue as you are supposed to.
You've been given lots of chances to play nicely with the other kids and failed each one of them. There doesn't seem to be any value in offering you more.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Okay yeah.
I talked to shima about the TRS debate in the PM I mentioned earlier.
While I tried to be cordial in the YKTTW, I do acknowledge that I got snippy at the repeated off topic arguments and the effort to kill it after it had reached three hats. I will be better about turning the other cheek.
Thanks Septimus for clarifying! I will wait patiently.
If you want me to report every problem I see, I can and I will. I'm just used to only coming to the authorities when it becomes a SERIOUS problem. As my teacher once said:
So I assumed that Tv Tropes worked the same way. If it's different I can adapt.

I'm not sure you understand. This is your third suspension, which means we've already been more lenient with you than we are with most people who come through this thread.
"Yup. That tasted purple."The first time was for an honest mistake, I didn't realise someone was intentionally deleting the post I was making, I thought I'd kept forgetting to save my edit.
The second, the problem was not me edit warring, the problem was my attitude when I restored a deleted post which was unnecessarily aggressive.
And now, it's been a case of me thinking that the Admin expects us to fix our problems ourselves instead of reporting every grievance.
These have been unrelated problems, separated by months and months of me not being a problem at all. This is not a case of me constantly edit warring with someone and I honestly think you're jumping the gun here.
This most recent incident wasn't even an edit war. It was just me restoring a deleted post. Which, since it was deleted for an illegal reason, I had every right to do. There was no problems at all after that, and Rakshi even apologised and offered to talk about it openly on the discussion thread. Something I happily agreed to, except, suddenly I'm banned for edit warring. I'm sorry, but how exactly is that fair? Why am I being treated like a bad guy when I was doing the right thing?
Okay, I'll keep that in mind in the future.
[BTW, just in case you want to contact me again, I probably won't be available until late tomorrow (Australian Eastern Time)]

Hello, I got suspended quite a while ago and I would like to edit again; I have already inquired about returning my editing privileges and the last response I got was a suggestion to write my planned edits in a sandbox to have them reviewed (it never came to this). So, I would like to ask: Could I get my editing privileges restored? I assure you I've been studying grammar in meanwhile and I will check my edits before publishing them. And if my request is rejected, would you please explain again where and how exactly I should prove my writing's got better? I am looking forward to your answer
